Yeah the first 3 Fast movies were borderline great due to being realistic and down to Earth then they devolved into standard over the top action, Fate was the first one I really didn't like at all.

letting things shift between action movie , thriller , etc gives a broader horizon to show of the universe and give breathing room for the characters to develop as far i see it.
The Director's cut went into more detail about Furya. Had that version been released in Theaters, I truly believe the movie would have had far better ratings.

It feels like Riddick, just doesn't give a shit. His race is dead, planet wiped out and nowhere to go. Alone and carrying this much anger and loneliness for decades changes you. It also frees you of ethical and physical concerns. With nothing to lose, it make him very, very dangerous.
The thing I always loved about Riddick is how he’s portrayed as this villain/murderer. While he does kill people, he usually warns them and/or they are trying to kill him. Also, when you look into why he’s even a criminal, he really shouldn’t be. He lowkey actually a good guy, forced to do bad things to survive. I love it. Vin diesel should have done at least one season of a tv series for this. It woulda been great. We honestly need to go to the underverse and furya
A series would've been good. These movies are too few and far between for us to get enough of Riddick's badass-ness. Vin Diesel is getting old and I fear the only thing he'll be good for is voicing the character for more animated features and video games.

It could be wrong but I had heard that Vin Diesel purchased the artistic, commercial products, film and print rights to the Riddic franchise. He loved being the character so much that he wanted to ensure more would happen with the project. By purchasing it and working with his director and writer friend they could ensure a studio would not just put it on a shelf forever.

In the Special Edition of Riddick a deleted scene shows Riddick at the Black Hole that leads to Underverse, so it was a sort of tease that he was going to Underverse to find Vakko so he could finally find the location to Furya. I don't know if they will ever make the conclusion but it would be pretty cool if they did.
It was planned that they would go to the underverse in 1 or 2 movies after Chronicle but that may have been atleast partially changed because fans wanted movies more like Pitch Black. The way I remember the article, or interview or whatever it was, came across it sounded like Riddick would lead necromongers to the underverse. I'm not a big fan of creators caving in to what fans want but in the case of Riddick it does work better as a slow suspenseful action then all out action.
This franchise is awesome!! You should have included how Riddick got his eyes as was told in The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. This game was incredible.
The 4th movie, Furya, already has a competed script, and according to Vin Diesel in an interview promoting F9, the 4th movie is close to starting filming.
This 4th new riddick movie NEEDS to be made, we need and want to see him finally reach furier and possibly find more survivors previously thought to be dead.
Looks like this only covered the theatrical release of the films. I might be biased but I'd recommend the directors cut of The Chronicles of Riddick and the extended version of Riddick.
Riddick was in theaters? I never heard of it until I was scanning the digital TV guide and came across it, probably back in 2016 or 2017 . At first I thought they just dropped Chronicles of on the guide for some reason then I read the description and realized it was different.
One of my favorite sci fi franchises to this day. Even as small as it is. It has this gothic horror to it as well, which I like. I just wish we had books, maybe a mini series, and more games to expand the universe. While we wait for another film that is debatable for release.

Pitch Black - Probably the best, yes. Good sets, great plot, great cast, excellent execution. Excellent sci-fi fantasy thriller. Chronicles of Riddick - Frickin excellent sets, can't say enough about that aspect. Really made you feel like you were on alien planets in insane situations. Crazy weird plot with regard to the Necromongers. Decent execution. Over all, not a terrible movie, and exceptionally quotable. "Irgun. One of my best." "If you say so." _smirk_ Riddick - This indeed was very similar in too many ways to Pitch Black, but it also had elements of that crazy gift these movies have for capturing hostile alien worlds on film. I liked it. I liked the extra touches involving Riddick's recovery from almost dying, slowly healing in a world bent on killing him a dozen different ways. Excellent sets, largely repetitive plot, good execution. "You keep what you kill, Riddick!! You keep what you kill!!" I love all of these movies in their own unique ways, and I'm endlessly disgusted at how we have only three Riddick movies and soon there will be TEN Fast and Furious movies. I'll grant you that Vin Diesel nails it as Dom, but he's an _exceptional_ Riddick. People that haven't seen these are truly missing out. Sucks sometimes to live in a society where dumb, repetitive race car bullshit is somehow VASTLY more interesting than some of the best sci fi fantasy action. Humanity needs to take a break from growing egos and hormones for two seconds to grow some brains to appreciate something truly creative.

Wouldn't there be a massive uprising against Vako if he were the Lord Marshall if Riddick showed up? I mean "you keep what you KILL" is the rule, right? He would be made Lord Marshall by telling people he killed the previous Lord Marshall, who was Riddick. So if Riddick were to show up alive, then it would stand to reason that Vako should at the very least be stripped of his Lordship?
-Any Necromonger film would fail they are too stupid to survive. -Any Furya movies cant have Vin as he was the last known Furyan. -Dark Athena was a cartoon not a game, the game was Escape from Butcher Bay put some respect on its name. -What we need is more of the elementals that may have prophesied Riddick's coming. - a second stealth based game would be great but idk if that would save the franchise.
Vin Diesel was able to do the trick with the handcuffs holding a chain behind his back but not with cuffs so it was CGI in the film. At one point they couldn't get the Contacts off his eyes with the heat and had to fly in an Optometrist to remove them. They were gonna kill him off at the end of the first and bring back Carolyn in a new movie, but Fave line from the short animations on the website for the movie, I don't mind a little pain, it reminds me I'm alive!
Yeah the first movie was always planned to be about Carolyn but over the course of filming they decided Riddick was a cooler character and decided to keep him instead. I wonder if maybe they filmed him not saving one of the kids before that decision then when they decided to keep him they had him save Jack, it's probably not a good idea to have the character you want to bring back shown as completely uncaring especially to an inmovie fan who wants to be him.
It was the elemental that put the bounty not iman. Elion prime forces were searching house to house looking for a supposed spy, remember that wen riddick arrived on elion prime he destroyed one of the planet defence strike craft. The knife on the necromancer back was already there before iman was killed. The Lord Marshall says one of his best not his best. Riddick doesn't gets out from the device by himself, the purifier, a furyan himself, releases Riddick. The necromancer ship is a troop dropship, they call it a sarcophagus, its not a battleship and it wasn't taken out by another ship, but by bounty hunters whit shoulder fired rockets. Vacko is never told why riddick is important, just ordered to kill him. The prison guards are the ones that use the tunnels not mercs and riddick never told the plan, Kira did once she realised what it was. Kira sneaks onto the necromancer frigate, after riddick is defeated by vacko and believed dead. Riddick took the armour from a necromancer warrior, not from the purifier
When commenting on the reason the ship crashed in Pitch Black, you said it was a rogue comet. We don't know and it's not mentioned. Fry was asked what happened and her reply was "could have been a rogue comet but I don't know". I've watched them so many times I could tell you word for word. Great movies!
That is one reason why these films are good. I am tired of movies where the heroes are saving their families, cats and dogs and the universe. In that order.

I have to admit that the similarities between the plots of movies 1 and 3 really confused me when I just casually watched the movies as they came out. Like "A species living underground that will swarm the planet once a certain environmental condition is met that Riddick must combat alongside reluctant bounty hunters whose original purpose was capturing him"
The first movie was just designed to be a horror movie but they expanded on the movie when they saw that people where interested in Riddick lore . The 3 movie was the director falling under peer pressure from som of the audience that wanted another pitch black while the main fanbase wanted more lore ,but sadly the director made the wrong decision but the movie was still good so meh.
Still surprised that the streaming services haven't turned this into an original series yet. If they ever get the idea I do hope they keep vin diesel on as Riddick.

A few details about the third movie are off, the accomplice was on Santana’s crew. As well as Riddick stealing the power nodes to ensure only he could find them. Preventing the bounty hunters from leaving. Also ensuring he could bargain for one of the ships.
Riddick has been one of my favorite series since I first saw pitch black when I was younger I also was lucky enough to already have watched the animated movie too. I really hope they make another!!!
When a race die one individual survives to carry on their legacy I d love to see a movie for fury race before the desamation or that much more somehow survive or some divine force brought them back to balance the scale
If I'd had a credit for every lazy hack that said 'Chronicles of Riddick' was a terrible follow-up to Pitch Black, then the mercs wud probably be after my own skin. This is a great example of reverse-snobbery common to many who opine on genre media, inasmuch that a lo-fi, low-budget gritty mood piece is somehow more worthy than a wildly imaginative, grandiose world-building space opera...they might as well just be honest and say "know your place, little Riddick film, you are NOT fit for the big leagues, and don't you forget it". Ive already been compelled to defend COR - and also the third entry - so many times that it's almost as if hating on this film is a perennial passtime that defies logic as much as rebuttal. If COR had been released between 1986-90, then it would've been universally applauded and feted as I one of the most successful examples of its genre...too bad then that the shifting politics and (faux) moral gauges of the film industry did not quite align with Twohy's magnum opus.

There actually was a book written detailing Riddicks life from when he was a child, after the necromongers attacked Furia, he was a wild child for a while and actually was on the side of the law for a few years, but complications ensued so he became the outlaw we all know

You should have included the two excellent video games - Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena. Butcher Bay is set earliest in Riddick's story, and shows him getting his eyeshine. The events of that game lead into Dark Athena. Both are set prior to Pitch Black, and are excellent FPS stealth titles, with an excellent look into Riddick's world. Well worth a play.
I love these installments one thing they took away from Riddicks character was his dark side in pitch black you saw much of his dark side the other two installments not as much but overall one of my best series of installments hands down hope they do at least two more.
In fairness, in Pitch Black he saves 2 people, so in Chronicles he is the one evil that could beat the other evil, at least he can be bargained with... It's character development without watering down his persona

Riddick is such an underrated character in an underrated franchise. Vin Diesel deserves so much more credit for this role - Riddick is interesting as hell; the universe the story is set in is akin in depth to Game of Thrones. Riddick is my favorite sci-fi franchise even more so than Star Wars or Star Trek! Fast & Furious is bigger but that's because there are more people who are unable to comprehend science fiction than there are who do! This is why we are still waiting for Riddick 4 while at the same time they are on Fast & The Furious 25 or 30! C'mon Vin! Make more Riddick movies before you get too old to do them!

I would rather see another Riddick movie, then stomach another fast and furious movie
This franchise is awesome!! You should have included how Riddick got his eyes as was told in The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. This game was incredible.

Looks like this only covered the theatrical release of the films. I might be biased but I'd recommend the directors cut of The Chronicles of Riddick and the extended version of Riddick.
Riddick was in theaters? I never heard of it until I was scanning the digital TV guide and came across it, probably back in 2016 or 2017 . At first I thought they just dropped Chronicles of on the guide for some reason then I read the description and realized it was different.

I'd 100% pick Riddick as my first pick, out of movie "heroes"
One of my favorite sci fi franchises to this day. Even as small as it is. It has this gothic horror to it as well, which I like. I just wish we had books, maybe a mini series, and more games to expand the universe. While we wait for another film that is debatable for release.

Pitch Black - Probably the best, yes. Good sets, great plot, great cast, excellent execution. Excellent sci-fi fantasy thriller.
Chronicles of Riddick - Frickin excellent sets, can't say enough about that aspect. Really made you feel like you were on alien planets in insane situations. Crazy weird plot with regard to the Necromongers. Decent execution. Over all, not a terrible movie, and exceptionally quotable. "Irgun. One of my best." "If you say so." _smirk_
Riddick - This indeed was very similar in too many ways to Pitch Black, but it also had elements of that crazy gift these movies have for capturing hostile alien worlds on film. I liked it. I liked the extra touches involving Riddick's recovery from almost dying, slowly healing in a world bent on killing him a dozen different ways. Excellent sets, largely repetitive plot, good execution. "You keep what you kill, Riddick!! You keep what you kill!!"
I love all of these movies in their own unique ways, and I'm endlessly disgusted at how we have only three Riddick movies and soon there will be TEN Fast and Furious movies. I'll grant you that Vin Diesel nails it as Dom, but he's an _exceptional_ Riddick. People that haven't seen these are truly missing out. Sucks sometimes to live in a society where dumb, repetitive race car bullshit is somehow VASTLY more interesting than some of the best sci fi fantasy action. Humanity needs to take a break from growing egos and hormones for two seconds to grow some brains to appreciate something truly creative.

F+F while fun devolved into generic action after the third one.

- Riddick travels to Furya to learn more of his past; thus goes to the Underverse to confront Vako (now a new Lord Marshall) in Riddick 4.
- Another game that is a sequel to Assualt on Dark Athena and leads up to the opening of Pitch Black.
- Boss Johns becomes a supportive character
- Other worlds to explore
- What is Shirah's role for Riddick?
- A prequel movie or tv series that focuses on six Lord Marshalls before Zhylaw came in, he Rise of Necromonger Empire, and the Fall of Furya.
- Bringing back the amount of blood & gore, thriller elements as done in Pitch Back, and add more complexity to the main anti-hero.
- Learn more about the Elemental race

Wouldn't there be a massive uprising against Vako if he were the Lord Marshall if Riddick showed up?
I mean "you keep what you KILL" is the rule, right? He would be made Lord Marshall by telling people he killed the previous Lord Marshall, who was Riddick. So if Riddick were to show up alive, then it would stand to reason that Vako should at the very least be stripped of his Lordship?
-Any Necromonger film would fail they are too stupid to survive.
-Any Furya movies cant have Vin as he was the last known Furyan.
-Dark Athena was a cartoon not a game, the game was Escape from Butcher Bay put some respect on its name.
-What we need is more of the elementals that may have prophesied Riddick's coming.

I loveee Riddick, Vin Diesel literally is Riddick. Would love to see another film.
Vin Diesel was able to do the trick with the handcuffs holding a chain behind his back but not with cuffs so it was CGI in the film. At one point they couldn't get the Contacts off his eyes with the heat and had to fly in an Optometrist to remove them. They were gonna kill him off at the end of the first and bring back Carolyn in a new movie, but Fave line from the short animations on the website for the movie, I don't mind a little pain, it reminds me I'm alive!
Yeah the first movie was always planned to be about Carolyn but over the course of filming they decided Riddick was a cooler character and decided to keep him instead. I wonder if maybe they filmed him not saving one of the kids before that decision then when they decided to keep him they had him save Jack, it's probably not a good idea to have the character you want to bring back shown as completely uncaring especially to an inmovie fan who wants to be him.

Since Pitch Black this has been one of my top favorite series. 15 to 20 times have watched each one. Rare that sequels are so good.

Elion prime forces were searching house to house looking for a supposed spy, remember that wen riddick arrived on elion prime he destroyed one of the planet defence strike craft.
The knife on the necromancer back was already there before iman was killed.
The Lord Marshall says one of his best not his best.
Riddick doesn't gets out from the device by himself, the purifier, a furyan himself, releases Riddick.
The necromancer ship is a troop dropship, they call it a sarcophagus, its not a battleship and it wasn't taken out by another ship, but by bounty hunters whit shoulder fired rockets.
Vacko is never told why riddick is important, just ordered to kill him.
The prison guards are the ones that use the tunnels not mercs and riddick never told the plan, Kira did once she realised what it was.
Kira sneaks onto the necromancer frigate, after riddick is defeated by vacko and believed dead.

Legit great series, The second movie is impressive with how much of this world they opened up.
When commenting on the reason the ship crashed in Pitch Black, you said it was a rogue comet. We don't know and it's not mentioned. Fry was asked what happened and her reply was "could have been a rogue comet but I don't know". I've watched them so many times I could tell you word for word. Great movies!

I have to admit that the similarities between the plots of movies 1 and 3 really confused me when I just casually watched the movies as they came out. Like "A species living underground that will swarm the planet once a certain environmental condition is met that Riddick must combat alongside reluctant bounty hunters whose original purpose was capturing him"
Is there any new concepts for films these days? I do agree with you about 1st and 3rd, but you can put the same logic across every film today.
The first movie was just designed to be a horror movie but they expanded on the movie when they saw that people where interested in Riddick lore . The 3 movie was the director falling under peer pressure from som of the audience that wanted another pitch black while the main fanbase wanted more lore ,but sadly the director made the wrong decision but the movie was still good so meh.
One of the greatest anti hero’s of all times and the fact that it’s underrated is sad but at the same time I love it’s simplicity and horror elements
Still surprised that the streaming services haven't turned this into an original series yet. If they ever get the idea I do hope they keep vin diesel on as Riddick.
Also just FYI, the Xbox games based on this franchise are pure pixel gold. Classics ahead of their time. FPS with a heavy focus on melee and stealth.

A few details about the third movie are off, the accomplice was on Santana’s crew. As well as Riddick stealing the power nodes to ensure only he could find them. Preventing the bounty hunters from leaving. Also ensuring he could bargain for one of the ships.
Chronicles of Riddick was a pleasant surprise treat.
It's going to have to continue through anime. I'm here for it.

If I'd had a credit for every lazy hack that said 'Chronicles of Riddick' was a terrible follow-up to Pitch Black, then the mercs wud probably be after my own skin.
This is a great example of reverse-snobbery common to many who opine on genre media, inasmuch that a lo-fi, low-budget gritty mood piece is somehow more worthy than a wildly imaginative, grandiose world-building space opera...they might as well just be honest and say "know your place, little Riddick film, you are NOT fit for the big leagues, and don't you forget it".
Ive already been compelled to defend COR - and also the third entry - so many times that it's almost as if hating on this film is a perennial passtime that defies logic as much as rebuttal.
If COR had been released between 1986-90, then it would've been universally applauded and feted as I one of the most successful examples of its genre...too bad then that the shifting politics and (faux) moral gauges of the film industry did not quite align with Twohy's magnum opus.
So glad the Riddick movies are getting some love in recent times.

There actually was a book written detailing Riddicks life from when he was a child, after the necromongers attacked Furia, he was a wild child for a while and actually was on the side of the law for a few years, but complications ensued so he became the outlaw we all know

Chronicles of Riddick, is one of d best movies of ALL TIME! PERIOD! im a lil biased 😄, but it's Fantastic on many levels. Forgive Me, girl not looking up the names of the actors but it's late and I have a buzz!
You should have included the two excellent video games - Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena. Butcher Bay is set earliest in Riddick's story, and shows him getting his eyeshine. The events of that game lead into Dark Athena. Both are set prior to Pitch Black, and are excellent FPS stealth titles, with an excellent look into Riddick's world. Well worth a play.

I love these installments one thing they took away from Riddicks character was his dark side in pitch black you saw much of his dark side the other two installments not as much but overall one of my best series of installments hands down hope they do at least two more.
In fairness, in Pitch Black he saves 2 people, so in Chronicles he is the one evil that could beat the other evil, at least he can be bargained with... It's character development without watering down his persona

Riddick is such an underrated character in an underrated franchise. Vin Diesel deserves so much more credit for this role - Riddick is interesting as hell; the universe the story is set in is akin in depth to Game of Thrones. The latest film was cool but I would have PAID to see more of Riddick as the Necromonger marshall

Riddick is my favorite sci-fi franchise even more so than Star Wars or Star Trek! Fast & Furious is bigger but that's because there are more people who are unable to comprehend science fiction than there are who do! This is why we are still waiting for Riddick 4 while at the same time they are on Fast & The Furious 25 or 30! C'mon Vin! Make more Riddick movies before you get too old to do them!
