I'm getting kind of tired of the narrative that Ging had nothing to do with Gon's life; he literally planned it out knowing Gon's drive and ambition would be similar to his own. He wasn't there for Gon physically, but he sure as hell never actually left him. It honestly gives me the impression that some people turned their brains off while watching HxH.

For me personally, Shiapouf is easily one of my absolute favourite Hunter Hunter characters. His emotionality, self-criticism and the fact that he serves his idea of the king rather than Meruem himself are all amazing. His descent as his selfish desire for his ideal of the king dovetails with his selfless love of the king is incredible. Not only that, but this extreme irony in his emotional human flaw only sells the themes of the arc further making him easily the most interesting royal guard to me. That's my perspective anyway. Sure not every manipulator aims to control their enemies, there's also proficient users who control objects or subtances like Kalluto and Morel for example. But Pouf and Pitou do neither of these things. If you want an example of a really proficient Manipulator I could point you to Shalnark, but the even more relevant and most likely strongest canidate for his category will end up being Illumi Zoldyck. From what we've seen he seems to be able to exercise and impose all 4 types of manipulation there are, from coercive (full mind and body control), semi-coercive (body control), suggestive ( subetly controlling many peoples choices and decisions) and inductive (strongly, but not forcibly inducing emotions and stimuli to steer someone to act a certain way, which is what he did with Killua). Pouf could control only many weak-willed people, while Pitou could only control corpses from the looks of things, all of which Illumi could as well. Oh wow, I loved Pouf. He was actually my favorite guard but I understand what you mean. It's very interesting that a lot of your reasoning for disliking him is why I loved his character.
To be honest, I found that one quite funny. Mostly because she barely did anything in the story until that point, so there was no reason to care about her all too much, at least for me.
I liked genthru. What makes hxh so amazing is how layered and motivated the antagonists are, but genthru is evil just to be evil, and there is something refreshing to me about that. I can appreciate a guy who’s only motivation is money. As weird as it seems, having genthru was like adding a basic, stereotypical anime villain, and in the deep layered world of hxh, I just really enjoyed it. He was perfect for greed island, an arch meant to train up the protagonists and connect the Yorknew to chimera arch’s
Could you do "what if scenarios of HXH?", like " what would have happenned if Kurapika was killed by the spider in meteor city" or "who would win, silva vs ging?" stuff like that. There are no more chapter of hunter x hunter coming out soon, so it would be interesting to speculate.
He's hated because he's an effective villain. Villains are supposed to be assholes, look at Griffith, I hate him with a passion but I love him becayse he's a great character.
Shaiapouf?! He was always one of the best villains in Hunter x Hunter. He's right behind Meruem for me, my number 2. One of the best characters in Hunter x Hunter. There's one great video about it by Aleczandxr "One of Anime's Greatest Antagonists: Shaiapouf (Hunter x Hunter)". Please watch it, I'm sure it will make you appreciate him!

@@SH19922x I see, you hate Pouf because you are homophobic? You dont care about plot or the depth of the character. You see him acting emotionally, not like dudes do, and it's enough for you to hate a character. Good to go.
Same, people say that Meruem is not only the best antagonist in the anime, but the whole anime decade, but I do think Hisoka and Pouf are greatly written more than him, also my 2 faves from the anime, with the two being completely opposite, one is just a simple flat character while one is the most multi-layered and relatable character in the series.
The bomber is my least favorite character of the arc he was introduced in. I sorta agree with your point. The finsk fight was definitely amazing because of how terrifying Gon becomes.
I get it, Pouf _was meant_ to be disliked. But he is so very much well written that I just can't help but love him (or hate to love him, perhaps). He was basically the main antagonist during the chimera ants arc and pretty much the chaotic force that made such arc so impactful. Without Pouf we wouldn't have cried as much during _that_ postcredits scene.
I literally forgot about Genthru. I'm completely serious. I had literally not thought about him or remembered his existence even once since finishing the Greed Island arc. No wonder Greed Island bored me until the Volleyball game, having that dweeb as an antagonist hardly made for exciting TV.
I actually agree with the Genthru description....Greed Island Arc is an amazing concept of the show but it's difficult to rewatch the whole Genthru villain story
I always found Pouf to be the most interesting one out of all the chimera ants (even to be one of the most complex villains in HxH). The one that that actually carried the dark theme of the arc. btw why does everybody hate Cheetu? Cause I really enjoyed his character The real despicable characters were: Killuas Mom Shadow beasts (I hated everything from them the first second they appeared) Bizeff (That disgusting old fart) Pike (That disgusting spider-anus-chimera thing--> I still love Shizuku for killing that disgracefull thing)
Honestly what was so bad about genthrou, he was calculating, manipulative, understandable motivation all traits you would want in a villain and his contrast works perfectly against gon in terms of his role in that arc. Not to mention the last part of that arc humanizes him in that he wants his comrades to be healed over himself.
@@lampad4549 I don't think he is a bad villain. All the points you stated are valid and true. I just personally didn't find him memorable, when I think of Greed Island I think of the ball game with Razor or the training with Bisky, I don't really think of Genthrou. Besides the last fight with Gon, his character seemed like a secondary part to the Greed Island arc. I don't hate the guy or anything like that it is just in comparison to other villains in HxH he didn't really make a major mark to me, and I remember his fight with Gon only because of the development it served to Gon's character not his.
honestly I really like genthru as moreof a "force of nature" type character, the appealing bit is just how good he is with nen and how incredibly threatening his abilities are
As a huge fan of Ging (He's my favorite character). I have to massively disagree with your reasonings. Even though I won't change your mind since you seem to just kinda dislike him, I do want to say my thoughts. Ging has shown that he does care about Gon, but only probably set to talk with him after he manages to find him. The way I see it actually, it's the reason that Ging cares for Gon, that made Pariston win the election. Other than that, he also created Greed Island just for the sake of Gon, preparing all his friends there for his arrival. He earned the respect of Netero and somehow Beans seems to really like him aswell. He also is liked by the Sailor of the Exam, Bisky, Razor, Kite. He is liked by really good characters who know him and disliked by most Zodiacs who don't really know him. I agree with you that his involvement with the Arc is very interesting, sad this was the only good word you said about him. I can fully understand Ging not being in someone's favorite list but...Least favorite? c'mon man out of all the characters... There's no way you dislike Ging more than Zazan, or Rammot, or Milluki, or someone else which is actually bad. Thought besides him, the list was good
Btw It's not that I disagree about Genthru I can totally understand you putting him on the list. But just wanted to say that he does have a motive he just wants to win Greed Island through any necessary means. Yeah nothing big but just wanted to point it out
@Hans Hanzo Never thought of Milluki this way...But he just has this mean/ caring only about himself aura that I don't like. He doesn't take much action himself, he's weak and he doesn't really fit with the Zoldycks. Atleat that's what makes me dislike him
You were correct w/ Pouf. It's clear that Togashi wrote Pouf w/ the intention of making us hate or dislike him. Of course, hateable characters don't equal bad characters since Pouf is amazing but still. Edit: Also, Genthru despite being simple was exactly what Greed Island needed. Yes, it falls in between two greater arcs but Greed Island needed to be far more simple and contain a lighter tone to those other arcs to prevent too much of the same tone and complexity. Is Greed Island the besf? No. Is Genthru the best? No. However, he is exactly what the story demanded at that point in the story (even his forgettable character design is likely intentional since Togashi has consistently made fantastic character designs)
Eyyyy I had no idea you were a fellow LD, very cool! I also got tired of only doing shows… so I made the mistake of going back to school for computer science.
I'm surprised by some of the characters you dislike but hey to each their own I think just about all characters are written and used very well but people just have personal distaste
Thank you. More people need to understand this. The whole "this character is well written so you cant dislike them for any reason or you're an idiot that doesn't get it!" trend needs to die.

Ging is extremely intriguing to me though and even though he didn't do well as a father, it was sort of cute how he was just too embarrassed to face Gon.
For me Razor could be the main villain in Greed Island if Togashi left the dodgeball game for last. Instead of Gentru I would love to see Hisoka finding the nen Exocist and contacting the Spiders.
Definitely agree with this list and your explanations, especially with Genthrou and Pouf. Tonpa was hilarious imo I think Togashi could’ve developed him to make him Leorio’s main antagonist lol
"These are going to be my least favorite characters scaled in regards to their importance and presence in the series." THIS. This is why I love watching your videos. Pouf is by far the MOST interesting Royal Guard honestly. Sure, his nen abilities aren't as interesting, but his story was absolutely the most intriguing.
Netero went 2 times to dark continent. He brought a calamity with him known as tonpa " the rookie crusher" with him. Who by still today hunts and crushes rookie. In Hunter database his threat level is "S" rank.

Disagree with Pouf, he was fun to watch. He was always scheming and eventually was the last guard standing, and also the guard with the most attachment (i feel) to the king
I always got the sense that Genthru was the way he was because Greed Island was a game and in his mind he was trying to play the game as effectively as possible and somewhere down the line that brought out the sadist in him. I think that and the idea of him representing PKers could have been driven home harder and it would have been more effective. Ok Billy
@@milo-sq3sd Yes, that's me
I was aware, Billy.
Oh wow, I loved Pouf. He was actually my favorite guard but I understand what you mean. It's very interesting that a lot of your reasoning for disliking him is why I loved his character.
You know a villain is forgettable when you don't remember the hero's hand getting blown off.
Least favourite was that one ant who killed ponzu
Neferpitou
@@edwiniseman4 it's the one that was using a gun and was killed by Bonolenov
@@josevaldes1615 You're right, I got Ponzu and Pokkie mixed up...
To be honest, I found that one quite funny. Mostly because she barely did anything in the story until that point, so there was no reason to care about her all too much, at least for me.
Man got Jupiter dropped on him. Well deserved.
Tonpa is so underrated he is immune to the ff:
Aizen's Kyoka Suigetsu
Muzan's Demonic Blood
Togashi's Hiatus
I swear to God, Cheetu appears in every ranking you do wtf 😂
Its a love hate relationship

How is he your favorite character
Lol Ging is easily my least favorite character, aside from maybe Tonpa and Genthru.
Boi Jin is cool and the face of Hunter Hunter
if ging is your favourite character, i hope u don't have a child
@@doctordungus7774 If Ging is even in your top 50 of worst characters... you've failed to understand hxh
How can you hate Pouf. Those violin skills alone should have him as one of your faves. 🎻
he probably like Dragon Ball level anime more. Characters with emotions are too difficult for this youtuber.
Damn you, Leorio. Stop judging me! I already sub'd
You're actually immune if you're already subbed!
Hah, you fool Leorio. I’m already subscribed
Can I say, Shaiapouf's English voice actor was one of the best in the series. That was some serious emotion.
I actually really like pouf and his character design is one of the best in the show.
Could you do "what if scenarios of HXH?", like " what would have happenned if Kurapika was killed by the spider in meteor city" or "who would win, silva vs ging?" stuff like that. There are no more chapter of hunter x hunter coming out soon, so it would be interesting to speculate.
ayman jaber I agree
Cheetu was a lesson in how you can screw up a Hatsu. It made it so scary if you were to try and think of your own Hatsu because it could go so wrong.
Heh, i ended up feeling, cheetu should have practiced the keep ir simple, stupid method.
I absolutely love Pouf and he is by far the most interesting CA imo

If you think Ging was a bad parent, Killua was tortured with electricity since he was a baby. I'd pick Gon's childhood over that any day of the week.
Let me guess, #1 is Genthru
Everyone hates Genthru
I like genthru
Tonpa is the most likeable, the best, the strongest character ever created in history of manga and anime
Ha, I'am immun against leorio's ability.

pouf is one of my favorite character ., a deep character and his eventual dead is a sad one ., others may not like him thou but i get why
yeah Pouf is unlikable but still one of the best characters
He's hated because he's an effective villain. Villains are supposed to be assholes, look at Griffith, I hate him with a passion but I love him becayse he's a great character.
I agree with the least with one exception. I really liked Cheetu haha and I'm still curious about the special thing he wanted to show everyone.
Shaiapouf?! He was always one of the best villains in Hunter x Hunter. He's right behind Meruem for me, my number 2. One of the best characters in Hunter x Hunter. There's one great video about it by Aleczandxr
"One of Anime's Greatest Antagonists: Shaiapouf (Hunter x Hunter)". Please watch it, I'm sure it will make you appreciate him!
I watched aleczandxrs pouf vid a couple times and still am not a fan of him. The video that turned me on someone? In defense of genthru. I appreciate genthru so much more now

@@SH19922x I see, you hate Pouf because you are homophobic? You dont care about plot or the depth of the character. You see him acting emotionally, not like dudes do, and it's enough for you to hate a character. Good to go.
Pouf is the most fascinating chimera ant. Wtf nenworldreview. I would go as far as to say that he's better than Meruem.
Ikr? His character arc was incredible.
The v i o l i n
Same, people say that Meruem is not only the best antagonist in the anime, but the whole anime decade, but I do think Hisoka and Pouf are greatly written more than him, also my 2 faves from the anime, with the two being completely opposite, one is just a simple flat character while one is the most multi-layered and relatable character in the series.
@@praisethelordgriffith8338disagree i think meruem is just as layered as pouf.
PRAISE THE LORD GRIFFITH Meruem better than Yoshikage Kira? No
The bomber is my least favorite character of the arc he was introduced in.
Without Pouf we wouldn't have cried as much during _that_ postcredits scene.
hiatus d xebec the strongest character
nen type:Specialists
hatsu: never coming back

watch Aleczandxr. He has similar content but with much deeper reviews and thinking process than this youtuber.
Cause I really enjoyed his character
The real despicable characters were:
Killuas Mom
Shadow beasts (I hated everything from them the first second they appeared)
Bizeff (That disgusting old fart)
Pike (That disgusting spider-anus-chimera thing--> I still love Shizuku for killing that disgracefull thing)
I just rewatched the greed island arc and I 100% agree. I also agree with your choices except for Pouf and maybe Ging.
Perfectly balanced, as all things must be
What you said at 2:00 made me laugh so hard 😂 also keep up the amazing hunterxhunter videos I always watch them and find them very insightful
Thanks for the kind words! :D
I honestly love pouf as a character easily my favorite chimera ant
honestly I really like genthru as moreof a "force of nature" type character, the appealing bit is just how good he is with nen and how incredibly threatening his abilities are
When you mentioned genthru I was like: who tf is that? I honestly didn't remember him until you brought up greed island and his fight with gon.
Tonpa is the ultimate troll he had me kinda hyped when he was gonna fight that prisoner
Aizette Hey bud want some orange juice?
Tonpa vs Toguro, Tonpa wins by spiking Toguros orange juice
Gamer Kakyoin Noriaki ill need to use atleast 80% of my strength to challenge tonpa.
Pouf?????? I can't believe of all the
characters you picked him, he's my favorite of the Royal Guard.
this youtuber is short-minded.
Aleczandxr is much better thinker.
Brah as soon as you said Number 5 and the pictures of Hisoka was up there I was about to close the video! Lmao😅🤣🤣🤣
Yeah nothing big but just wanted to point it out
@@paulhriir I have to agree.
This also made my love for Ging sky rocket too:

Ging was a father to those that needed him more than Gon.
Eyyyy I had no idea you were a fellow LD, very cool! I also got tired of only doing shows… so I made the mistake of going back to school for computer science.
I'm surprised by some of the characters you dislike but hey to each their own
I think just about all characters are written and used very well but people just have personal distaste
Thank you. More people need to understand this. The whole "this character is well written so you cant dislike them for any reason or you're an idiot that doesn't get it!" trend needs to die.
@@librathebeautifulwarmonk1283 no it is not. To shame stupid or short-minded people is sacred duty with a goal to exterminate these kind of short-minded people out of the world (or at least out of HxH fanbase).
I loved cheetu, he turnes around the whole arc for me kind of, because the ants were these powerful badass' who were automatically great, he showed us how hard nen is to controll even by people born with natural talent
Pouf is literally the most interesting chimera ant
Rewatching HxH with my friend who hasn't watched it yet. Can't wait till he gets to the chimera ant arc.
When Cheetu died I was like "finally!"
Ging is extremely intriguing to me though and even though he didn't do well as a father, it was sort of cute how he was just too embarrassed to face Gon.
Who's the worst father....ging or yassop ??
Ging
Ging free
Yassop
Ussop from One Piece’s Dad
Father of ussop from one piece
For me Razor could be the main villain in Greed Island if Togashi left the dodgeball game for last.
Instead of Gentru I would love to see Hisoka finding the nen Exocist and contacting the Spiders.
When you got to #1 I was legitimately like “who? Oh right, that guy” which makes him a pretty good choice
Definitely agree with this list and your explanations, especially with Genthrou and Pouf. Tonpa was hilarious imo I think Togashi could’ve developed him to make him Leorio’s main antagonist lol
Pike leech and kykio
And pouf is one of my favorites characters
Pouf is as fascinating to me as your apathy towards him is!
lmao I didn't even remember who Genthru was
I still don't. Even with all the scenes I don't remember a single thing about Genthru.
How could you forget the guy that blew Gon's hand off? That's one of the more memorable moments of HxH!
Then you people are casual fans.
"These are going to be my least favorite characters scaled in regards to their importance and presence in the series." THIS. This is why I love watching your videos. As what other anime channels would do the obvious and choose characters who basically have no screen time as their "least favorite", you actually understand fairness in choice.
Pouf is by far the MOST interesting Royal Guard honestly. Sure, his nen abilities aren't as interesting, but his story was absolutely the most intriguing.
Hmm, my list would probably be Tonpa, Genthru, Milluki, Bonolenov, Tsezguerra.
Genthru and Greed Island are just like Hordy Jones and Fishman Island from One Piece
How is this so accurate
8:05 Anyone notice how Genthrou looks like Fred from Scooby-Doo
He totally does tbh
His design always reminded me of Vash the Stampede
Fred the Stampede?
I don't really hate genthru he's a loyal leader, he also has ambition and determination. He is smart, strong and charismatic.

Even before I started the video I was thinking that if Gin isn't on the list its wrong.
I always got the sense that Genthru was the way he was because Greed Island was a game and in his mind he was trying to play the game as effectively as possible and somewhere down the line that brought out the sadist in him. I think that and the idea of him representing PKers could have been driven home harder and it would have been more effective. But the weird way his story ends I almost wonder if, at least at the time, Togashi had plans to bring him back later.
