Harry is def a villain, if it weren’t for him pushing Dexter’s mom to keep going when she was super scared resulting in her being sawed up in front of Dexter and Brian, then manipulating Dexter into killing people “the right way” & how to get away with it instead of giving him good therapy / counseling, cheating on his wife, abandoning Brian possibly because he was “too fucked up”? Treating Debra different & not as good or close to her… rewatching this series recently i realize how bad of a “parent”, “father”, husband Harry actually was. He demonized Dexter so much and put this code in his head. I do think Dexter is autistic and he was just manipulated easily. In the show his inner voice he sounds like he’s so confident but also delusional, he’s been tricked and manipulated so easily like by Lila, Miguel etc. I think he’s easily influenced and fooled and he only adopted this identity because his father crafted it and gave it to him. Now he lives in a delusional state of how important it is to live in “Harry’s code”, it’s actually so sad. His innocence or chances of a healthier normal life was robbed from him. Yes he had worrying tendencies as a kid and teen but Harry should’ve at least tried putting him through better counseling and coping rather than going straight to demonizing and teaching him it’s ok to kill if they’re bad. Harry probably one of the biggest villains in the show, he created what Dexter now is instead of trying to have hope in him or help him in better ways. In the show Dexter does have emotion sometimes like when he clearly has feelings and care for Rita but I feel he’s just confused because of autism and also the trauma he went through + his foster father always putting in his head he is not human. It’s like as an adult when he has a normal relationship for the first time he’s barely discovering and allowing himself to feel something rather than nothing. His social awkwardness is definitely more reminiscent of autism rather than just pure psychopathy as someone who has been around a psychopath they can be really good at socializing to manipulate and he’s not that good at it, people notice something off still
Harry is not a villain, he was a human character doing the best he could to give dexter as normal a life as possible. Harry adopted dexter in 1973/1974... they didnt have the knowledge or resources that we have today and judging harry by todays standards is just ridiculous. Dexter is a "necessary evil" power fantasy trope, its a good show but does suffer from dated and bad/inconsistent writing. Its a tough story, that cant be too well written as that would glorify serial killers more than it already does. Harry was a flawed character but that doesnt make him a villain or evil... painting him as such shows clear ignorance of the main thesis of the show, that life isnt a binary black and white, good vs evil. Doakes vs dexter is a clear indication of that, as they are very similar in many aspects and hardly different in others. Harry wasnt a bad father, without him, dexter ends up in an insane asylum at a young age after bouncing around as an orphan, his brothers' character arc shows what dexter would be if not for harry and the code. A psychopath who destroys countless lives while preying on innocent people. Harry wasnt as present for debra but thats typical really, and at the end of the day he raised her to be decently well adjusted and she had a successful career with good morals. The show implies that deb was born with good morals when thats just not the case, dexter himself can be an unreliable narrator at times due to his mental condition, he doesnt understand that morality isnt actually natural for anyone and everyone who isnt a psychopath. Harry had to have taught deb and been present enough for her to even come close to having her head on straight. Youre flat out wrong about dexters social life, literally nobody except doakes could see who dexter really was. What you see as dexter being autistic and socially inept, is the actor doing his best to showcase a detached emotionless character. Youre misinterpreting the show completely by saying dexter is autistic and not a psychopath. Harry was a jaded cop, he didnt believe in reform very much because he literally didnt see it. He didnt think dexter could ever have a normal life and he has a lifetime of evidence to back that up. The ONLY character in the entire series that ever turns their life around is brother sam, and nobody believes him except for dexter and some of the other excons that worked with him. A show and character like Dexter deserved a sole Showrunner with a clear vision for the character and his storyline, like how shows like Mad Men, BrBa& BCS, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos etc had. By my count the show including 'New Blood' changed showrunners 4 times which is blatantly obvious as the show goes on, Season 8 feels like an entirely different show when compared to Season 1. With the storyline of Season 2 being Dexter almost getting exposed never sat well with me even though I love that season.
Yeah couldnt agree more but sadly there are many things involved like the politics and behind the scenes. They didnt know how many seasons they were gonna do and thats why they did the season 2 storyline so early. Would have been way cooler to have it as one of the later seasons.
Exactly. This was my biggest complaint with season 6. For some reason season 5 still felt like a continuation of the OG series to me, although it was the biggest difference for the characters with Rita dying and the kids moving to Orlando. So S5 should’ve felt the most different, but it didn’t. To me S6 immediately felt like a cheap Netflix spoof of the real Dexter series but somehow they had gotten the actors to agree to play funny versions of themselves. It just felt so off. And honestly S6-8 just all blend together to me. New Blood at least felt better done than the last 3 of the original series. But it was also missing a certain charm that Dexter has when it’s set in Miami. I honestly feel that the show is inexorably linked to Miami because it took place there and only there over the whole course of events. Having Dexter in New York just felt like a parallel world. I would happily pay $20 a month for years on end if they would make more “Dexter, set in Miami, with Deb, and the mid-2000s aesthetic and cheesy cop show music”.
The new blood ending did feel rushed, however there is a theory that Dexter survives the gunshot, you can see in the ending the shot is WAY lower and didn't actually pierce his heart. With that being said, cold slows bleeding. One of the producers during an interview was asked if he actually died. His response was "I can't say much but what I can say is, it's cold out there." foreshadowing him being alive. They're filming a new show called Dexter, one sin. Also confirmed second season of dexter new blood set to release in janurary 2025. So yes dexter is very much still alive.
You've done a great job. It was very nice to watch, thank you. So, about Lundy: After watching the show again, given what he knew about Dexter, everything fell into place. He always says something that shows what he knew. I think Lundy had an agreement with Dexter that he was doing the right thing.
Idk if Lundy or Matthews knew for sure but there’s no way Quinn didn’t, I wasn’t sure after the whole liddy thing, but when Quinn caught him blatantly m99ing zach and played it off as “oh see ur playing detective, keep an eye on him for me” I was 100% sure😭
So, number 144 was our best estimate for years, but as an admin of Dexter Wiki I have an update: we missed five named victims in Season 2, so it's 149.
Dexter is such a good show. I love the concept of Dexter and his way he perceives his crimes. I also love the fact it’s not a gritty show, it shows terrible things but is surprisingly light hearted and often times humorous, especially Deb and Masuka
This is the plot for a Dexter sequel that I think I not only could work but will give a thrilling and exciting follow up to his saga. Dexter didn't die after Harrison shot him so he is taken to prision while expecting his trial. But one of those days some MIB come over to visit him him and offer him a job as a hired hitman for the some 3-letter gvt. agency; say, Dexter Bourne but one that actually loves his job. Dexter takes the offer and he is given a new identity, they switch his FPs with those of a deceased man, and he gets a new life story and some minor face changes. The news will say that he commited suicide in his cell and so all his cases will be dropped, That plot line has already been proposed, but here is what I propose: While doing his job, killing the assigned victims, provided that somehow they fit Harry's code, Dexter has to deal with a new and mortal danger. Batista, Quinn and maybe Elway also. Batista never exactly bought the 'Jeffrey Epsteining" of Dexter so he kept thinking in him while hating him for being the cause of the death of both Maria & Debra, and Doakes. And now as a retired cop he has lots of time to watch and analize the news. So he starts putting things together, which will be difficult of course given that Dexter's victims disappear, the reason why the gvt. loves him as a hitman. So his investigations will probably focus on people that have been reported missing. As the plot advances Batista comes gradually to the conclusion that Dexter is still alive and that he keeps killing people, but he must be doing it now for some powerful people. No matter, he still wants to get him for all the pain he caused, so when he thinks he had enough evidence ge is right, he contacts Quinn, who is now some FBI agent and they both start working as a team hunting down their former pal. Other possibilities is that both have their own PI office, or even that they work for or with Elway, who'll want to get Dexter also not only because of Debra but also because of all the money he lost with Hanna. In any case the 3 men will work now as a team hunting down a Dexter still at large. They know he is wll connected now and for that reason they can't arrest him, they have to simply eliminate him. This would give a set up similar to that of The Fugitive of the 60s, where doctor Kimble had to hunt for the killer of his wife while staying away for the cops hunting him. Dexter will have to go on with his gvt. job while staying out of reach for the trio. He may have informed his handlers of "the problem" but they have probably answered him "You deal with it yourself, it is your problem and you know HOW to deal this kind of problem". That I thinks gives for a thrilling, exciting new series. The only thing missing would be a love interest...or maybe not.
I think there are a few Dexter spin-offs planned, one of which is apparently still gonna be the Harrison series, probably New Blood S2. Resurrection will apparently pick up exactly where New Blood ended, the explanation so far being that "snow is really cold", so I imagine we'll finally get that Dexter/Batista reunion they robbed us of already. But now that he's outed as the BHB, I'm not sure the show can ever return to the same format unless Dexter escapes custody and starts a new life again somewhere else. There's also the prequel series which Michael C Hall will actually be in, playing the inner voice of young Dexter. And apparently there is also another show (maybe even 2) they're working on that nobody's said anything about yet other than it exists. I'm pretty up for more Dexter stuff, it's one of my few comfort shows that I find really relaxing to rewatch over and over.
i want to see Dexter on the run being forced to make those impossible decisions again imagine that TAKEN movie where liam neeson's character gets framed for something and he's running through the city dodging cops and beating the piss out of people for a chance to live a little longer
Dexter is only autistic if the writers want him to be, but they never said that he's autistic. He's on the spectrum of sociopathy or psychopathy. Psychopaths don't feel the same emotions that neurotypical people feel. So he may seem autistic but he just doesn't really understand how to connect with people emotionally.
@@anon9739he isnt autistic though... he can pick up on and read social cues. If youve ever had to live with or deal with an autistic person youd know that dexter absolutely isnt. Just because he is intelligent and awkward does not mean he is autistic. He is a psychopath, but michael c hall isnt, so its easy to misinterpret his detached emotionless acting as him being autistic and not a real psychopath... again, assuming youve never dealt with autistic people. My cousin is a high functioning autistic person, he can drive and work but he cant hold a conversation at all, its like pulling teeth talking to him as he just has no interest in communicating, would rather stare at a screen. Not to mention the autistic struggle to control emotional outbursts and meltdowns due to overstimulation.
@@g00gleisgayerthanaids56 I do agree that dexter most likely is not autistic whatsoever, but he mulitple times has full on trantrums or shuts down during the course of the show from everything that is going on around him at that moment.
'pedrinho matador' was killed a few months after being released from jail, he has some really crazy and disturbing stories, he said he had a pact with the devil, his story might give you some content
wouldnt the miami crime statistic part be different as most of dexters kills cant be counted as reported murders since a majority of his victims went unfound/missing?
"Acktually, the substance in syringes was always ketamine" the writers of New Blood, probably. Edit: I just remembered there were alleged plans to give Hannah her own spinoff. Funny how it didn't work out then, so they tried it again with Harrison.
Pedro matador has actually nothing to do with Dexter, he killed a lot of innocents actually, he killed people just because they didn't handshake firmly and killed his cousin
One thing i didn't like about the some of the season endings were how fast the storylines fizzled out in 1 or two episodes, as the series went on it felt more and more rushed

He's not autistic he's a psychopath. He legitimately doesn't feel emotions besides maybe hatred and rage but I don't even think they actually feel that. He may come off as autistic because they seem to share some of the same characteristics but he's definitely not lol
He felt emotions many times in the show, he just didnt think he had emotions because he was raised by a man who didn't know what psychopathy actually was. Also I think he is autistic or on the spectrum atleast. This is my take on the show and as nothing is confirmed its just how I see it:)
@@TheMonkeyMan42 I'm just not sure he truly "felt" the emotions. The one time you could say he maybe truly felt something besides anger was when he cried as the skinner was gonna kill him and he wasn't gonna get to see his son but that one just made no sense to me. He didn't cry for Rita, just killed a man and screamed. The closest he came to crying besides the skinner situation was when he killed Brian but he still didn't actually cry. You could tell throughout the entire show even as a kid he knew what emotions he was supposed to feel but I believe he just knows he's supposed to feel them.

Eh, i never read the books but honestly going that route is much better than glorifying psychopathic serial killers.
Dexter got 150 bodies god damn
@@Slippyunreal At least. Pretty sure Original Sin will increase the number to 155+.
Dexter is such a good show. I love the concept of Dexter and his way he perceives his crimes. I also love the fact it’s not a gritty show, it shows terrible things but is surprisingly light hearted and often times humorous, especially Deb and Masuka
Masuka best character frfr!
Finished the show and the spin off so good
There’s has been murders in Miami recently where bodies are being dumped into the waters around the Arena.
Never knew it had terrible reviews I loved watching Dexter
Dexter is a master pice 🔥
Dexter is back...again! Hopefully the third time is the charm.
Yeah they really cant mess it up this time (I hope)
The themes in Dexter are great
Bro knows what soundtrack to choose, silent hill 2 definitely has the best of them
This is the plot for a Dexter sequel that I think I not only could work but will give a thrilling and exciting follow up to his saga.
The news will say that he commited suicide in his cell and so all his cases will be dropped,
That plot line has already been proposed, but here is what I propose: While doing his job, killing the assigned victims, provided that somehow they fit Harry's code, Dexter has to deal with a new and mortal danger.
Yeah its more of my own theory but I also thought it would be a funny way to start the video:)
i feel he was never a true psychopath though, and that becomes more apparent as the show goes on. so him being autistic would make sense.
He's more schizoid than anti social or autistic
Still can’t believe monkeyman42 was the bay harbor butcher
Dexter would be in Original Sin but just as inner voice of younger Dexter
Dexter and Vic Mackey should have a face off in season 2 of resurrection.
The Shield is such a masterpiece, shame that there aren’t more people talking about it nowadays.
It’s an all-timer show without a shadow of a doubt.
I’ve been waiting for this
'pedrinho matador' was killed a few months after being released from jail, he has some really crazy and disturbing stories, he said he had a pact with the devil, his story might give you some content
wouldnt the miami crime statistic part be different as most of dexters kills cant be counted as reported murders since a majority of his victims went unfound/missing?
Well its a different universe totally, I just included it to show how much Dexter actually kills:)
There was a dutch killer who took inspiration from the show on how to hide the body only he dumped it in a lake. But it was found
"Acktually, the substance in syringes was always ketamine" the writers of New Blood, probably.
Edit: I just remembered there were alleged plans to give Hannah her own spinoff. Funny how it didn't work out then, so they tried it again with Harrison.
The worst part is ketamine doesn’t even knock you out like that😭
nice video, i honestly thought it was gonna be trash but i was so invested after a minute already✌
Hahaah yeah…I guess:)
I can’t be the only one that didn’t mind dexters send off at the end of new blood
Pedro matador has actually nothing to do with Dexter, he killed a lot of innocents actually, he killed people just because they didn't handshake firmly and killed his cousin
Amazing video. And really creative
Thanks, what a nice comment:)
Great video keep up the good work 🙏
I can't believe the iceberg was the bay harbor butcher
i cant believe themonkeyman42 was the bay harbor butcher
11:45 literally his real face and reaction according to Miguel's kill
One thing i didn't like about the some of the season endings were how fast the storylines fizzled out in 1 or two episodes, as the series went on it felt more and more rushed
This vid sounds a lot like one I watched last night
Why did I think that was matt patt in the thumbnail for a moment
IN dexter original sin, Michael C hall will be doing the voice in dexter's head.
Yes I missed that somehow, gonna be sick!!
I cant believe, i cant believe, i cant believe GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD
Very interesting video man, but try to turn down the volume a bit, it's a bit difficult to understand you with the bg music so loud
Yeah thanks ill think of that, its hard getting the right volume and I just love this soundtrack hahaha:)
Michael is also involved in the prequel, he does the voice overs
Fantastic video! Do you know about infinity or also known as f8? The Dexter alternate reality game (arg) started at SDCC in 2010?
Thanks! Nah I havent seen that much seems very intressting actually. Was it like kinda like mafia?
@@TheMonkeyMan42 no not to my knowledge it was more extensive than that I believe. the youtuber night mind has 2 pretty in depth videos they are pretty lengthy but I would be happy to link them if you wanna dig in and research it a bit more.
@@TheMonkeyMan42 from what I understand it was much more than that. Websites, codes, secret videos the whole 9 yards the creator nightmind has 2 pretty in depth videos on it but be warned they are lengthy I can link them if you would like.
Good video❤
Dexter is also among the most famous knife companies in the united states
Great video. Looking forward to being disappointed by Dexter again 😂
Yeah cant wait lmao :D
I just finished watching the series, any recommendations what to watch next ?
”You” is like a Dexter copy, not as good though. Otherwise antihero shows like breaking bad and peaky blinders are good:)
all i wanted was for dexter to go to prison (and maybe escape) as that would be so interesting, ive always hoped this would happen and i thought it was when watching new blood. absolutely disappointing ending
Yeah I agree, seeing the reactions of his old friends would be awesome!:)
you sure thats not matpat in the thumbnail man?
Looks like it but no:)
I haven't seen any other comments on it, and I'm curious; why the picture of Bryan Kohberger in tier 3, at 6:00, next to BTK?
He's not autistic he's a psychopath. He legitimately doesn't feel emotions besides maybe hatred and rage but I don't even think they actually feel that. He may come off as autistic because they seem to share some of the same characteristics but he's definitely not lol
He felt emotions many times in the show, he just didnt think he had emotions because he was raised by a man who didn't know what psychopathy actually was. Also I think he is autistic or on the spectrum atleast. This is my take on the show and as nothing is confirmed its just how I see it:)
he is a sociopath not a pshycopath
@@TheMonkeyMan42 I'm just not sure he truly "felt" the emotions. The one time you could say he maybe truly felt something besides anger was when he cried as the skinner was gonna kill him and he wasn't gonna get to see his son but that one just made no sense to me. He didn't cry for Rita, just killed a man and screamed. The closest he came to crying besides the skinner situation was when he killed Brian but he still didn't actually cry. You could tell throughout the entire show even as a kid he knew what emotions he was supposed to feel but I believe he just knows he's supposed to feel them.
@@TheMonkeyMan42Agreed. Btw autistic and on the spectrum are the same thing. Autistic refers to someone on the autism spectrum, there's no more or less autistic. Loved your take and the video :)!
@@TheMonkeyMan42i guess youre ignoring the fact that harry was working with dr vogel a clinical psychologist who definitely understood psychopathy...
Why is Null moon playing in the back?
I never thought that Dexter was acoustic
I think it's likely that he is.
The "real life Dexter" became famous in Brazil after his time in jail. He would be in a podcast every other week... his nickname was "Little Pedro, k1ll3r". He was brutally k1lled (surprise, surprise...) last year.
Yeah I read about that. A serial killer with 100+ murders must have some good stories to tell.
I see you Loane 👁️👄👁️
Sorry but whats this refrencing to, I dont get it :(
I'm contemplating about it,should I start watching?
Yeah, give the first episode a try. It gives you a good look into the show, if you will like it or not:)
Harry is not a villain
Debatable.
@@TheMonkeyMan42 Harry was undoubtedly fond of Dexter. Yes, the code is morally ambiguous, but Harry really wanted to protect Dexter. And don't act like Harry's the one who created the code
@@pate8493I think Vogel is the real villain
Harry wasn't irredeemable and had decent morals but he destroyed the Moser family.
@@OrthodoxHCno, the ones who cut up laura moser with a chainsaw destroyed the moser family. Harry may have put them in harms way, but he didnt do the deed nor did he expect that level of brutality. If he had the slightest idea that what happened was going to happen, he wouldnt have gone through with it.
Not to mention the fact that if Laura hadnt been a grimy crackhead criminal she never wouldve had the opportunity to be a criminal informant and get massacred at all, if you want to play that game.
fire
You should do a season by season review
Yeah maybe:)
nice video 👍👍👍
Breaking Bad x Dexter cross over for their final season?
Writers of Dexter couldn't finish in time so both shows opted for a different endings as they both were meant to cross over and Dexter was supposed to meet Walter in the snowy woods
Lmao really, is this true? Didnt find anything on this
@@TheMonkeyMan42 yes saw it on tiktok and when I looked I up around 2013 I saw TH-cam videos of people saying like they technically are in the same world and even we’re gonna at one point have a spin off connecting them ill try and find it
@@fatheredflea5498 Could be tho, there are many shows were people have theories of them being in the breaking bad universe. One that comes to mind is "The Walking Dead" because they used the same car...
I love DEXTERRR
The books suck. After the first book, it became clear JL had no fucking clue how to write the character. He leaned too far into the paranormal aspect for me and I abandoned the series faster than he did his own plot threads.
Yeah the first 2 books are solid but gets weird after that:(
Eh, i never read the books but honestly going that route is much better than glorifying psychopathic serial killers. The dark urge being an intangible entity that infects the deeply traumatized doesnt sound bad to me, but i could see how a fumbled execution could hurt the story. Especially if you go into the books after watching the show.
@g00gleisgayerthanaids56 Sounds ass, we dont need goofy ghost or demons in our real life crime drama
the two people who wanted to recreate dexter definiedly fit decters code sunce both of them tried to kill innocent
W vid🔥🔥🔥
W comment!
Dawg. If any of you haven’t read the extra quinn theory in the description. Thats nuckin futs
Pedrinho matador was murdered a few months ago.
also m99 known as etorphine it is for big animals and on human just 0,01ml could be lethal to humans so him doing it is actually impossible
7:43 will dexter eat an apple bro? 💀
“Socio” is a common Spanish phrase it’s just like my friend or partner he wasn’t secretly calling him a sociopath that’s dumb
He also doesn’t call anyone else socio
slightly confused, did you just pick and choose what to cover from the iceberg? video was pretty good overall id say.
Yeah thanks. Its my own iceberg and I covered all the topics but just changed the order a bit in the beginning.
In the Netflix Show( You ) in the season 2 Love mention to Joe he s bassicly like Dexter
is the dexter game safe to download off that website?
Yeah I tried it myself:)
@@TheMonkeyMan42 dexter game? do tell!
@@tropic1979its pretty mid honestly. came out in 2011 but because its an ios game it feels more like 2007. it follows the events of the first episode of season 1. i also played the second dexter game way back but it was completely broken and lacked content. the only somewhat good one was the hidden object game but it only lasted 1-2 years before they shut the servers down.
Were are the links to dexter the game 2 and dexter slice?😢
Sorry but im sure its easy to find them online:)
W Vid ❤❤❤
Kinda looks like Mat pat on the thumbnail 😅
Deborah’s character was written so poorly. In the book she is fantastic whereas in the series she’s not the same
Can you please elaborate?
Jim Lindsay and Jeff Lindsay
waiter! waiter! more dexter content!!
You hear the swedish more than the english when he speaks
Yeah true but your norwegian accent is worse u scum!! jkjk
Mfs be like ”Howd you know im from Sveedenn” ☠️☠️🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
why didnt u include camilla figg
What about dear Camilla?
Dexter is acoustic? As in Guitarist 😂
Ngl I mainly like the main show cuz of the salsa music😂
The entire soundtrack is banging:)
James and Lundy never knew about Dexter though it’s just a stupid theory and Dexter isn’t autistic
What bothers me is why doesn't Miguel ask him if he was the bay harbor butcher? What are the odds that he thought it was Doakes yet never questioned dexter on if it was him. As some super high end lawyer.
James surely knew? Unless u mean Quinn. Well Im not sure I believe it either but there are definitely signs to support it.
@@TheMonkeyMan42 when I said James I was referring to captain Matthew you should know this
They aren’t any other signs supporting the fact Lundy knew his secret except for saying “there’s only one justification of killing to save a innocent life” Lundy was created to keep Dexter under pressure and high alert Quinn definitely didn’t even know Dexter was a killer in season 5 so why would he hire an ex cop to dig up some dirt on Dexter just to help Dexter cover up the fact he killed someone who knew he was a serial killer that makes no sense Quinn didn’t even know at the end of the series that he’s serial killer he just came to the realisation Dexter isn’t some ordinary guy but still had his back when he killed Saxon
