Suikoden V is my fave too, but it's easy if you level up skills and sharpen weapons. You can one-shot all random mobs, and even some bosses go down before they can even take one turn... (plus Zerase.)
Suikoden 3 is indeed the hardest in the whole series. Geddoe and his Crew are my all time favourites. I simply love the Banter between them. Geddoe for King :)
I wished they made all the main series timeline closer to each other so we have more recurring characters. That was the reason why S1 & S2 hold a special place in my heart. I’ve only played the main games, S2 and S5 were the most fun for me. S4 felt draggy though, that was the only one I didn’t finish. Toughest for me would be between S2 & S3. S2 killed me more times (probably as I had lesser experience back then), but S3 definitely was more complex due to the 3 characters pov.
Totally agree with Suikoden 3 being the hardest. Great game but battle mechanics were clunky. Not mentioned in the video was rune magic; the enemy can interrupt and stop your spells by attacking you. If you did manage to pull off a spell, you also risk hurting your own party members with friendly fire
In retrospect, I never thought about being a collector at the time I got all the mainline games of the series since I actually sold the first game. My original thought was to just buy them now to play later but work and family still takes up quite a bit of my time. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the 2nd game so much I wanted to get my hands on the translated Chinese texts, “Water Margin”. Can’t wait to go complete this series someday.

I think Suikoden IV is the hardest because it is difficult to look at the protagonist's tiny shorts. It could probably be considered a horror game because those shorts will give players nightmares.

The outpouring of support for the "Eiyuden Chronicle" Kickstarter campaign is an obvious indication that there is a market for Suikoden as a series and as a concept. There are enough fans of Suikoden that Murayama and other OG developers of Suikoden were able to raise over $4 million from fans based on the promise of creating a new game in the spirit of Suikoden. Konami has their head so far up their own ass that they can't see how much money they are sitting on by owning the rights to Suikoden and not making more content for the series.
like your video, because you are a really neutral and calm. my nephew and me found tactics as the hardest, because it is so easy losing chars forever and than you do that battle again to not lose them, and battles take a lot of time. and suikoden 4 final boss is the hardest and frustrating one, even if the rest of the game is not too hard. really nice video, thumbs up :)
For me it's Suikoden III, that's the only one where I had issues with bosses due to the way the characters run around on the map and you don't control all of them. I remember constantly dying on one of the final battles, and it took forever to beat!
Suikoden III gave me trouble with war battles and on the final boss. I tried so many times to beat the final boss and that was a long battle. Such a great game!
I watch most of ericks videos, and the suikoden series is my fav video game series, but I am glad I watched this one because I did not know of the psp English translation. I wish they could revive the series and bring it back to its suikoden 2/5 roots as they were the best by far, doesn't need any complicated or too many new innovations, nor does it need crazy amazing graphics. Combine 2 and 5 together and make some improvements, that's all the series needs!
Great video . Totally agree on Suikoden psp it's worth playing it if you're Suikoden fan but it has no difficulty whatsoever. I would replace Suikoden tierkreis with Suikoden 1 . If you got the best armor on S1 it was so easy
good list, i'd only disagree with the placement of 4. i think having fewer party members makes it a bit more difficult than S1 and S2. I'd say Suikoden is a different kind of beast in regards to difficulty though. You almost need to factor in how difficult it is to recruit all 108 stars since that is half the game. The games are significantly easier when you recruit the better characters with the better runes (rage, thunder, mother earth) and stats. Suikoden 3: Tough boss battles, optional monsters, and setting up a party is difficult since each set of characters are a column that can only cast 1 rune at a time. The war minigame is probably the hardest of the series. it is DEFINITELY hands down the hardest of the series and it isn't even close IMO.
fun list, I agree with a lot of what you said. Though Suikoden 5's active time wars drove me nuts at time. S4's on the other hand were simple since outside of the last navel battle you could always have the advantage in cannon fire. S5 final boss... ok maybe I was to over powered but I killed it in 1.5 rounds. Magic was very OP in that game
I'm currently playing 5 right now and I gotta say it have the best major battle in the series. It's not reliant on rng like 2 and the battle ends faster because it's in real time. Also it's not scripted.
The fight with Yuber and the other antagonists in Suikoden III definitely was tricky for me, but it was not unbeatable. And I only managed to win it because my party was pretty leveled up and fully equipped.
If Ridley dies in Suikoden 2 his son Boris will replace him and take his Star of destiny. And there is one npc in an Inn in one of the town that mention Ridley have a son.
Suikoden II will always be my Favorite, but gameplaywise Suikoden V is the Best Suikoden III is the hardest to me too, because it´s Battle System sucks
I remember Suikoden 1 being rather easy because of Kai-sensei, Tir's master. You get him pretty early in the game and from then on, you have a Unite attack that instantly affects all enemies. Given that Tir is your Main Character and hits hard, this gave all battles a good leg-up. Suikoden 5 was only difficult in the sense that you get so many random encounters and that most characters are fragile. However, if you load up a few frontliners with the best gear and utilize the correct formations, you should be fine. Remember to kill the ranged enemies first. In my opinion, the best Suikoden game would have the story of 2, the War Battles of 5 and the Duels of 5. Remaking Suikoden 2 with updated War and Duels would be epic.
so I was going to comment that I found three rather easy. but that's mostly because of the grinding tools that are available with leveling up magic and specific Tech skills. I do have to admit that the war time events are insane in that game and I think that even the first one I lost once or twice. and that boss that you showed, I lost to that giant Earth monster 4 or 5 times and I thought I was just actively playing the game incorrectly. I haven't played through four yet because I'm waiting for the Pathfinder campaign of suikoden 4 to conclude that I'm going to be playing in soon before I play the game itself. anyway, I love the video and I love the series! I was definitely going to put the first game as the easiest on my list but I also haven't played through four and I haven't beaten any of the side games

They take place in the same universe so there are characters that appear in multiple games but I‘d argue you don‘t HAVE to play them in order.(1, 2 and 3 are more connected than 4 and 5) Also currently there is a spiritual successor in development (eiyuuden chronicles 100heroes). So if you are interested you might look at this.

We (the fandom) are trying to convince Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes developers to develop a varity of modes to play the Suikoden spiritual successor from the very start. Suikoden is known to be an easy series and the developers wants to share that to Eiyuden too, but it seems very likely that we will have a Hard Mode available from the very start, as Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising was too easy and that was one of the biggest flaws of the game. I'm so excited!
I'll advance while i saw the video; Only main title. Easiest to hardest (with some reason). 1. Suikoden 1 2. Suikoden 2 3. Suikoden 4 (not that hard have to be patient on ship sailing though). 4. Suikoden 5 (cause it's longest of all). 5. Suikoden 3 (yes hardest of em all, now i remember how hard the final battle of it like against Yuber).
While I agree Suikoden 3 is the only one that offers any difficulty I personally would rearrange the list a bit. I have soloed every game with main character and would say the 1st game offers the second most challenge just for the fact that the bosses from neclord one tend to cast devastating magic every turn, and they are fast so you need to be proactive or have someone fast like Cleo with water it flowing rune. Neclord is much more powerful and his more hit points than second game. Suikoden 2 and 5 are just way too easy, too much customization you can do. Plus I went back underleveled teams and best Luca pretty easily, I remembered that battle being harder but I guess not. Fives formations really take a lot out of the difficulty as well. But I like your take on the war battles as well. Good video.
Tbh suikoden 2 is easy save for 3 battles the first is optional wich is against rowd the second is with Luca blight the last is the final boss (no I'm not talking about the duel with jowy)
I love Suikoden as a series, but for me every one of the games except for Suikoden 3 is extremely easy. I wiped out in Suikoden 3 five or more times, especially against the turtle boss in Geddoe Chapter 1. The other games were easy if you are at the appropriate level which the game makes sure you are due to the exp system, and if you know which characters are good. I still love the series for it's setting, large cast of characters, large scale battles and political drama. The lack of difficulty in most of the games isn't a problem at all.
No Suikogaiden 1 or 2? 😜 I know, they're visual novels, not RPGs. I think Konami's biggest mistake was moving away from the True Runes and the world building they were doing in the first six games. Hell, we never got a resolution on the whole Pesmerga/Yuber subplot! I would've liked a game where all 27 True Runes got into play for some apocalyptic scenario, but alas!

The hardest suikoden should be the fourth,. The ship navigation and sea exploration alone already enough to made the game hard,, and then the stupid encounter rate on the sea.. even if you are just turning your ship around you could have like two or three battles 🤣
I would say suikoden 1 was easiest I manage to get all 108 stars of destiny first try and beat the final boss with no guides going in blind the hardest is probably 2 getting 108 star of destiny is hard in one play through and the final boss was no joke as well.
The DS one was the only one I ever finished and one of my favorite DS games. I got 1 and 2 digitally on my PS3 but never started them. I found a physical of tactics for a good deal but haven't played that either 😂
All of the games are just missing a post-game dungeon with cranked difficulty, they dont even need to be lore-related. Suikoden IV could have done it in some section of the Obel ruins or under middleport, Suikoden II could have done it in the Sindar ruins by the inn, III could have done it in any number of the unremarkable landmarks (Hei Tou, or behind the tablet of the stars after 108 recruitment) Just hard enemies and bosses is all I would have wanted, the games all have potential to explore its meta-game (which for such easy games is surprisingly deep)
We need a Suikoden remaster pack with all games to play on newer consoles.

the bone dragon can be kill easily if you use wind rune like cyclone on it doing speed run on suikoden 2 is my kinda thing

Yeah, but Ridley's critical hit becomes Boris' evade move in major battles...
Besides, Ridley can only die if you chose to runaway during the Tinto arc.

Suikoden 4 may not be the hardest difficulty wise but it sure was the hardest for me to get through. I love Suikoden but 4 was just... not good.

The hardest suikoden should be the fourth,. The ship navigation and sea exploration alone already enough to made the game hard,, and then the stupid encounter rate on the sea.. even if you are just turning your ship around you could have like two or three battles 🤣
Imo Suikoden 4 is not hard but annoying because of the random encounters and the slow speed of the ship

Every suikoden games are easy enough to beat because all of them have quick xp gain or gold. Maybe Suikoden tactics is the hardest..😀
I would say suikoden 1 was easiest I manage to get all 108 stars of destiny first try and beat the final boss with no guides going in blind the hardest is probably 2 getting 108 star of destiny is hard in one play through and the final boss was no joke as well.
The DS one was the only one I ever finished and one of my favorite DS games. I got 1 and 2 digitally on my PS3 but never started them. I found a physical of tactics for a good deal but haven't played that either 😂

Suikoden III sucks🤦🏿♂️
All of the games are just missing a post-game dungeon with cranked difficulty, they dont even need to be lore-related. Suikoden IV could have done it in some section of the Obel ruins or under middleport, Suikoden II could have done it in the Sindar ruins by the inn, III could have done it in any number of the unremarkable landmarks (Hei Tou, or behind the tablet of the stars after 108 recruitment) Just hard enemies and bosses is all I would have wanted, the games all have potential to explore its meta-game (which for such easy games is surprisingly deep)
