Oddie and friends. I lived in a house in upstate New York. A mansion built per American revolution. One night I woke up to the sound of laughter and tinkling glasses. I was wide awake.
My first thought was that my son was watching TV downstairs on a school night. I went down and saw all in darkness. A visit to the children's room showed both boys sleeping in their beds. This happened a few more times. In the freezing cold I learned to ignore them!

You two aren't alone!! Boy is preoccupied property stressful. I'm more sensitive and alert than anyone in my family....even my mother. My brothers and I often find ourselves sharing tales that we never knew each was aware of. Seems as though every house we lived in was already rented or leased. Boy, the stories we have.

Friend of mine told of the father of her kids leaving her for a 17-year-old girl. He paid no child support. One day he came over to her house wearing a new leather jacket and driving an expensive new car. They had some words and he left. He got into his flashy new car and shut the car door. One second later, the windshield spontaneously shattered for no apparent reason. He was left sitting stunned in a pile of glass in the driver's seat. Sometimes the universe takes revenge for you.

I can understand it as my father in law from Liveroool couldn't wait to leave England. He hated the cold weather and loved the Australian weather and lifestyle too. This must have been so hard for you Oddie. England's gain with you was certainly Australia's loss that's for sure. From yet another Aussie here down under.

When I was 3 years old I had an experience that I cannot really truly explain. I was wide awake, I had a soothing voice speak to me. I was calm but frightened. This voice was deep but made me feel that this might be a dream but I know that it wasn’t. I have remembered this event all my life but always have convinced myself it was nothing but a child’s imagination. I ran into my parents room yelling there is a ghost in room. So difficult to express on how I felt but it was so enticing and so real even as a child, cannot really explain but it did happen..

I remember my mother telling me a story my brother told her. He was around 11, 12. Mom, rest of the family were inside the Church, was a Sunday afternoon (not even sure if I were born yet, as he's one of my older brothers, I have 7). My brother was outside alone, playing by a tree that was located on church grounds. When he said something appeared and started chasing him around and around the tree they went until he managed to run away thru the church doors, hysterical as you could imagine. What was it, he told them it was the Devil himself. Not sure what you believe as far as the religious realm! But I do believe in possessions. Needless to say, my mother was/is a very religious woman. She made sure whatever "it" was wouldn't bother her family again.
I just started part 1, of your haunting. SO excited.. Will report back - on part 3, that is. As always, thanks for sharing your story. It's not always easy to let others in when revealing supernatural occurrences, so I 👏 you.

Hello Oddie...I grew up in a house with spirits about also. The house was around a century old when we moved in and of course my parents had done a remodel,so the house came to full life with the disturbance. Some of the activity was from gentle apparitions, but we did have one that was a bit troublesome. It hovered in the corner of my mother's sewing room and did not like anyone in the upstairs region of the house.Too long a story for here, but to conclude...I do understand what it is like to have spirits hovering about in your abode.

I grew up in a haunted house, or rather, the property was haunted. In the barn there was a little storage room that sometimes creeped me out--I would go in but I couldn't stay in there. And sometimes, I felt very strongly that I was being watched when I went into the barn to play on a swing my dad had set up. On those occasions, my cat, who liked to follow me in, would not stay no matter what.
The whatever it was came into the house once when I was alone and although I didn't see it, it came up behind my chair. I could feel it. I was so scared I wouldn't go in that room again by myself for WEEKS. But it didn't feel "bad." Maybe the poor ghost was just lonely. :(

The beginning of your story made me think of a visit we had from some of our Australian family in January 1966. They brought their 15 year old son Rhett, who nearly froze to death in our horrible winter weather. He missed his mates and the beach and all the poor guy had here were some much younger cousins and the movies. They eventually went home and Rhett was joyful, I’m pleased to say we still keep in contact via email and Facebook. Occasionally I look at a photo of him in a gigantic overcoat he had purchased from an Army and Navy store. Bless. I must get him to access your fab tales and stories.

loved this video, and when you explained the scratching in the ceiling and how you father went up to attic to clear the birds/animals I could RELATE, why, because the same thing happened to me as a child, odd scratching above my room, like a critter sometimes reminded me of someone dragging something as well. It went on for sometime and told my dad it kept me up at night, they heard it, it was only above my room, I remember he and the neighbor (older man) took a ladder and proceeded to go up to the attic through my closet, nothing was there, nothing, no animals, no birds no nest!! the sound continued then went away after some time. There were other things....but this wasn't an old house, not at all, probably 12 years old when it occured.

Such a great storyteller you are! You don't go into long, drawn out details, just enough to give an idea for the minds eye. And as many have already said, your voice and accent are so soothing and fun to listen to. I'm excited to hear the rest of this story!

That’s very kind of you, I try to imagine how I would like to hear a story told, the majority here on TH-cam I just could not listen to.

Hi Oddie...Ive been awaiting your next installment! This is a great story and Im off to check out Part 2. This beginning has given me some flashbacks. I was to raised in the country and the hous made these walking and creaking noises amoung other things that were unexplainable. When we were downstairs we would hear someone walking around upstairs. When we were up we would hear all kinds of crashing noises ..things moving noises that to this day cant be explained. The older I got the creepier it got! There was something there!

I always think of Wurthering Heights. I also think.of the Geordie accents and even for me they are very difficult to understand. Newcastle in particular. lol

I was born in a house built in the early years of the 1800's, on a hill. There were fields where crops were raised and cattle grazed but beyond that nothing but deep woods for miles. We were 9 miles from the nearest neighbor. Doors opened and shut by themselves. Even when locked and bolted. Windows as well. You could see the bolt sliding back, the door knob turning. No one who came to visit would stay after dark, but I still loved my home. It was all I had ever known. My home is gone now but I still go there, in my dreams.

I've just started to watch this series of videos. it's very enthralling, and in your usual style, one feels both the mystery and a deep sense of creepiness as the story moves along. I get the sense that you were quite a curious child, and easily able to be immersed in your own world (I'm not sure if that's the case, but it's something I can relate to). I'm curious, do you think your fascination with historical mysteries and oddities - the unseen and the unknown - stemmed from personal experiences like this one? Anyway, I'm on to part 2. :)

I can't wait for part two! I don't think I could stay in such a house. I mean I've seen and heard things myself but I could never live in a haunted house.
