Hey Jason and Niki. An epirb should always be mounted on the outside. When a ship goes under the epirb container breaks open when it comes into contact with salt water and floats to the surface. You don't want it getting stuck in a galley underwater. If it's underwater that attenuates and distorts the distress signal it's transmitting. Not good when you really need it. Mount it somewhere where it can break free and float to the surface or somewhere where you guys can quickly grab it if you are abandoning ship and take it with you. Everyone thinks ship sinking when they think epirb, but one of the biggest reasons people abandon ship is a fire onboard the vessel. The galley is the number one place where fires take place on a boat. So you again don't want it somewhere where it will get destroyed before it can do it's job. Mount it to the support column of a bamini or canopy near the helm.
Happy birthday Nikki! Since you are leaving China now thank you for showing us some parts of this impressive and beautiful country which looked and felt somewhat different to what we see in our TV news.
I was watching a few older videos last week, and they purchased an extra freezer, while not the main reason, the plan was to store up on ice cream. Jason, it will save some pennies. We know you love to save. 😺
Sooo many possible comments but I’ll just say, I (we the community) am very excited for you both. Many of us from RV days to now have watched you and your channel grow and mature. Family gatherings to lonely sunsets its always a reason to look forward to Sunday mornings. Can’t wait until you set sail into the next chapter.
So enjoying having a window into this process. A glimpse into China I would never have had. The process of moving into a home/boat. I would be terrified to be taking a new vessel out for the first time, but also coordinating weather into an area that could be hostile. Mind blowing. Still, your organization and ability to work together is inspiring. I look forward to continuing this journey from the comfort of my well organized home.
You can make your own ice cream without an ice cream maker. One pint of heavy cream which you use a mixer to whip until you have stiff peaks, then add one can sweetened condensed milk and whip again. Freeze into small containers. You can add flavorings before or after freezing. I like to do it after so that I can choose whatever topping I want to flavor it with. I have used cocoa powder and pancake syrup (which was delicious by itself). Any kind of syrup works. Regular toppings like chocolate syrup, pineapple, butterscotch, whatever floats your boat.⛵😂
I was starting to get concerned when we hadn’t heard from you for three weeks so relieved and pleased to see that you are all well. I hope your new boat meets and exceeds all your expectations.
Wow, I can't believe I've hanged around this long to see the project completed. It seems like yesterday when you were talking about buying a brand new boat. Time flies. Congratulations!🎉
OMG…that cat ear hat gets me every time. ❤. You are so serious in describing your preparations…..but then there’s that hat. Love it.❤. So looking forward to your journey. Also….nicely communicated about how some products look “similar”…so PC for dealing with the country you are in yet gets your point across. Cheers guys😊
Your community have been waiting for this day for so long!!! You're finally moving onto the boat!!! And on Nikki's birthday!!! What a present!!! Happy birthday Nikki!! Can't wait for the adventure to begin !
Happy Birthday Nikki. It’s great to see you getting ready to leave but like mixed emotions I have really enjoyed your videos of China, wish there were more, bon voyage and safe sailing.
Congratulations on becoming boat owners again! And Happy Birthday Nikki. Don’t be too worried about finding forever homes for things yet - find places to stow them safely initially if you are under time pressure, and find the proper homes once you get used to the space and what works well where. I moved into my new apartment 4 weeks ago and I am still figuring out where things go. With lots of trying spaces and moving things again. And also remembering what I packed up 4 months ago…or forgot to pack! But this weekend, I found a proper supermarket so I was buying spices too, and managed to get both my sewing machine and Kenwood chef back in use finally. So enjoy the process once you have the urgent stuff sorted.
I’m sitting here watching and at one point I get so excited and I remember when you guys got back to your boat post the start of the pandemic. It made me so happy for you guys in these moments as your new journey begins. Happy for you guys. And… Happy Birthday.
The Wynn's are back on the water 😂 The world just got a whole lot better ❤. Congratulations and well done on the content between Curiositys it has been a journey
It's hard to believe that its been two years since you went from no boat to new boat. You have made things so entertaining between boats that the time flew by. I love your channel and the two of you are always like a breath of fresh air. I'm looking forward to the adventures you will partake in your new boat. Good luck and good sailing and God bless you both. Ray
Happy Birthday Nikki and what an amazing gift you were given from a timing perspective. This is going to be a great adventure and we are excited to be on it with you.
Congratulations! As a technical/in-depth idea for a short series (imho) it would be great to see a thorough walk through of everything you put on the boat and where you stored it all. All the best for good winds and safe passages!
I cannot believe it has been two years! I appreciate you thanking me for staying with you both on this journey………BUT I hope you realize how much fun and how exciting this has been. Speaking for myself you two have given me an adventure of a lifetime. I am envious and so thankful for you sharing your dreams. Hope this lasts for years to come.
Love your positivity in all that chaos. That store looks so useful, a huge range of items that you will find impossible to buy when out cruising. Here's hoping the new boat is reliable with only a few simple teething problems.
I remember the episode when you left your former boat. Interesting how the reality of your lives gets compressed into minutes on video. The little we see of your complex lives. Thank you for sharing.
Wishing You a Magical Birthday! It is super nice that the HH staff pitched in to help you move on the boat. They seem like really good people. Your excitement is catchy! I find myself happy and it's not even my boat! Happy Trails from Florida
Epirb’s are always an eyesore, we put ours above the saloon door to the cockpit. In your path of escape so it wouldn’t be forgotten also to give it a chance to auto deploy and make it out of a sinking boat if it wasn’t taken on exit
Hi, guys. I’m a tugboat Captain and I’ll agree with several others - EPIRB must be mounted outside, free of obstructions, and in a higher spot if possible. It might be handy to put it near the life raft so it can be grabbed in a hurry in the event you have to ditch Curiosity. She looks great! Congratulations.
Happy birthday Nicky. Great that you now have your HH, and it’s yours. As a follower I am stoked, because I get to go exploring with you again. Sending love to both xxxxxxxx
Yes ebikes! A couple tips. Put FlatOut in your tires. It's a little extra insurance against getting a flat. And don't use cable locks. They can be snipped with pocket cutters. Get something like Kryptonite bike chains. And I vote yes on the ice cream maker for Nikki :) I can't wait for your next video, and your next, and your next, and... :D I'm so excited for you guys.
Congratulations God bless you and keep you safe in all your journeys!!!!!! I look forward every week to learn so much! Not like the garbage they put on TV you are real life education and great entertainment!!! Looking forward to you guys showing the mechanical aspect of your beautiful craft! Happy Birthday Nikki!
I've been watching since the RV days, and move-in day is still as overwhelming as it always is, whether you've done it 1 time or 100 times! And yet, each time you've tackled it like a pro: break the project into chunks, map out the days, organize what you can, and most importantly: Stay positive! Which you accomplished. :) It will all happen in the allotted time....because it has to.
Jason: “This is my excited face!” Love it! A huge transformational chapter - looking forward to more excited face moments. Congratulations to you both! ❤
Happy Birthday Nikki! We could feel your stress but that was to be expected. No doubt everything will fall into place in due time. Very happy you have great people like yourselves around you to help!
Ice-cream the easy way, on the way, 500ml whipping cream whipped, mix together 1 1/12 cups sugar with 1 354ml can condensed milk until sugar is dissolved then whip mixture into whip cream, I freeze this in a plastic bowl and stir it a couple times as it sets to speed up the setting. It can be left to set on its own without stirring but will take a couple hours longer to set fully. we made blueberry swirl yesterday as a favorite by stirring a homemade blueberry pie filling into the base cream after the second hour of freezing as to help suspend the added treat. May your days be filled with a good breeze and your nights filled with dreams of tomorrow . Cheers
Wahoooo now it’s official you new home/boat/ everything!! Congratulations and happy birthday!! Great to see the “small “ things are happening for preparation for the big day of sailing out for the first time. Thanks!!🙏
Well I think this will be one of those birthdays you won’t forget what you did for it. Happy Birthday Niki!! I am happy for you guys, you’ve worked hard to get to this point. As far as the house moving is concerned- I’ve done it 8 times- 6 overseas and two in the states while in the military. You just put your head down and get it done. Off Topic Sorry. Happy Birthday That color is stunning! Amazingly Beautiful. Casy Hello. Welcome Back. Love you all so much!! Safe sailing, Safe seas, Every Blessing-
Hey Niki and Jason: we mount our EPIRB outside, close to the helm location. I believe the company which manufactured your unit gives instructions on mounting. Just wanted to shout out the fancy new toolsets Jason is so obviously proud of. I hope you enjoy getting the factory shine off of ‘em in pretty places.
Congratulations to you both on the completion of your final move on really looking forward to seeing your journey on the new boat love the colour of the hull. All my love from Uk
happy birthday, belated. real, raw we loved it. It is what we signed up for. we enjoy your chaos as it is contained in a youtube frame. much love. and ya, congrats.
Happy Birthday Nikki!! See if the EPIRB will mount the bulkhead behind and to the side of the wheel, in line below the winch, on one side, and the man overboard float in the same position on the other side. It seemed like it would fit, close at hand but out of the way, and easily accessible if needed, time slot 12:20. Good luck with the sorting and fair winds for you both on your new home...
I, too, love Nikki’s kitty beanie 😸 (as this Californian calls it). Curious, where do you live that calls it a toboggan? To me, a toboggan is a little sled you slide on in the snow. 😂I somehow found myself following a homesteading family in the middle of Alabama (Cog Hill Farm) and they also call it a toboggan. They have had various humorous back & forth with followers about these regional differences! 😄
Finally back on the water!!!!!!! I've been waiting years for this and I'm so excited to see what happens every week now (not that I wasn't before). Life is back to normal again 🥰🥰🥰
One of the most important aspects of operating any piece of machinery is knowing everything you can about it so you understand it comfortably and completely. You will be much more aligned with your boat after living on her for the extra time - it will serve well in your future sailings.
Mount EPIRBs where they can float away from the vessel if it sinks. It will float away and transmit for help. Outside the wheel house/ on top of the wheel house. Your SART could be by the exit to the house. That you should have on you exiting the boat and onto the life raft. (>15 yrs offshore exp)
I agree with one of the other comments here. An EPIRB should be on the outside. On my last trip (transporting), I mounted one on the stern by the exit/helm, another on the bow, and kept a small/personal one affixed to my life jacket. If I had another I'd put it in the oceanic life raft. Redundancies for stuff like this just seems appropriate. Cheers!
So exciting to see you on Curiosity II! I was stunned when I realized it’s been 2 yrs!!! I remember moving from our house to our 42’ monohull - loaded on everything I thought we needed and a week later, if you stood on the dock next to our slip, all you’d see was plastic ware flying out of the hatch into the cockpit! Less is more!!😂😂😂! Can’t wait for next weeks video! 🎉🥂💖
We had a Dan buoy like yours inflate unintentionally because it got too wet. Got the white bag they sell as an option to put it in. Looks much nicer and stops it from going off when the boat is getting spray in heavy weather
Happy belated birthday. You've inspired us to finally clean the junk rooms in our house, with time lapse GoPro. I wish we could move that fast for real!
Nikki, Jason. This is my first comment, but long-ish timed sub, forever watcher of your amazing videos. Today I had to comment. I'm a soft hearted guy in my mid 30s and this video made me fill with so many emotions for you guys. I've been laughing, crying almost and so excited to see this dream of you guys, eventually, come to life from day Dot. You both have such vibes, energy, motivation, adventure and so much more. This is why I had to comment, you're both such a joy to watch and being part of your online sailing family, I'd like to say thank you for all the time you put into making these vlogs for us all on the other end watching. You both truely are great! And OMG, 2 years has really flown over, with covid and such things, time has flown so fast and im so happy for you both. Happy Sailing and can't wait for the future adventures! Also ebike, cant wait for the video on that as i'm also looking to buy :) Happy Chinese new year one and all! Much love from the UK! Dan

Happy birthday Nikki! Since you are leaving China now thank you for showing us some parts of this impressive and beautiful country which looked and felt somewhat different to what we see in our TV news.
Happy birthday!! That was really nice they helped you guys move. Since Jason has a dishwasher, Nikki should get an ice cream maker. 😊
Fair point. I hope Nikki will get her ice cream maker!! We will build team “ ice maker for Nikki” like we did for Jasaon’s dishwasher!!
Especially since the ice cream maker was only $14 just a little less than a dishwasher
First thought you celebrate the boat’s birthday 🎉
They will be forever happy with the ICE CREAM Maker!!
I was watching a few older videos last week, and they purchased an extra freezer, while not the main reason, the plan was to store up on ice cream. Jason, it will save some pennies. We know you love to save. 😺

Hey Niki and Jason: we mount our EPIRB outside, close to the helm location. I believe the company which manufactured your unit gives instructions on mounting. I would have more than one as a safety factor, but that's my preference. Make sure you check the battery every so often, there is a test pattern aligned with product awareness sector. Huge step forward and we are praying for safe passages and good times ahead.
Congratulations on the new boat. Safe travels and fair winds! Can’t wait to see the tour of the new boat once it is all set up.
Enjoy watching you from time to time as an older guy living through you guy's. Wish you luck this boat looks like it is extremely high maintenance.
There you are. I've been wondering where you went &what happened with the boat. Can't wait to see you sail out on the Big Blue Sea!

EPIRBS should be mounted outside, this is incase of a fire inside...and easily accessible so you can take it with you in the liferaft...
I’ve also usually seen them held in brackets that would dissolve or open if the boat sank with the Epirb still attached.
I am so excited for you! Happy birthday, Nikki.
Happy birthday Nikki! What an exciting time for you guys! Your new boat looks amazing and I look forward to seeing you two sailing again ❤
Congratulations on your new boat, and many (many!) happy returns Nikki!

So happy for you both !! What a journey! Wishing you all the best on getting back on the water !!
Your boat looks amazing!!
Fair winds⛵️
Finally back on the water!!!!!!! I've been waiting years for this and I'm so excited to see what happens every week now (not that I wasn't before). Life is back to normal again 🥰🥰🥰
One of the most important aspects of operating any piece of machinery is knowing everything you can about it so you understand it comfortably and completely. You will be much more aligned with your boat after living on her for the extra time - it will serve well in your future sailings.
What a fun video, you make it feel like we are right beside you. Super content and editing. OH, congratulations.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIKKI🥳 Glad to see the next journey is starting to begin.
Cheers!
Congratulations 🎉 can’t wait to see you all settled in.
I hope you had a wonderful maiden voyage.
I haven’t clicked on a video so fast, I’m beyond excited for you both. Happy birthday Nikki!
Also ebike, cant wait for the video on that as i'm also looking to buy :)
Happy Chinese new year one and all!
Much love from the UK!
Dan
