John Smith children don't generally ride down hills at 50+mph. Would you ride a motorcycle at 50+ mph with no helmet?

Why do you think PCSO's and Police wear helmets on bikes? to set a good example for the public. I was born in the Netherlands and now living in uk no matter where I would cycle I always were my helmet

giro isn't sitting right on your head...my giro fits just like your poc...without straps it is snug on my head...important that people get a helmet that fits right and don't forget to wear it

Thanks for spreading the awareness. It's very important to always where a helmet when you're on a bike, motorcycle, ATV, anything that you operate yourself where you aren't surrounded by a cage (e.g. a car).

My helmet saved me from cracking my forehead open a couple months ago and going over the handle bars. First thing I asked when I woke in an ambulance was, where the fuck is my helmet?!
Long story short, I dont care if I look like a doofus wearing a helmet around my friends, I know that if anything happens, I have some layer protection that may save me from a serious brain injury.

Tyler, POC might have a Crash Replacement policy, you could've availed of.
I basically Tombstone Piledrivered myself and cracked my Evade. Specialized replaced it for 40% off.
Using your head as a brake pad is not recommended.

In the netherlands you rarely have to share the road with other vehicles and people aren't racing :)

    • @tonym5878

Actually, a good percentage of bike lanes are in the street riding along with traffic. However, in the Netherlands the motorists are much more educated about sharing the road and bikes have the right of way.

So true, when I rock this helmet I feel very comfertable to, with my last helmet I crashed, and I had a horrible concussion, and my head was all road rash. So I was like, mom, I need a new helmet. And we both decided to take this. IT ROCK'S!

POC helmets fit and feel great. I have a white orange one that looks cool but still some safety colors. Your black helmet looks sleek and “fast”.
I like the more expensive helmets for the R&D and they make them look cool. If they look good, I’ll be more likely to wear it/so I wear it all the time

Good to see the POC saved your mellon. I use them from my days skiing when they designed the helmet that was one impact only. i had a crash which caused 14 fractures through the helmet and like you i walked it off, no doubt the best lid getting around cost can't quantify the safety that these lids have.

Last year I got t-boned by a car and fell down hitting the road sideways (the guy didn't even offer assistance). My giro savant was totally broken, and I ended up with a sore head and a very sore neck plus the usual roadrash. Had I not been wearing my helmet I'd spend a few days in hospital. Now I always wear a helmet, even when cycling just around the block.

I crashed on my way to work. Slow speed and the last turn before I was there. My frontwheel got caught on some road damage and It just slipped away instantly. I broke my ellbow, cheekbone and my eyesocket tot shattered. The thing is: It could have been so much worse. Some years ago I started wearing a met parachute because I slipped in the rain, also on a corner and scraped my chin a bit on the pavement. I needed some stichtes and got a light concussion so that got me thinking. I then got hit by a car wearing the first gen met parachute and only got a scratch on my chin. Ribs hurt like hell tho. Later I got the next gen one which I crashed as mentioned before. Also got a concussion there, but I didnt break my jaw and lost no teeth, which might have happened. So then i replaced that with a fox proframe which I still wear during city rides. Light and pretty comfortable. I do also have a normal giro helmet which I wear when I train or go touring because I cant drink with the fox one and it is too heavy for long rides and it is not aero at all. But I wish I could.

Riding into town I don't wear a helmet. Brought down recently by mad motorist caused grazing and badly dislocated fingers. Made me think what if head had got it, but can't bear to wear my road helmet for town visits. Your idea of a less formal lid for leisure rides makes sense, especially considering that my forced landing WAS in town . Gotta think of our families if our noggins get cracked open ! Better a new lid.

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

The Aero version obviously is not too concerned with ventilation, but it vents WAY better then it looks. I have climbed in 110 heat and it didnt seem a lot different then my fully vented giro.

  • @drouleau

Years ago, I went down at around 22 mph and my head bounced off the ground, sort of like how you went down (except I hit a white rock on the white line on the road and Superman'ed it when my front wheel buckled).....had a Giro Atmos......I didn't think I hit my head that hard (my helmet didn't look anywhere near as bad as yours), but had a pretty good concussion from it. Got hit by a car nearly head-on at 25 mph a few years later with a newer Atmos II helmet, no concussion, but fortunately I didn't really hit my head. Just bought a new POC AVIP MIPS :), I'm retiring the Giro line.

hey bruh - stupid question but your hair looks awesome. I tried various products but my hair would always fall to the front or to the side.. should i use a pre-styler? before air-drying? Or how do you get your hair look so nice and dry.. i dont like the wet look

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

LOL thanks bro! My hair is real struggle though. Its SUPER thick, so I use thinning shears to keep it light. Otherwise when I use product I have to use so much that it looks wet. I use an ultra dry wax/pomade type product that works well.
Kinda gross, but I dont condition my hair. I wash it, but If I use conditioner it strips the natural oils and my hair looks like a poof ball. Also, I go to the barber twice a year to have them rework the layout, so most of the time my hair just lays like this on its own.

I've fallen like a lot, never once has my helmet done anything... I've fucked up my neck a few times, broke a shoulder blade, shattered kneecap, broken wrists... never once have I ever hit my head.
even if I did, the skull plate is the hardest bone in the body, it's been known to occasionally deflect bullets. but, the spine it's connected to is fragile as shit... wear a neck brace, not a helmet.

  • @vinnieg3364

+Brent Lalonde Normally there is the production date inside of the helmet. In our bike lesson we say 3-5 years.
So If you buy a new helmet check out for date. It is possible to find an 'old' helmet which stayed for many years in stock.
Don't buy it. Oxidation makes helmets weaker.

  • @StarsandGuitars100

Wasn't a fan of POC - thought they looked odd. But can totally see what you mean about the extra protection. I like their Aero approach of the one vent trapping the air under the helmet and channeling it through and out the back - I like it. Think I'll give them a try! Oh, did they have a free crash replacement program or did you just buy a new one? Another great vid!

I've had a couple of big knocks to the head and I've thrashed two helmets thus far. I still use them both though, one for small commutes and casual riding and the other for mountain biking as I feel the force of an impact in a MTB crash isn't as great as that in a road crash. I'd like to buy a new MTB helmet though, it does make me feel uneasy to be riding with a helmet that has four clear cracks straight through it.

okay "technically" is not the right word for use in this vlog. The test for helmets is set to approximately 21km. A helmet should compress and slow the head down before it impacts the ground. if it breaks it has lost its ability to de-acelerate the head. I agree fit is important, but to say one helmet is better than another can only be done with controlled testing.

I'm from England and hardly see anyone wear a helmet . I always wear a helmet no matter how long I'm cycling for it's just better like when I was younger in a different country my brakes suddenly stopped working when I hit a rock and I went over the handlebars down a hill and my helmet broke due to this but I only ended up with scars. U never know when something could happen. It's just odd not to wear a helmet as all my parents do as well and my brother decided too recently.

If you've ever witnessed a child fall of their bike at slow speed and crack their head on a kerb you'll wear a helmet. Everything is ok until....

The government agencies that test lids need to do more than just a ball peen hammer drop test. Good point about the side impact protection. Yup!

well that giro helmet seems to be to small. It does not fit your head at all. Anyway good that you are fine and the helmet did it's job!

Why would POC replace your helmet for free?

PlantTheSeed they want you to be loyal to them? He obviously shared that with us and now hundreds of people heard that they're a stand up brand and take care of their people.

Maybe if you know how to fit your helmets with either the sizing or the adjustment band at the back of like all helmets these days yours wouldn't slide around like your giro. I own a Octal X / Octal X spin and a KASK valegro

dude what are you doing, wear your god damn helmet every single time you ride. I assume you are vegan for moral reasons. I think morally it is wrong to not wear your helmet because it will hurt those around you and will leave your family without a husband and father. I say this because I am concerned lol. Seriously though.. literally no good reason not to wear a helmet.
