Costa Rica spends roughly 6.9% of its budget (2016) on education, compared to a global average of 4.4%. Its economy, once heavily dependent on agriculture, has diversified to include sectors such as finance, corporate services for foreign companies, pharmaceuticals, and ecotourism. and how’s this for forward thinking politics? In 2021 Costa Rica with Denmark launched the "Beyond Oil and Gas alliance" (BOGA) for stopping the use of fossil fuels. The BOGA campaign was presented in the COP26 Climate Summit, where Sweden joined as a core member, while New Zealand and Portugal joined as associate members. You get the picture: Costa Rica is progressive on a lot of issues. Enough of facts: get to know the beauty of the place and the people.
Yes. Electricity is very expensive. Rivers are filled with garbage because the companies the towns hire dump in the river so they don't have to pay the fee. Theft is considered a low level crime which is rarely prosecuted. Don't get me wrong I love the land and the people but there is way more to it than what is being advertised.
I was just In Costa Rica earlier this year. It’s like traveling back in time there. No kids staring at their phones all day , no seed oils and constant added sugar , no refined package garbage. I truly found myself in this country. The experience I encountered , will help me dwell the planet , for a longer period of time. 💕

This is all so inspiring. If only countries in the region would take note so much more could be achieved. Nicaragua north of Costa Rica and twice the size of it with a more varied topography and different ecosystems not found in Costa Rica like the Central American pine oak forest along with an actual interesting turbulent history and a rich Spanish colonial heritage similar to Mexico and Guatemala. But thx to its all its dictatorships, revolutions & civil wars have led to country to follow a very different path but despite this the 2 countries are basically twins when it comes to their cultures and biodiversity
@@rodvarmo it does but that just creates different temperatures. That’s why Costa Rica is mostly mountains while Nicaragua has a more varied landscape from mountains to lowlands on both the pacific and Caribbean and as well inland marine ecosystems in the largest lakes in the region and its shoreline. Nicaragua was meeting point between north and South America the first time the islands came together to form the isthmus was in Nicaragua and that’s how lake Nicaragua became trapped between 2 meaning landmasses and volcanic activity
@@rodvarmo not really true lowlands if youre talking about the pacific coast. the only place you find real tropical lowlands in the northeast along the San Juan river basin bordering Nicaragua which by the way most of the rivers southern side has been deforested in the Costa Rican side
