I ordered a GR Sport Corolla Touring Sport / Estate with the 2.0L engine, in Ash Grey with Black wheels a week or so ago. Having found this review it just confirms what a great choice I've made, as I was considering the Hyundai Tucson N-Line S 230 Hybrid. I am going from a Seat Ibiza FR 1.5TSi 18 plate. So excited. Great review.
Thank you for the comment K F. I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying your Corolla and enjoyed the review. I look forward to working with Toyota again in the future.
Great review buddy. I currently have one these GR Sports on lease, as I work at the Toyota plant in Derby. It really is a nice car and I’m not being biased as I work for them.
What an excellent review. Love the fact you're not biased and always make fair comments in your videos. Definitely will try a Corolla after watching this.
I have 2006 with 450k miles and I can't kill it. Odometer quit at 299,999. I don't know how many miles after that. A lot. I like hatches anyway but hybrid Toyota gets more mileage driven hard. Fast from the stop and jam on the brakes before the end to recharge battery. You will get your best mileage
Good review. I am waiting the arrival of my Corolla Excel 2.0. I can't wait. Things have been slowed down with a combination of Brexit and Covid. Looks like October before it arrives. I had a test drive in Touring Sport and was sold on the Corolla. Should be worth the wait.
I have just bought a Toyota GR sport 2021 at Brentford curries motors . Its a2litre And it’s beautiful… I am going have it delivered on friday . Do you think I have done good thing or Just made a mistake ? I needed a new Car urgently as I had a Nissan Almere 1999 Since 2003 and it was falling to bits I was Just driving it with 4 wells and a engine . I was going for the new aris but it was a 1 Year wait same with Corolla . Me and my Wife just come across this Corolla by mistake on the fourcourt after going round And round in circles finally we bidded for This Corolla and it was accepted. Now I am ready to accept it .. under great Stress because I have not bought a car Since 2003. The process has all changed and became Abit slightly complex . Thank you
Yea I got one actually. Drove both. It's very nice but if you are a sporty type of person you miss the sound or something. But I prefer the 2.0 more then the 1.8 while both drive very good!
@@markrutter29 yes it has. But tbh I find it really dissapointing. Yes you slightly notice the differences between Eco normal and sport mode but it's not that much of a difference in my opinion. It's just not a true sport car but it drives very good.
Not a new Corolla owner, but after seeing this I could be. Been trying to find the full spec of the model as something 'simple' - like its size (length and width) and turning circle - is very important to me with rather restricted parking space. I've been driving a Golf GTD for more than a few years and need a change. Undoubtedly considering hybrid and had looked at the Golf GTE reviews. The Toyota may be a better option. Thanks for the review.
Such a great car reviewer just came across your channel, got the same car for 1/5 now i like it i can say better handling and ride quality than even golf
Nice review….l went and had a look at a GR SPORT over the weekend lv got to say l was impressed, l drive a 2020 Audi A3 lm tempted especially for the fuel consumption build quality was good too.
The Touring is the one, really. It also plays hard to get. I can exepct mine for Christmas (2.0L 2023 Touring, mid-trim in Bronze Oxide). On the economic side, it's not that great, considering how much they cost nowadays compared to the competition, especially the 2.0L. A diesel Octavia would be around there, a Honda Civic E;Hev IMO is better overall. But, if you want an Estate Hybrid, abd you want Toyota technology (Prius engines) and 'reliability', not really concerned with rear space, the Corolla Touring ticks a lot of boxes. If all these are issues, get a Civic E:Hev. If you find one, a Suzuki Swace is basically a entry Corolla Touring Sport, so it's worth considering as well if you want a basic model, that can still be optioned with the safety features. The 1.8L 140hp really should be enough for anyone, and is a little bit more economical than the 2.0L. I went for the 2.0L Touring as a treat for myself, my first 'new' car after decades of buying second-hand vehicles. I hate SUVs, I drive with economy in mind (but not slow), and I just can't live without the practicality of compact estates. So the choice was all made for me. Can't wait for my average, boring car to arrive.
David, hi got a GR Touring Sports on order and watched your very positive review with interest and to confirm I’d made a decent choice and also to find out more about the HUD (head up display) which is a unique feature only on the GR Sports/Touring Sports, yet you don’t mention it? Otherwise good, informative and interesting review.
Hi Nigel. Thank you very much for the comment. I did have a segment about the HUD on the GR Sport, however it would’ve extended the video a fair amount so decided to leave it out. It sounds like you’ve got a great car on order. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you.
Really enjoyed this review of the new Corolla and it has persuaded me to switch from the diesel that I currently drive to this Hybrid. The 1.8 Excel is the one that has caught my eye.
Great review and I completely agree with everything you pointed out. It is a lovely car and effortless to drive. Those interior lights caught my attention as well when I took one for a test drive. It would have been nice to get some smart led lighting instead. Yeah, small complaint I know. But in general a very nice practical car. Looking forward to you checking out the new golf 8.
Thank you Jay for your comment. Glad to hear you liked my review and details I have mentioned. Well I can tell you that the new Seat Leon and VW Golf are in the diary for review over the next 5 weeks so please stay tuned and subscribe if you haven't already. Thank you.

As you know, the 208 and the Corolla GR Sport (2.0ltr version) are on my shortlist (along with the new Ford Puma), when I change cars in a couple of months. Seeing as you've driven & reviewed both the 208 and the Corolla GR Sport Auto bears - which one do you prefer mate?
Hi Glenn. Thank you for your comment. I’ve not driven the Puma yet and I already know it’ll be a great drivers car. But if it was my money I would choose the Corolla. Extremely comfortable and a great car to drive. Economy is a highlight as well.
@@AutoBears Cheers David. I am leaning towards the Toyota GR Sport because as you say, even in the 2.0 version, the MPG figures look terrific & comfy seats are always a bonus! Thanks for the detailed review once again David. Now if you could just review the new Puma 7-speed auto - that would be all 3 cars on my shortlist that you've covered! :)
To ask an awkward question, as you have driven both the 208 gt line 100 EAT8 and the corolla GR sport which would you recommend and why, I am torn between them both at the minute.
Why does everybody mention VW golf diesels when comparing fuel economy when the record for economy is held by a 1.6 idtec Honda diesel. Guinness book of records. Mine currently lifetime average of 63.85. My record with A/C on. 83 mpg.
Hi, great video. I drive a 2013 Lexus CT200h which I believe is the same or similar power train as the new Corolla 1.8 version. Admittedly I mostly just use the car to get to work which is only 3 miles away, and local running around. To give you an idea, the car has only done 1500 miles since last July. My average fuel economy is only around 40mpg which is disappointing.
Thank you for your comment Liam. If you are looking to change your car and stick with a hybrid, the new Corolla might be perfect for you. It felt much more advanced in its hybrid setup than the CT.
