I just did it but used an orange instead because I did not have any lemon. It worked like a dream. I can't believe how easy it was and for years I've been scrubbing!! Thank you so much Melissa.
I had a microwave full of dried on mess; I hadn't cleaned it in months, probably 2-3 (gross, I know). I used this method, but left the bowl in the microwave for 30 minutes without opening the door. Did it a second time and let it sit another 10. I was able to wipe away everything with a sponge. I was totally skeptical, but thought I'd give it a shot. It's crazy how good this works. Thank you, Melissa!
Why don't you give this method a try on your nasty ass microwave and see for yourself? I used a similar method on MY nasty ass microwave just using vinegar and water and I cleaned up real easy.
I have always used a mixture of water/white distilled vinegar/baking soda which also gets some of the mixture onto the walls and the floor of the microwave so when you wipe it all out you really get everything out. I just clean the dish like any dish and let it air dry in the dish rack with all of the other newly clean dishes.
You just saved my life! It also works with a dishwashing detergent and water mixture. It took me like 10 minutes including the time waiting for the microwave heating the bowl!! Thank youuuu!!
I used vinegar in lieu of lemon, and on a microwave that hadn't been cleaned in about a year, and it worked perfectly! Make sure you use a damp cloth to do the wiping, and rinse the cloth out if you notice that it's just leaving grime behind.
I love your videos! My favorite way to clean my microwave (this is especially good if you don't have lemons on hand) is just soak a rag, squeeze out the excess water and microwave just the rag itself for a minute or two. Let it sit for a min and you can just use the same rag to wipe your microwave.
Be careful. This isn't good for your microwave. They are supposed to only be turned on if there is at least a minimum amount of liquid in them. I think it is a cup or so. (Check the manual or Google it to know for sure)
Awesome!! I was actually going to clean my microwave and was looking to put TH-cam on for background noise and then I saw this video pop up on my subscriptions... Talk about meant to be!!! Worked like a charm
This really worked. I just tried it and my microwave was dirtier than yours. SS heat up salsa without covering it and I didn’t feel like cleaning it so its been sitting like that for a while. I did spray it down and wipe with a household cleaner first. That wasn’t working. Then I tried your method. It made it so much easier to clean. Thank you! I will be looking for more tips like this. I have a household of 6 and one more on the way.
I so didn't know this at all Melissa, I always hated the thought of using chemicals in the microwave that may not of all wiped clean and all that fumes and toxins what not gets in the food, this is so great. It's best to not let the microwave get too crusty wipe up spills when they happens
I've just done this and it's amazing. It got all the old stuck on grease, I just wiped it all off with a microcloth, very little elbow grease required. I wiped everything down whilst still hot. With the leftover hot lemon juice, I wiped down the fridge shelves and all the cupboard handles. Thank you for the video.
Yes!! Clean microwave! Caked on food from hubby not covering . Worked like a charm:) I put removable plate in dishwasher . Thx so much!!! I used vinegar, worked well:)
That was actually really helpful. I'm constantly running around after my 10 month old so my poor microwave has been neglected. It was super easy to do only took a few mins and my microwave was seriously dirty!
I just cleaned my microwave which hadn't been cleaned since more than a year and it turned out to be amazing. I still have some orangish spots which didn't go away even after using a multipurpose cleaner 😢 and wiping multiple times. Also, a big thanks to you. I have been following your videos on how to clean kitchen, bathtub, microwave etc. since I started living on my own as a college student and your videos have been so helpful. Tomorrow is bathtub cleaning day for me!
Thank you for this video. The method worked a treat. Dipping a micro-fibre cloth into the solution did help with shifting the stubborn bits, but just a reminder to be careful as understandably the solution will be very hot.
Our microwave is old, from my husband's bachelor days, and it was seriously groty lol. I attempted to clean it a few times but after that I gave up. I thought there was no hope for it. Dude, you made a believer out of me! Holy sh*t, it's so clean!!! Amazing! Thank you 😀😀😀
Can buy a new One for less than $75 ..And MW should be replaced a Min of every 7-10 yrs ! Radiation Leaks..Worn Seals, etc.. and New one's use Less Eletricity !
I cover my containers or plates with a damp paper towels and it works very well. I have never clean the filters inside my microwave because I don't know if you can remove them but to me just looking at them they look very clean. So, are we supposed to clean these filters, and how? Thank you.
i have IFB micro+conv from inside over the top it has rods it does not have plain surface as shown in your microwave.how should i clean the food sticked to the rods as i am unable to clean it with towel
hey one good thing for covering your food in the microwave is to use coffee filters, you can buy them really cheap at Dollar Tree and buy alot for cheap.
Just saw it! I tried backing soda, all kinds of degreasers and even abrasive cream cleaners - nothing really works! It still has that grease spots on the walls... I'll give that steam cleaner a try! Thank you for your time! :)
My microwave was horrifically dirty. My kids and husband don’t cover the food and I hadn’t cleaned it in months. Everything was caked on and burned. This worked beautifully 😄 thank you!
Hi, Mellisa, thanks for the video, I tried this but it did not help me. My microwave got some stubborn marks and I want to make it like new. Do you have any tip for that. Can I use rust remover inside of the microwave? Thanks
great tip, i microwave a bowl of plain water for 5 minutes and leave it in there for 30-45 seconds, let the microwave steam up then wipe it with a paper towel. I also use a plate cover to microwave all my food. You can get it at any Target store. Its very handy.
great tip! thank you! quick question...how do you clean the microfiber cloths after use to ensure the gunk gets out? perhaps a future video on how to clean the cleaning rags and such? thanks!
We have a self-cleaning oven video, have you seen it? A great way to clean your non self-cleaning oven is with a steam cleaner or with some sort of enzyme cleaner.
Just cleaned my microwave thanks to this video! I tried using vinegar (you mentioned in your 10 uses for vinegar video)... it didn't work as well as I had hoped though... but the food in there had been stuck for months.... but with a sponge and some mild soapy water, I was able to get most of the gunk off. :) It's kind of stained with grease though... any tips on removing the orange-ness? :)
About how long does it take to clean your entire kitchen? Including cleaning floors and stove tops and more. Is there anyway you could give a video on your kitchen cleaning routine?
is it overkill & kind of a potential mess to use the leftover lemon & salt to really scrub anything that might be caked on in there after the microwave steamer ?
I neglected my microwave for a while because I just don't use it. I forgot it was even in the house. Anyway, it has all kinds of baked on gunk in there. I got some cleaning vinegar, sprayed it, let it dwell for about 10 minutes and wiped it down. It did a great job, and it didn't take much elbow grease either. I also cleaned my aunt's microwave a couple years ago with just plain water. I had it boiling for a few minutes, let the steam do its thing and scrubbed the sucker. It didn't take much elbow grease either, and she hadn't cleaned her microwave in, like, 2 years.
Great video but what about cleaning a normal overn? Also I have got a small oven that is stainless steel, how do I clean it especially that I tried to clean it with water but it left a stain and I want to proper clean it because there is some oil splashed on it when I fried some food. Plz help :) xxxx
Thanks for this...very helpful. My 9 year old "overcooked" (i.e. burnt) something and now we have a brown looking patch on the back panel of the microwave I can't get off. Question: do you know of any way to get that burn stain off?
Never thought of the lemon and water solution. Sounds good but I don't usually have a mess so bad that simple wiping won't do. I will try using a bowl or something similar to cover the food. When I know something may splatter, I use a paper towel but that isn't very useful. It contains the food but often gets really wet and messy.
Wait until you have dried food on there that has sat for a week. Also my microwave/convection oven is over 10 years old. Is there any way I can get the plate that has turned yellowish brown a little whiter.
My MicroFiber Towels, . in a Larger Bowl or small bucket.. Wring them out and put them in Microwave for 1-3 min.. then hang to dry out.( But if use them on surfaces that will scratch? I'd Use a new MF Towel just to be safe
Ugh... I just cleaned my microwave today. I think it's a year old and that's about how long it's been since it was last clean. I used white vinegar and water, 5 minutes on high, 1200 watts. That wasn't enough so I put it in for another 5 minutes then left it sitting in there for half an hour. Worked like a dream and now it's like it's brand new again. Don't put off cleaning your microwave, kids.
How do you clean the outside of the microwave if there is buildup in areas other than the buttons? I've tried wiping it down with a damp rag and it still looks like there's buildup of dust, grease (since I use a single burner hotplate and have to plug it in next to the microwave to cook) and other debris such as pet hair, since my cat loves to walk on the table next to the microwave
Bravo. But I have to say that I loved the "obligatory microwave cleaning dance" on the greenappleclean vlog. A dance would be nice. The outtakes were cute though ;)
Instead of lemon, vinegar also works great. If the dirt is too dry, microwave the water solution for 10 minutes istead of 5 minutes and just deep a cloth in that hot liquid and wash it of. And to keep the tray clean, just put the tray in diahwasher with normal dishes everytime you do dishes.
I have tried it, and it worked really well for all the dirt inside, but it didn't take all the smell. Should I just repeat it or should I try with vinegar also? It smells really nasty of butter..
Hi ***** , glad it worked so well, I love it too! So, you would get a lot of steam in your face and I wouldn't recommend sticking your kisser right in there, but I think you should be OK if you stand about a foot back from it.
Will this method also work on stainless steel inside the microwave as that is some stubborn stains and your video shows yours is the white parts only being cleaned
Thanks for all the tips... love your videos. This is off topic but, where did you buy your shirt, my daughter love those and I cannot fine the shirts anywhere. Thanks
Looks like a great idea, will try that next time! I usually clean mine by spraying white vinegar all over and wiping it with a paper towel after each use. But my microwave has a grill on top and it's been so impossible to clean no matter how much I wipe.
I like to use a vinegar and water solution to clean my microwave. I use the same method...put solution in a bowl, microwave for a few minutes...then wipe clean while microwave is still hot.
I have been cleaning out my microwave every weak love it. Also if you want to keep it clean instead of wasting dishes just use a paper towel or paper plate
Love your videos. The production is cool, nice graphics and sound effects. We had a little 'accident' in our microwave where something got burned. It's got a smokey smell and some brown areas left over and using the lemon/water trick did not help. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this stuff? Thanks!
OK...this went from a possible BS tip to the best thing since sliced bread. I have a heavily stained microwave that now sparkles and smells so much better and a combo oven (convection/microwave) from Miele that cost an arm and a leg (love it) but it is impossible to clean with chemicals due to the grills and fan openings. This tip using vinegar and water dissolved 6 month old baked on spots. I used a Pyrex big dish and then soaked the metal rack too which also came out like new. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for the great tips! I was following along to video and hurray I had a lemon! Yay! This is a great alternative healthy option that I was looking for.
I have a general question about cleaning - i don't know if it has been answered before. It involves rags, microfiber cloth, sponges and what not in most cleanings. How do you clean those? Rags and sponges get disgusting...even after running under the kitchen faucet. How do you clean and dry them?
I know it's been two years since you asked but that exact situation is why I use paper towels even though it's wasteful. I don't think I could stomach re-using something that had to clean that level of filth.
Small sink Sponges: Small Bowl- Fill with 1 cap full of Bleach and 1 Table spoon of Vinegar and rest water, Put your sponge(s) in it , let sit for 5-10 min., Then take out wet and, Squeeze it 3-4 x in sink, then Put into your Microwave, run for 1 Minute and watch the foam come out.. Rinse with tap water. And I Always buy Min 4 Sponges at a time and Replace your sponges every WEEK! Can keep the old one's for the Using on the Floor or walls for spot cleaning or for Garage, use, ( Great for Super Cleaning the Windshield and Bugs off Front End Bumper, etc.. etc.. ( I buy my Sponges at The Dollar Store - 4 for $1 or Wal Mart. ) I also Keep a Small Bowl by the sink with 1 Cap full of Bleach , 1 drop of Lemon Dish Soap and Water in it and Put my sponge in it for over nite soaking.. Do the same with My MicroFiber Towels, . in a Larger Bowl or small bucket.. Wring them out and put them in Microwave for 1-3 min.. then hang to dry out.( But if use them on surfaces that will scratch? I'd Use a new Towel just to be safe) . and I still use BOUNTY Paper Towels.. as much as possible ;-)
@@dennisthemenance5433 that is incredibly wasteful just get a small dish cloth and disinfectant detergent and wash in hot water with the rest of your kitchen and house cleaning rags
I just did it but used an orange instead because I did not have any lemon. It worked like a dream. I can't believe how easy it was and for years I've been scrubbing!! Thank you so much Melissa.
That's great Murray! Good to know that an orange will work as well!
Murray Lichter how do I clean the gas top stove?
I had a microwave full of dried on mess; I hadn't cleaned it in months, probably 2-3 (gross, I know). I used this method, but left the bowl in the microwave for 30 minutes without opening the door. Did it a second time and let it sit another 10. I was able to wipe away everything with a sponge. I was totally skeptical, but thought I'd give it a shot. It's crazy how good this works. Thank you, Melissa!
I have health issues & my microwave is n the same condition. Thanks 4 the added info. 👍😉
Once u mess it up, let it dry for 3 months like mine then we'll talk...
Why don't you give this method a try on your nasty ass microwave and see for yourself?
I used a similar method on MY nasty ass microwave just using vinegar and water and I cleaned up real easy.
Exactly what I was thinking... n
LOL!! I'm like you... will this work on MY mess?? After over a year of cooked on mess, THIS METHOD WORKED! Now, I will KEEP it clean!
i realize I'm kind of randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to stream new tv shows online?
@Dakota Stephen flixportal :)
I have always used a mixture of water/white distilled vinegar/baking soda which also gets some of the mixture onto the walls and the floor of the microwave so when you wipe it all out you really get everything out. New, fresh dirt is, in general, easy to clean. Would have been good to see how you clean old dirt.
Yak Chizi she said the process is the same but you would have to scrub more
Old sticky grease!
@@silentstorm8071 it came off my messy baked on mess... 5 minutes of steam and lemon juice is powerful... lemon juice is strong acid. (I wore gloves)
Exactly what I was going to say ... it fresh splatter that’s easy
You just saved my life! It also works with a dishwashing detergent and water mixture. It took me like 10 minutes including the time waiting for the microwave heating the bowl!! Thank youuuu!!

over 20 people usage for 1 year and sit in storage for 4 months. It was sparkling clean in 10 minutes (5 min in the microwave). Amazing!!! Thank you.

Be careful. This isn't good for your microwave. They are supposed to only be turned on if there is at least a minimum amount of liquid in them. I think it is a cup or so. (Check the manual or Google it to know for sure)
SimpLee Beth most foods have water in them. There’s enough water in a lemon to not be concerned.
I've bought a plastic cover for bowls which prevents the splatter
Great vid again!
I need one now

Hmm, cream of tartar works well to remove rust spots, so create a paste of CofT and water and buff the rusty areas until it comes clean.
That was actually really helpful. I'm constantly running around after my 10 month old so my poor microwave has been neglected. It was super easy to do only took a few mins and my microwave was seriously dirty!

buy some cheap paper plates works good on smaller dishes and bowls

now try that with "DRIED ON" food, it does work, but nowhere as easy or good as you show
I use vinegar for the funky smell from foods. If it doesn’t smell just use plain water. I also use a $1.00 microwave cover. Dollar Tree.
We are trying this now!
If I don’t have a lemon can I use lemon juice?? As I’ve always lemon juice
Same here, citrus tends to be a little pricey in my area so vinegar and water are a budget friendly solution ^_^
The quality is good for a video from 7 years ago
how often should a microwave be cleaned in a busy office?
that is the most amazing idea i've ever heard im going to try it now🤩
Instead of lemon, vinegar also works great. If the dirt is too dry, microwave the water solution for 10 minutes istead of 5 minutes and just deep a cloth in that hot liquid and wash it of. And to keep the tray clean, just put the tray in diahwasher with normal dishes everytime you do dishes.
I've got one for you: How do I clean my washing machine? I'm pretty sure there's limescale and other soap gunk in there. Any suggestions?
Vinegar and soda, put the washing machine on empty cycle at 60.
Will limes work instead of lemons?
I have tried it, and it worked really well for all the dirt inside, but it didn't take all the smell. Should I just repeat it or should I try with vinegar also? It smells really nasty of butter..
This worked amazingly! Thank you! I am curious: do you know if it is dangerous to stand in front of an open mircowave right after it has been used?
Hi ***** , glad it worked so well, I love it too! So, you would get a lot of steam in your face and I wouldn't recommend sticking your kisser right in there, but I think you should be OK if you stand about a foot back from it.
Great question Tammy I was wondering the same. Ty.
If you don't want to use another bowl they also sell microwave covers (for your bowls or plates) that may even be dishwasher safe.
Thank you for this! I cleaned my microwave a while ago, and it took a while. Just to be clear, we leave the juiced lemon...shell in the bowl?
Thank you for your kind response :)
hello thanks for the tips. i wonder if you have a video on how to clean oil stains from cooking??? (on countertop, wall ect..) thanks
Did this today and it totally worked! Thanks Melissa!
Vielen Dank für nützliche Tipps. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland
Thanks
That actually worked, thanks a million, it made my job way too easy 👍💯
will bottled lemon juice work?
Looks like a great idea, will try that next time! I usually clean mine by spraying white vinegar all over and wiping it with a paper towel after each use. But my microwave has a grill on top and it's been so impossible to clean no matter how much I wipe.
I like to use a vinegar and water solution to clean my microwave. I use the same method...put solution in a bowl, microwave for a few minutes...then wipe clean while microwave is still hot.
If you have turmeric stain from curries, you need to spray 151 Elbow grease, wait a few mins. And then clean up.
I have been cleaning out my microwave every weak love it. Also if you want to keep it clean instead of wasting dishes just use a paper towel or paper plate
Hi Melissa, this is totally unrelated but could you do a video on how you blow dry your hair, products used, etc? Thanks!
I really like this video. don't like the scent of vinegar so this is my method. Very helpful. 👍
Love your videos. The production is cool, nice graphics and sound effects. We had a little 'accident' in our microwave where something got burned. It's got a smokey smell and some brown areas left over and using the lemon/water trick did not help. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this stuff? Thanks!
Good information. Thanks.
I used a lime which works as well 👌👌👌👍
Question, did you eat that Ravioli? Just curious !!:)) lol. Great video thank you:))
Excellent tips.
Hi Melissa, I want to know how I can clean between the 2 glasses front door of my oven, if you have any clue let me know. thank you.
Cover the ravioli with a paper dish or paper towel & eliminate the mess. Heating water in the microwave also works to make cleaning easy.
Use Mr Coffee filters to cover food in microwave. Cover a bowl with a plate for single serve then use the plate under the bowl to catch spills, after.
More Dishwahsing to do.. Just Keep a Roll of PAPER TOWELS next to MW ( Vertically ) and use 1 sheet to cover the open food ..

is there any alternative to the lemon? like, can I use vinegar instead?
Thank you so much for the great tips! I was following along to video and hurray I had a lemon! Yay! This is a great alternative healthy option that I was looking for.
Where did you buy the microwave from? I have been looking for one but couldn't find the same one please answer
How do you clean the outside of the microwave. The black shiny (plastic?) surface without scratching?
I have learnt a lot can you do a video on cleaning doors
Can keep the old one's for the Using on the Floor or walls for spot cleaning or for Garage, use, ( Great for Super Cleaning the Windshield and Bugs off Front End Bumper, etc.. etc.. ( I buy my Sponges at The Dollar Store - 4 for $1 or Wal Mart. )
I also Keep a Small Bowl by the sink with 1 Cap full of Bleach , 1 drop of Lemon Dish Soap and Water in it and Put my sponge in it for over nite soaking..
Put them in the clothes washer or dishwasher
@@dennisthemenance5433 that is incredibly wasteful just get a small dish cloth and disinfectant detergent and wash in hot water with the rest of your kitchen and house cleaning rags
