  • This was done to help those wanting to remove the stock handguard and install a free float on the DPMS Oracle 308. Please do not criticize video quality as I did this to help anyone who was looking around like me.
    The handguard comes from Monstrum Tactical and it works great!

    Got 12" model
    I used the following video for instructions on install: • DPMS LR-308 Free Float...
    I was able to shoot a 2.5" group at 445 yards after doing this off of bipod and sandbag in the rear shooting prone. Very nice addition.

    Please everyone, when you use a torque wrench, make sure you index it at a 90° angle

    Yeah, we did it. Thanks for the help. Although you don't need to remove the flash suppressor if all you want to do is drop in the rail. We found.

      The Supreme Court has long held that police aren't required to actually know the law, they just have to "believe" they have reasonable suspicion, and the drug war and drunk driving laws allow them to manufacture probable cause to make an arrest. Dirty cops have said for decades "you can beat the rap (the charge in court) but you can't beat the ride (the arrest and imprisonment until you see a judge). They can arrest you and hold you through the weekend for public bubble gum chewing, and then just release you an hour before your court appearance, and it's all lawful and due process in modern America. The officer just has to say, "Oh, that's not illegal? Golly, I didn't know that."

    Wipe the threads before last torque and use aeroshell grease.

    Great video. Thank you for the help. I have my UTG PRO coming in the mail. Hoping my existing gas block works on mine. What torque wrench would you advise me getting? Also, what size pin punch for the block?

    • @paulplauche7779
      @paulplauche7779 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luke Phillips I’m sorry I don’t remember the size of the pin punch - but you can get an assorted pack at Harbor Freight for $10. I think Autozone will let you borrow a torque wrench for free ;-)

    Just an idea would it have been easier to remove gas block before removing the handguard as it would relieve pressure off handguard it should pop off a little easier?

    What armorers wrench did u use to remove barrel nut? I’m looking into buying one but don’t want to get the wrong one.

  • @cnw4x4
    @cnw4x4 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I could be wrong, but aren’t you supposed to have the barrel nut wrench 90° to the torque wrench? Worked on helicopters and that’s what we were taught. Great video though.

    • @paulplauche7779
      @paulplauche7779 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      cnw4x4 I’m not sure about that. I used the Monstrum tactical video as a guide. They may have mentioned that. Thanks for the feedback

    • @rifleshooterchannel208
      @rifleshooterchannel208 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cnw4x4 The official military armorer manual shows everything in line. I’ve always done it that way and never had any issues.
      Not to mention you will very nearly always meet the minimum torque spec with this type of handguard as you will nearly always have to give additional torque on the barrel nut to get the gas tube hole to line up.

    • @Alexander-qd7nj
      @Alexander-qd7nj 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rifleshooterchannel208 you're supposed to attach it at 90 degrees to achieve proper torque. Good practice for any application

    • @rifleshooterchannel208
      @rifleshooterchannel208 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Big Hoss I understand that I am just pointing the practice as illustrated by the US Military Manual.
      Thought they very well might’ve took that into account when using the official NSN armorer tools and figured the torque specs in-line with the wrench = whatever the desired torque specs are with the wrench at a 90.

      With a range of 30-80 ft lbs it doesnt matter, esp when he has the torque wrench set at 30.

    You can shim the barrel with stainless steel sheet stock, polishing feedramps are fine but if your getting moa accuracy why do it?

    Don't you just love it when these people make these videos and you get drunk from trying to watch them because the camera jumps all over the place. It would also be nice if they would talk where you can here them. I could hardly here with the sound all the way up.

    Could you change out the barrel for any AR-10 barrel out in the market ?

    • @trentspears9118
      @trentspears9118 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only if it is the correct pattern-- DPMS/LR-308/AR-308 is the most common, Armalite/AR-10 is more pricey and less likely to work with aftermarket parts

      Ron Skelton terribly sorry. It did improve consistency and I shot a 5 shot 3.5” group at 450 yds using hornady match ammo. I shoot off of a bipod and there is no POA shift. Always dead on.

    Hoping this helps some of you watching this that have never learned to properly use a torque wrench with a crow's foot or adapter. To get the proper torque, you MUST keep the torque wrench at 90 degrees to the plane of rotation. If you use it straight out, as this fellow did, you will over-torque your nut by extending the length of the torque radius. This is tools 101.

  • @tomasbures9158

    Torqued to wrong spec... when you use any side extension with torque wrench do it at 90° angle.

    Lapping the receiver next time you have the barrel off greatly improves accuracy on these DPMS rifles.
