New 2022 Subaru WRX - Interior, Exterior, and Driving
The fifth-generation Subaru WRX all-wheel-drive is finally here. It debuted today with a new look both inside and out, as well as a new platform and engine. At first glance, the car appears to be quite familiar, but Subaru made several changes to improve its performance beyond simply adding more power. In addition, for 2022, the automaker will introduce a new top-of-the-line GT trim.
The WRX gains only 3 horsepower for 2022. The new model is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine that generates 271 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The previous WRX had a 268-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. You have the option of a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
A new GT model (shown in gray) is now available, with adaptive dampers with comfort, normal, and sport drive modes, suede Recaro front seats with red stitching, and 18-inch matte gray wheels wrapped in summer rubber. An STI model with around 400 horsepower is also expected to join the lineup soon.
The new car's interior is centered on an 11.6-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The previous model had a 6.5-inch screen as standard, with an optional 7.0-inch screen as an option. The new WRX, like the previous model, has a black interior with red stitching and carbon fiber accents, as well as an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
Subaru hasn't released pricing information, but the 2021 model starts at slightly more than $27,000. The price may rise slightly, but we do not anticipate a significant increase. With the new WRX finally here, we can shift our focus to anticipating the hotter WRX STI variant. According to rumors, it will be released next summer.
