STARLUX Airlines is honestly my new favorite airline. However, given the conditions especially impacting the Asia region, they are struggling to meet demands. They've cut all flights to Macau, their flight to Penang, and reduced their Da Nang service from two to one daily leaving them solely with one flight from Taipei to Da Nang... They've even delayed their inaugural Taipei to Cebu flight. Best of luck to STARLUX and all airlines affected by this crisis.
Agreed - best of luck to them! I do have to wonder if it would benefit them to stop flying altogether for a couple months to wait for conditions to get better. Maybe pausing operations for a bit to save cash (and then re-launching) is more complicated than it sounds, but it seems like it would make sense.

Little update: Starlux is surviving well, they just had their first flight to Fukuoka the other day, and as I’m writing their new airbus a330 NEO is on his way to Taiwan, and their first a350 will start to take tests soon. Hope we can all enjoy it in the future.

Fast Forward 1 year, 7 months and 11 days later and Starlux is still flying around with a fleet of five Airbus A321neo aircraft to nine different destinations all around East Asia.
Now as of April 2023, Starlux has leased 13 A321 Neos and 4 A330 Neos, and already took delivery of their first 3 A350-900s! There are still 15 more A350s in which they have yet to take delivery
I remember when I was young, I remember flying with my family to Anchorage to visit my sister just after the PSA flight collided with small plane and crashed into the San Diego suburb (my father was even scheduled to be on that plane but fortunately decided to take a later flight). LAX was a ghost town that day and there was so few flyers that Western Airlines changed from a DC-10 down to a 727 and it still was not close to full.
They’ll be just fine, they’re backed by a LOT OF MONEY. A350’s are still scheduled to be delivered as scheduled, still hiring pilots. Refreshing to have a third option in Taiwan, the CEO is extremely passionate.

As far as I heard, the company has no plans to fire anyone, or makes anyone take unpaid leaves. They only stretch their shift cycles and they are making good use of the time for further training. They recently even went ahead with the construction of their maintenance hanger for their future A321NEOs and A350. So yeah, they are actually doing relatively better than the other two Taiwanese main carriers, CI and BR :) Edit: Just an update, they are planning to open Taipei - Bangkok Suvarnbhumi, Tokyo Narita and Osaka route from December, and Kuala Lumpur from January
First time a review of yours has made me depressed and upset! I eagerly awaited the start up of Starlux Airlines and have seen one other review that absolutely raved about a new airline that brought back service with a sincere smile to the skies. Damn that Corona Crap to the pits of Hell! I will be ever so optimistic and pray for a miracle. Truly, my heart aches to finally see an airline that is a throwback to the great airlines of my youth and then face this situation just as it begins its service. Well...Thank you so much for this understanding review once again, Scott. I can say, I am very depressed as well about this airline. From your point of view, and having followed its development a large bit, it looks to be an airline that got everything right, from identity to flight features with their economic plan (which was quite a bargain, but it has everything to work well). Even their CEO is a pilot, who flew delivery flights himself, and that's a novelty! In other words, this airline has everything to please customers and employees, and yet...It starts operations at what couldn't have been planned: This freaking outbreak of the virus. It really is a shame, for such a well constructed start-up airline to face such an economic danger...I hope somehow that the backlog of airplane orders (their order of 17 A350s, cancelling one or two could save some money) and the few customers they'll have will be enough to save themselves. Once again, thank you so much for reviewing this airline, and I'm glad to see you that satisfied with this flight experience. The first time I didn't laugh much on one of your videos because I shared this "depression" of seeing such a nice airline being threatened. @@keiming2277 Chang Kuo-wei is the youngest son of the founder of Evergreen, the owners of EVA, when his father died he left the group to him, his brothers banded together and managed to oust Chang and the rest of the upper management of EVA. A Taiwan has court decided on March 18th that this was illegal and has enforced the fathers will, reinstating Chang as the head of Evergreen. The ruling can be appealed, a real mess and if the ruling stands, does Chang keep Starlux flying ?????
One of the son of the EVA airlines broke away and started his own airlines so you know that they will not go out of business. CEO will sometimes pilot your flight which certainly add personal touch which you will probably never experience anywhere else. He was being squeezed out of this brother's power struggle. All the people who are part of the new and exciting airlines is on board and trying to do their best. You are lucky enough to be on one of their maiden flights. Don't worry, he will not be bankrupted.
Another nice review as usual! Being the ex-EVA Air CEO, I am sure Starlux founder KW Chang will get through this virus crisis. But dont expect Starlux to ever provide Corona onboard in the future though.

Qantas here in Australia have grounded all but 2 of their A 380's and replaced some routes with Dream Liners as the demand for travel has slumped...they are in a fairly strong position however and hopefully can ride this thing out !! Talk about timing as I understand their first flight was in late January this year ?? Great flight mate but I understand how you feel for the airline and the staff. SANspotter, excellent review. Starlux appears to have the makings of a 4 and 5-stars airline. Meanwhile, please be careful when traveling. If you haven't done so already, may I suggest that you purchase antiseptic wipes and clean the surfaces that surround you (including the lavatories) on the plane. Also, consistently wash your hands and limit your exposure to others, mvbo31, RN, MSN/MPH.

What is your approach to travel during the Covid 19 outbreak? I’ve got a few trips booked and my family are saying I shouldn’t go. What do you think?
You’re welcome Simon! As long as you avoid the hot spots (China, Korea, Italy, etc) there’s no reason not to go. Airports and planes are empty, and you’re at very low risk of catching anything as long as you stay safe. I’m not slowing my travel much - other than avoiding the highest risk areas.
FYI: Starlux will survive this pandemic with a capital increase of around 78 million US dollars this February. Also K. Chang (the president) got the heritage from his father of 460 million US dollars. Fortunately, they hold only 3 planes currently. You guys will definitely able to take a Starlux flight after the pandemic. 😎
I really think If the corona virus wouldn’t have happened starlux airlines would’ve taken off and they would have grown but if the corona virus goes away I think they will totally grow and become a great airline

They should be fine in the short term, the founder has deep pockets, airline knowledge and a vindictive streak a mile wide.

Qantas here in Australia have grounded all but 2 of their A 380's and replaced some routes with Dream Liners as the demand for travel has slumped...they are in a fairly strong position however and hopefully can ride this thing out !! Talk about timing as I understand their first flight was in late January this year ?? Great flight mate but I understand how you feel for the airline and the staff. Penang is one of my top 3 places in the world...great spot and great people.... stay safe and get rid of the cough !! Well done as always Scott of the Red Shoes !!

SANspotter, excellent review. Starlux appears to have the makings of a 4 and 5-stars airline. Meanwhile, please be careful when traveling. If you haven't done so already, may I suggest that you purchase antiseptic wipes and clean the surfaces that surround you (including the lavatories) on the plane. Also, consistently wash your hands and limit your exposure to others, mvbo31, RN, MSN/MPH.

Thanks for another wonderful trip report. I really feel for everyone in the airline industry right now. I live in the UK and a good friend of mine recently lost his job at FlyBe. What is your approach to travel during the Covid 19 outbreak? I’ve got a few trips booked and my family are saying I shouldn’t go. What do you think?
You’re welcome Simon! As long as you avoid the hot spots (China, Korea, Italy, etc) there’s no reason not to go. Airports and planes are empty, and you’re at very low risk of catching anything as long as you stay safe. I’m not slowing my travel much - other than avoiding the highest risk areas.
FYI: Starlux will survive this pandemic with a capital increase of around 78 million US dollars this February.
Also K. Chang (the president) got the heritage from his father of 460 million US dollars.
Fortunately, they hold only 3 planes currently.
You guys will definitely able to take a Starlux flight after the pandemic. 😎
