Amazing that the Peru coach complained that Canada was too physical after the match. They should have finished the game with 9 men and I would love to hear from the VAR why the head-butt did not warrant a straight red. I can only think the officials were incompetent or paid off.

It is inexcusable for the referee to make such an openly biased call in this day and age. The football world hounded the referee who missed Maradona's "hand of God" goal. That was indeed a difficult transgression to catch. Yet, he was sent packing shortly after. How can ref Escobar be allowed to continue in his capacity? What recourse do Canada and CONCACAF have to have the match officials investigated? Shrugging it off will only encourage this openly biased officiating to continue. There must be consequences for the ref and the VAR team

In 2014 World Cup when URU Luis Suarez bit ITA Chellini, the ref missed it. VAR didn’t exist yet.
But FIFA reviewed it after the match and suspended Suarez for 4 months. It was his 3rd bite. The previous two happened on his club teams.
ITA lost that match which was their last chance to advance out of the group stage.
Idk if the ref received any repercussions. Fun fact: He officiated THE 2014 semifinal BRA vs GER.
So FIFA could probably review this Peruvian offence and take disciplinary action against the player.

There need to be reviews of such situations. The rules are not complicated. This is a red card. Why was one not issued. The ref'ing should be reviewed. VAR doesn't even recommend Escobar looks at it? Come on. Refs need to be held accountable in these situations.

An assessor would kick your ass if you did not give that a red card and you would have no recourse if you were able to refer to VAR. It is one thing for a ref to not see something - even with excellent sideline assistants it happens all the time as players can be very cunning with their fouls.
But there is no fallback to ignorance of the foul in this case - he had VAR and did not use it.

    • @jonathanluk4858
      @jonathanluk4858 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@CharlieEbbs let me explain the joke to you.
Zidane got a red card for head butting Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup. It let to France losing the World Cup in penalties.
Now the joke is that in this incident, Johnson was head butted by López but he didn’t get a red card. He only got a warning; therefore, if López didn’t get a red card for head butting, Zidane also should not have gotten a red card. The point being that it should have been a red card but if not, then the most famous instance of a headbutt in a game should be overturned.
Just to be clear, in case you still don’t get the joke, it shouldn’t be overturned, a headbutt is a red card.
I don’t think you get how VAR actually works. If the referee misses it, it’s up to VAR to notify the referee to have a second check. VAR did make the review which is what was shown; however, they didn’t advise the official to review it as well. I’d like to think, with your stated history in football, you should know the how VAR works and if not, I don’t mind teaching you.
Realistically, the official probably didn’t expect it to happen and wasn’t looking for it. When you officiate a game, you’re more likely to catch incidents that you’re actively looking for. It was up to VAR to make the decision for the official to review the recording but they didn’t.
If you don’t want to make a comment about someone, then don’t make it. If you do want to make a comment, the follow through without the bs.
If you haven’t learned anything about how the VAR process works after “hundreds of hours of class time, conferences, meetings, assessments, game experience, etc., you should probably review it because you would also be part of the problem.
As a fan, we can joke about how the refs don’t know what the proper process is and it’s pretty clear that you need to review them.
