This transformation is like making a new skyrim character.

I love the idea of mainline IDW figures, but this level of engineering is way too much for the scale.
This should of just been small and simple then used this model and upscaled it to MP or even bigger, I’d never have the patience for this despite how good it looks.
I think Identity crisis was the perfect term for this toy

I obviously know you've done this correctly, it's an actual skill, and you kill it! But, damn if it doesn't look like the back end, the one you said will come untabbed, and it actually didn't? why does it look so much like that whole section should move inward, toward the wheels, to close up the gaps? It looks exactly like that should happen.

Yeah, it's for Bandai's Action Base line for sure. I'm surprised that's what they went with, rather than the butt port you usually see on the official toys
At least the fiddly transformation of the cab/upper body creates a fairly cohesive look but that definitely does not extend to the legs. So much work just for them to still look messy and unfinished.
Oh but its not just a red-and-blue truck, its a red-and-blue-AND-WHITE truck, the best colour scheme for Optimus IMO.
This figure is honestly gorgeous in both modes, and really well priced (especially considering the parts count) but that transformation just does not seem fun to me.
I got mine yesterday. It looks great and I love it but the transformation is not fun, like Emgo said it ain't frustrating but isnt fun either. That being said after transforming it a few times I find 01 Studio Cell's transformation fun and I've only transformed this guy once so that opinion might change after I do it a few more times. Who knows?

been watching transformers again, and instantly thought of emgo, glad i found this channel again, good times watching it when i was younger and seeing him still making videos
I love the design and I like that most of it is unpainted plastic, so you don't have to worry about paint chipping during the transition. But it could be the size that puts me a bit off. I'm having some trouble with the CE-01 Bumblebee and I'm happy I've got this version and not the Transcraft one, because it's bigger. I don't mind a fiddly transformers as long as the parts are big enough for me.
this is a dream figure for me. its definitely a little overengineered, you can tell it's a sophomore effort after an upgrade kit, but there is a lot of really good ideas in there

The stand goes to a gundam action base, the larger ones. Like, the adapter is LITERALLY from a gundam kit, and possibly the posable hands look to be using older gundam hands for the mold.

Also, I am surprised emgo didn't say it, but his gun is bloosh compatible. It perfectly fits in the barrel of his gun. Idk if it was intentional or not but yea.
The finished truckbed looks not to clean. So BB Optimus Prime and G1 Prime are still the masters of truckbeds

What's makes this painful for me and not enjoyable is bcos it's plastic that u may break it, I wonder how many hrs of dedication the engineers of these toys gave, just for us to transform it once, then leave it bcos it's pain in the ass to transform

Great review! I love all IDW truck/cab modes. However all of the rear sections of the truck mode suffers from panel envy.
A fun fact is that "The One" is an homage to Optimus Prime's name being translated from Latin. His name is actually Latin, which means "The Greatest One"
Despite its flaws, this looks to be the Prime I've always wanted. Mainline scale, good looking robot and alt mode, good accessories, good articulation, the whole shebang. Price may be a bit of a hiccup, but I've bought worse for more (shamefully).
While I do think it's cool how they could bring out the color on unpainted plastic, I would lose my mind if they made a metallic paint version.
I got mine yesterday and aside from the transformation I love it.

its a shame, this figure is so close to being great but it lacks the polish, no paint, cheap looking plastic, sprue marks all over

Mine didn’t have an x-transbots sticker.

looks like a mode kit which isn’t bad but just an observation
Thought that the whole time. If it wasn't for all the pinned joints, I could easily see this as a model kit you build yourself. I also imagine it would have gotten far more slack as a model kit for much of the engineering used here, too.
That's what I really like about it. Impressive that most of the colors are separate pieces.
the middle plate for the vechicle truck cab reminds me alot of the dark of the moon deluxe class prime in a way cause the middle plate flipped around and became the chest plate of optimus's robot mode.
The idea seems nice, but lack of details n good painting/coloring!

Hey Emgo, long time no see! Great review as always! I appreciate your keeping your composure during real challenging transformations. Robot mode is nice, but truck mode is too long, and should either accommodate the ER or a custom trailer. Transformation, even though mainline also has fiddly bits, seems overdone. That wheel tab should have been metal, and would have broken anyhow. Hey, microwaved hot water might “heal” the stress mark - worked on 1 of mine.

Yeah this figure was a bit of a disappointment to me. It doesn’t really succeed or excel at anything it sets out to do. It’s too big for CHUG, too small for MP, the robot mode is too skinny for the design, the alt mode is a little too wonky in proportions, neither mode looks particularly premium due to the lack of paint, and the transformation is overengineered to the point where it isn’t fun.
This is my favorite Optimus design on account of his modern alt mode with clear vehicle parts on his robot mode, but all of them ended up being faux pieces. The thing is that this Optimus was designed not to need faux parts. The windows were meant to stay in one piece, the grille didn’t need to shrink, and the lights and vents weren’t different enough to warrant completely different pieces for robot mode. And in the end, I feel the faux pieces just led to a worse transformation and less accuracy in both modes.
I hope another designer tries to make a figure of this design because it really deserves a good figure.

Slide-omus Prime. This figure is certainly not "The One" I'd choose to get, but I can see the appeal for that aesthetic. Just make sure you've got that lower panel tabbed in on the side facing outward on display.

Holiday Optimus came with an adapter that moves the peg on ER Prime's trailer back for more conventional trailer hitches like the one on Holiday Optimus. Said adapter also comes off rather easily, so if you want ER Prime's trailer to look a bit better on this, try that adapter.

Yo Em just watched an old episode you did with Gaia Unicron, the robot mode looked great but the alt-mode meh.. The armour mode might have looked better on R.I.D. Prime, but we're not going to know lol
I think that piece is for Bandai Gunpla Action Base stands, they usually have a interchangeable plug-in pieces (of different dimensions and shapes) much like that that attach with a 5mm-ish port.
Looks okay in robot mode, but the plastic quality looks a cheap IMO. If someone has one in hand (besides emgo), please let me know if it's better in hand.

Hey emgo, the design is nice but has its issues. One thing that sticks out to me the most is how far back that hitch is. Too bad since they use sliders on the rest of the fig that area could slide further up and peg into the top of the legs. Otherwise it's a decent figure. Keep up the great work and videos. BTW when will mascot be doing another review? Lol
That truck complaint is actually accurate to how the truck was drawn in the comics.
@@LaneBassingthwaite thanks for the correction. I wasn't aware of this version of idw ops truck mode. After looking at a couple pictures online. The truck mode does appear to look like that. Thanks. Been awhile since I read the comics.
The alt mode is definitely an afterthought. The wheelbase is way too long, it looked awkward as all get out with the trailer and all that empty space.
Combiner Wars Optimus (who the design seemed to originally be for), at least has somewhat consistent proportions in alt mode.
This figure is based off of the design from the “Optimus Prime” comics. From what I found the truck is actually drawn like that.
