I've worked with wood and fiberglass for many many years, and yet I still learned some things from this video! What a labor of love that board has become - absolutely wonderful!

Being an Old-Timey wood worker, when I saw you start chambering the board and you splitting the glued joints apart - I almost had a stroke. Then I saw how you make those aircraft wing-like chambers and then all was well with the world again. Wow! what a beautiful craft- Great job Andrew!

very nice board about 15 years ago I made a wooden Wakeboard in a fairly similar way although I put a solid Poplar rib down the center to stiffen the boards flex as much as possible it worked ! I grew up in Florida and I’ve always wanted to build my own surfboard , now I’m old and a retired Woodworker I’m thinking of doing a Paddleboard / Longboard Surfboard as the boards I’ve preferred are what you young guys consider Longboards like my 6 foot 2 incnch Sunshine single fin

One of the most beautiful boards I've ever seen. I would love to make one of these, but I can't imagine how many hours you've got into this. I think I'd be too afraid to ding or scratch it up to actually use it in a lineup. Huge respect!

    • @carlosreira2189

I agree. It won't ding anywhere as easy as a foam-resin-glass board, but if it's covered in carbon fiber? Oh shit, indestructable.

Andrew, I love this video. I'm not much of a surfer myself, but I intend to use the chambered method to make a boogie (body) board for myself and daughter. Although I've seen plenty of video doing it from foam and plywood, I think I would enjoy the chambering process quite a bit. I plan t o use redwood for the body and cedar as the striped accents. Thanks, I'll be referring to this video once I get started.

good luck…you’ll have to guess. as much as I enjoy his videos & how-to-DiYs, I’ve never seen a response. he’s great with his projects, but poor with response. I looked this up a few years ago & saw from a few sources online, that if you copy the exact shape & length of a Foam & Fiberglass board, then find the weight of them & multiply them by 1.3, so they’re basically around 40% heavier. I imagine you can lower that by removing more stock, creating more void volume, but I can’t say from experience.
