how wonderful never though of it, persona comes from "to sound through" =per sonare...the sounds ( voices) that came through the mouths of the Ancient Greek masks. We know each actor had a mask...the "personae" of the play a re those whose voices went through the marsk, ergo , the characters...the 'persons" ! Lovely.
