      The Toyota Celica was built with no rules, for the unlimited Pikes Peak category. The F1 GTR Long tail did have to adhere to rules and it being air restricted it puts out 28hp LESS than the road version of the F1. Also, BMW got 786hp out of the same engine without air restrictor in the X5 V12. So, if the owner of the F1 GTR Long tail you see here wanted, they could have 187hp more.

      +SRAMEK, This is actually considered a GT car, not a prototype.

    • @bujfvjg7222
      @bujfvjg7222 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      SRAMEK The F1 wasn't a Le Mans prototype. It was a GT1 class car, and only car in history to beat a full field of prototyes (LMP) and win not just the GT1 class, but the overall win, win on it's first outing and in coming 1st 2nd 4th and 5th. Many people completely forget these facts, and favour the Ferrari F40 as the best supercar ever made, well....look at the F40s 'dismal' performances in all Motorsport, then realise the utter astonishment of the achievements the McLaren F1 made!
      Without air-restrictors the McLaren F1 engine (S70/2 & S70/3, the latter being 65cc the lesser) made 787HP, as can be seen from the BMW X5 V12.

    • @SRAMEK
      @SRAMEK 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bujf vjg I know, it wasn't pure LMP car and back in the time, the differences between the GT1 class and the LMP was very little, so yes, it's a great achievement to win the overall race with a GT1 class car, but not as much as it could seem.
      Calling it Le Mans prototype may sound a bit different that I meant it. The original F1 of course isn't Le Mans prototype, but the Long Tail version could by called a Le Many prototype in fact, because the road legal version was build only the allow the racing version to track as it was part of the rules back in the days.
      But don't take me bad, the Mc F1 is one of the greatest cars in history and for me even much more interesting the the F40, which is gorgeous as well, but the F40 is more about the feel of driving, the Mc is about what the people can really achieve with technology, it's the same with Veyron, which is now discredited by fanboys, but the fact behind a car, that could be called something close to a GT with the amount of performance and what they had to create to be able to build the car, astonishing.

    I also heard that the design of the Long Tail was Influenced by McLaren hiring a Jaguar XJ220 designer (forgot names) to collaborate on the F1 GT Longtail roadcar design. So XJ220 and F1 GT do share some common traits (design-wise).

    • @Danlolwtfbbq
      @Danlolwtfbbq 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Probably because Kenny Brack is using all of the engine's revs unlike a lot of gentlemen drivers that own these now. That, and the reverb around Goodwood may change the pitch. One of the greatest sounds in the world of cars, for sure.

    • @ZeroneAngel

      Mark R Long tail body prototype car with race exhaust. Not to be compared with the "standard"(wierd word considering the car lol) exhaust.

    • @joemama7031
      @joemama7031 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ZeroneAngel I thought it had to do with the exhaust. Most of the F1 GTRs had lower sounding engines, and I'm pretty sure all F1 GTRs have the same S70 V12

    • @bujfvjg7222
      @bujfvjg7222 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mark R All the short tail GTRs had S70/2 engines but the Long tail GTRs had S70/3 engines being slightly de-stroked to 6 litres (for FIA rule changes). The S70/3 with no air-restrictors makes 787HP, as can be seen from the BMW X5 V12 and the BMW LM and LMR (when unrestricted). The S70/2 having an extra 64cc would be slightly more powerful without air-restrictors.
