This is my favorite among DQ series! That time leaping back n fort type of story telling is one of the best that I've seen, aside from of course Chrono Trigger! Plus I can't remember how long I've played this back in early 2000's.
I first played a Dragon Quest game back when the franchise operated in North America under the name Dragon Warrior. Square Enix retired the Dragon Warrior name starting with Dragon Quest VIII, the first Dragon Quest game to be released in Europe.
1:13:55 is one of my favorite tracks even the part that comes in the song at 1:15:35 it scares me there and 1:07:44 is so romantic reminds me of being nice to someone you love
the game was the first one i played on console, after dragon quest monsters. loved square enix so much. or just enix or whatever. these green/yellow heroes are my fav. tori and horii at their finest and of course the composer koichi sugiyama still hear these tunes in my head
I actually like the japanese subtitles of the games more than the western ones. In Japan, 7 is called "Eden no Senshi Tachi"/ "Warriors of Eden", or 8 that is "Sora to Umi to Daichi to Norowareshi Himegimi" / "The Sky, the Ocean, the Earth and the cursed princess"
Den sus there were some songs like the casino one that were used in VIII also. A few other ones. I was wondering why I didn’t hear certain songs in DQVIII’s soundtrack it’s because they were already first done in earlier versions. I understand now.
DQ VIII’s soundtrack is still my favorite so far with DQVII and DQ11 being tied at second place. I love this. Whatever Sugiyama and Toriyama are apart of is just awesome! Thanks for this post! definitely got inspired so much.
I thought it was interesting how the Torneko spinoff game made it to the PS1, but not Dragon Warrior IV (which was shown to be released in DW VII’s manual booklet).
Much as I love genuine orchestration, I gotta say the synth OST that everyone outside of Japan got wasn't THAT bad. Tbh I feel like the difference is more jarring overall with DQVIII and XI than VII. Also, Shadow of Death 2's opening kinda scared the piss out of me the first time I heard it lmao
I agree as well Sean, I almost prefer the synth version of “World of the Strong” and others to their orchestrated counterparts. Don’t get me wong, the symphonic suite renditions are amazing, but I have a special place in my heart for the original. Also I’m not so fond of this performance of the soundtrack. I prefer the earlier Symphonic Suite release (not designed for the DS game) by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra which is available below: th-cam.com/play/PLhdWViYE-gnkQObBY-2WdkSCAMOg3p93W.html
@@excrono That's pretty neat, actually--and makes sense. A lot of times standalone suites sound better than the OSV. I've been studying music by ear for years, so I tend to notice these things, too.
@@saigancat In Dragon Quest XI, the song “With Sadness in Heart” was first used in the quest involving Michelle, a mermaid with ties to the town Lonalulu. It was more prominently used during Act 2 in Arboria.
This is totally unrelated to the soundtrack, but have you given any thought about wrangling together members of the Den to do another episode of Slime Time? There's so much more news in the DQ world now to make for plenty of content.
I think about it sometimes but the only day I can really "schedule" things for now is friday while the kids are at school, and that's my precious DQVII time ;)
I think Tula Dance and Prayer of the Revival sound better on the console. The sound of plucked strings is more appealing than violin & flute replacement.
One of the greatest sounding and gameplay experience of my life ! At start the musics felt weird to me, but more I moved forward in the game, more I fell in love with them !
This is alright, but I can't be the only one who likes the non-orchestrated soundtrack better. Even if that were so, it'd still be nice to have access to it; I can't find it anywhere on the internet.
Yes, he holds quite a few controversial views on Japanese involvement in WW2, but I think either most people are oblivious or don’t let it detract from his ability as a composer.
unfortunately, he has quite a bit of weight to throw around. from what i remember hes had politicians appear with him and espouse anti-lgbt and pro-nationalist revisionist nonsense. A worrying amount of people hold his views in high regard, and many people refuse to criticize him because he writes good music. its definitely possible for good artists to be miserable people (wagner, for example - amazing composer who was a filthy anti semite) and he should be mercilessly scrutinized whenever possible. people with his amount of clout should not be given a free pass.
These are great songs but since dragon quest 7 is such a long game and you're mostly hearing a few of these songs repeated, I find them pretty annoying after having played
I can understand why this game would be really unpopular in the west, but those were the best hundreds of hours I ever spent.
This game is just like a metaphor for growing up... It's amazing
I've played other DQ games but none have come that close to this one
the best jrpg of all times
it was originally supposed to be for the N64 but Enix should have jumped shipped like Square did with the development of FFVII
BlackWeasel Limited space on carts costed Nintendo a lot of exclusives and it was for the better.

one of my favorite OSTs. its so much sadder and more melancholy than most dragon quest soundtracks...

28:04 a true masterpiece
1:32:44 To That Distant Sky.
A true masterpiece, Kōichi Sugiyama it's a pure Legend.
This song makes me in stasis.
Agreed. Best song in the game imo.
With Sadness In Heart - so classic and powerful. Love the use of it in XI also... 😭
Would be awesome to get this on SWITCH along with DQ9

BEST GAME EVER MADE, TOOK ME +150 HOUR TO FINISH, A MASTERPIECE
What were you doing for it to take 250+ hours? It took me almost exactly 100 hours.

This and 8 truly are the best. 3DS is a great way to play with orchestral patches. Modded 3DS ftw!
Started playing this on 3DS and it is so good. Definitely for people with patience.
22:35好き
Sucks we didn't get the orchestrated soundtrack but the one we got is still pretty good
Kyle Sanderson was that only available on the PSOne version?
No, the 3ds was just not capable of handling the filesize for audio. And no, the PSX version didn't have it either for similar reasons.
I prefer the older version, but, just while i'm playing
I agree. These songs are so filled with life and color. The midi ones are good but hearing it live is so warm and delightful
tcrpgfan That's bullshit. Sugiyama who is the composer is very strict when it comes to his music and didn't let Nintendo use it.
1:13:55 is one of my favorite tracks even the part that comes in the song at 1:15:35 it scares me there and 1:07:44 is so romantic reminds me of being nice to someone you love

1:51:44 + that sunset shot after 100 hours is truly a beautiful moment
Definitly my favorite soundtrack of the serie.
I hope DQVIII remake gets its orchestrated soundtrack back, that was one of my favourate things about it.
from what i've heard it won't unfortunately, sugiyama is a very big copyright guy.
Well, we all know how that went.

This has to have the best ST for any DQ game.
Dragon Quest V would like to have a word with you... This is in my top 3, but 5s score is a masterpiece.

Some of the songs in Dragon Quest VII were reused in Dragon Quest XI, such as “With Sadness in Heart.”
Yeah, most of DQXI's soundtrack was from previous titles.
