I love the way Dave stays quiet and listens to what Matt has to say and when Dave does speak its totally relevant stuff. That's one thing I always respected about Dave. He's forgotten more about training than most will ever know yet the process of learning more never stops for him.

I needed this video. I've been struggling with my nutrition and sleep and I'm 28 this year. Knew I had to focus on my health and this just made me realize it more.

28 was when my body stopped letting me get away with training like a meathead. 30 now and I can’t believe the difference between 5 years ago and now

I'm 35, just attempting to get back to it, and guess what this is my 4th time trying, and I really needed to hear the first part about train for health first, and strength will follow, that's exactly what I started doing and so far, I like the fact that I don't have that stress of "I need to get stronger" off my back, and I know in due time I'll get back to where I was before my injuries, basically I'm competing with my old self.

I really like what he said about finding your way in I've always been an athlete and when I tried to get my wife into it for her weight loss and health hated it but she started seeing a nutritionist started feeling better and now she loves her workouts her way in was completely different then mine and she's actually really helped me clean my nutrition but that's her way

It is great to see Healthy powerlifters. There is a lot of self destructive behaviors in powerlifting that is a big turn off.

I eat a base of nutritious food but I have to add lots of foods like sweets, gainer powder with milk, pancakes, ice cream etc because if I don’t get those calories in I’ll lose 25lbs of body weight and lose a ton of strength and fullness

Trying to get my kid at 22 yo to eat a little bit cleaner. It's hard. And he's definitely not a hard gainer. He was around 290 at his first meet, and 5 years later, 355.
I disagree with Matt on one thing - more mass does help you lift more weight raw if you're in the SHW category. But you need a lot more mass than just being a few pounds into the SHW category. Sure a few have succeeded that way, but you really need to get into the 370-400lb range to make it work. Look at Ray Williams or Julius Maddox - easily 400lbs plus. The current IPF SHW raw champion, Jesus Oliveras, is around 380 or so. 140kg and below, the extra fat mass doesn't really help (for lifters using PEDs) and probably around 120kg for natty lifters (per Greg Nuckols).
I totally agree with Matt on a lot of strength studies just not having the right cohorts to be that relevant for the advanced lifter.

I think matt was giving that advise to ppl who will live to understand it. Most 350 - 400ibers won't unless they drop some weight as they age.
