The Mini developed by John Cooper were very successful in Italy but for Italians the high price due to importation prevented their purchase. So Innocenti, having already had agreements with the English company for the production in Italy of another Austin model, obtained the license to produce the Mini in Italy and so began construction in September 1965 at the Lambrate factories.
I find this curious. No Mini after 1967 is allowed to be registered in CA. per the DMV. I can only assume the DMV was lied to and told them it was a '67 or older. I know, it has been done a lot, I used to own a Mini.
Innocenti were owned by Brithish Leyland cars but assembled in Italy they had ALTISSIMO rear lights and looms and for some reason my BL cars 78 mini has these lights so I guess it was to do with the 77-78 strikes and a shortage of Lucas lights or Looms ?
