England fan coming in peace What I like about this song is that if you didn’t watch the video you wouldn’t know it was a football song! Really really good song
As an englishman and obviously an england fan I've gotta admit this is a great song my grandad was from Glasgow so always respected the Scots good luck tonight against Germany and the tournament
I mean this with love. This is the most honest and hilarious world cup song ever. And I genuinely love the melancholy of the tune. Me Mum's scottish and this is my youth with Scottish football; Only an Excuse, this an Scotland Brazil wi popcorn after school. Thank you fer being a part of that.
Scotland Team won through to Euros 2021 tonight in a Penalty Masterclass....Scottish Manager Steve Clark knows how to choose them when the going gets tough. Boys with HEART; congratulations to David Marshall and the Team
Just heard Justin Currie on Tracks of My Years with Ken Bruce saying how this song has ended up a shocking part of his life with all the ribbing he got from it. Well Justin keep your head up mate this song is amazing and it will last forever unlike many that are well forgettable!
If I could command the choice: own this song or own the World Cup.... I’d take the song home any day!!! Brilliant. This song is forever, the cup will disappear after four years, be like we never had it really!
This is the most down-to-earth, honest song about international football ever. I'm not even Scottish. England need a dose of this before their next tournament.
Listening to this on the eve of Scotland Hungary in Euro 24 tomorrow keeping the faith. The 90s footage makes me nostalgic for my youth. COME ON SCOTLAND 🏴!!!!
There’s a rumour doing the rounds that Gordon Durie only needed a paltry six takes before scoring the goal in the final scene...which you have to say is pretty impressive stuff.
I have years listening this song and I just love it! and the video is really good, definitely I became a fan of the Scotland squad and the old guard of players like Hendry, Sullivan, Leighton, Durie, Collins, McCoyst, McNamara, McCallister, Boyd, Calderwood, etc.. And right now this song would become an "anthem" for us (Mexicans), because as you know, we got to the humiliating playoff against New Zealand where anything can be happen. But surely "we're gonna laugh it all way" to reach Brazil 2014, supporting the "Tricolor", our selection. Greetings from Toluca, Mexico to all Scottish friends whom I hope to see again in the world cup =)
OK I'm not a Scot but this sums up how it is to be a fan of a team that won't bring you glory. But you stick with your team and just keep that bit of hope. Love it.
Its actually honest compared to Three Lions, which is a form of constant drivel about 'Football Coming Home". 1. The actual organisation and structure of the game was pioneered by a Scotsman and 2. England will never win the World Cup ever again, so saying its "coming home" everytime you go to a tournament is bullshit and you know it! The song is just annoying, quite arrogant and really cringy, you know and everyone knows you are not good and eating at the big boys table just look serriously outta place. David Badiel is probably one of the most unfunny c**ts going and Frank Skinner, who is actually funny or was, let him self badly down by writting this. However, the best rendition of it was when the Germany side of 96 who won the Euro's at Wembley sung it, back in Berlin near the Brandenburg Gate 😎. Fucking priceless. 😎😂😂 It wasn't sung out of respect for England, they were taking the piss big style. The English always claiming the Germans don't have a sense of humour an all, eh. 😉😂😂
@@caveman385 Don't be silly, 3 Lions mentions England's failures as well as the good times. Ally's Tartan Army is the greatest Football song anyway, everyone knows that.
@@Chris_34 Its a jokey opptimism, don't mistake that for taking it as gospel, Scotland knows and knew its not easy and are honest about it, we don't actually think we are going to win it or ever really did like England do with everything they go into. Three Lions still goes on and on about the Jules Rimet! Best thing England done was stop with the songs, be realistic! Jules Rimet disappeared of the face of the earth and ain't even the World Cup now, refresh the mind and start thinking about winning the one that was introduced in 74 and used ever since. The best football song is actually Far Away In America by The Village People and Germany for USA 94! 😂😂😂😂
I wasn't really the biggest fan of this at the time (1998) but I think it's got better with age and I absolutely love it (and the video) now in 2024. Very nostalgic and emotional for me 🙏☀️🏴🇩🇪⚽️❤️
Colin Hendry, Christian Dailly, Gordon Durie, Colin Calderwood, Paul Lambert, John Collins, Jim Leighton.. All the legends. I remember this video clips back in 1998, loves from Indonesia. What a great Scotland XI
Three Lions already did that two years before, just without the "h" in "boys" (which I don't think Rangers appreciated at your end): "Everyone seems to know the score, they've seen it all before..."
The greatest football song? And a lovely video. Not really what die hard fans always want but you were never going to get jingoistic nonsense from JC. Good luck to Scotland especially Billy G against Germany. Even long shots make it.
I'm English and due to a long standing addiction I have to follow my country in all competitions and it always pisses me rite off that we havnt had a tune anywhere near as good as this as long as I can remember , it's quality, pure quality !
This brings back so many memories. I had tears of joy when Marshall saved that penalty. I had started to think we'd never qualify again. This has been a terrible year but those boys made me smile again. By the way this song was described at the time as too low key, a dour anthem but I actually think it's a very good song and I love the video. I think we can get out of our group next summer with the two our games at Hampden. Believe. Belief is a beauty thing.
LMAO! 😂😂😂😂. Whenever I'm having a bit of back and forth with a Scotland fan in the comments I bring this song up and they really don't like it, I can see why I suppose. At least you've got a sense of humour about it👍.

Yeah! That's the thing, that song isn't quite as embaressing or as shit as that Badiel tosh is a major lie for a kick off if people actually look at the history of the game and that when England meet world class teams they are exposed for the frauds they are and the game they talk. It doesn't end up anywhere else other than places where football has been made at home by perennial winners. It's Going To Rome, It's Going To Rome Footballs Going To Rome Tricolore on the shirt, England couldnae get near them. 55+ years of hurt would be removed if they stopped lying to themselves that they were going to win anything other than the old Rimet trophy. Btw, do England know that other trophies exist. Then again, I don't think Chiesa, Immobile, Insigne, Cheillini, Verrati, Donnaruma and co will let them in on the fact that the other trophy exists. 🙄
This reminds me of the Scotland v Brazil game at the start of France 98. I invited friends over to my parents house to watch the game and the place got trashed. One of the boys shat on the bathroom floor then trampled it through the house. Another mate knocked my bike against the patio window with his kilt and smashed the glass right through. My maw went crazy when she noticed the shite on the floor and all through the carpets 😂
Scotland won't come home too soon regardless of a positive covid test for Gilmour. Scotland v Croatia: 3 draws and 2 wins for us against them and thats when the had all the players who played in the World Cup final, they don't have them now. A group stage exit from a major tournament is a great Scottish tradition.
Probably the most honest and realistic pre-tournament song ever recorded. “We don’t expect you to win it all, just don’t be too rubbish”
