you can't escape Texas prisons unless you have help from the inside.. .this is an example of not having help because he was caught immediately, however someone wasn't paying attention on the shift since he was a trusty and just walked away

All states have a trustee program like this. A lot of them actually let them work outside of the prison/jail with little to no supervision.
Obviously not. It was a minimum security prison. The last inmates with a reason to escape...Now, he wont have to worry about it.
