    So many on my list too. My cousin Rachel is probably the one I will be reading soonish. I adored Rebecca, it’s a favorite of mine.

      Oh I so need to get to that one. But I guess that’s how I feel about this whole list 😅

    Passing is fabulous. The Importance of Being Ernest is my favourite play. It is utterly ridiculous and fun. Highly recommend!

    THE GRAPES OF WRATH!!!! it's one of my favorites but it's very slow and takes place during The Depression... The Mother was one of my favorite characters. Such a strong lady.

      Good to know it’s slow. That way I can prepare myself mentally for the type of reading experience it will be. Thanks!

    Great list!! I've read Of Human Bondage. It is a good book. I am excited to see what you think of Blithedale Romance. That is my favorite Hawthorne. It is statement about his time spent at a communal farm. I love your channel!

    Good luck with them all. I plan to read the three musketeers next year if you want to buddy read it. So many good books on the list. I loved Oscar Wildes plays 😊

      A buddy read sounds great! Let me know if you have a time that might work well for you!

    I think Candide will surprise you! I read it many years ago so I don't remember details, but I do know it was fantastic.

      I ADORE Summer by Edith Wharton. She is my favorite American author, and Summer is one of my favorites of hers

      Both of these comments are super helpful! I have a bit more hope now for Candide, thank you 😊

    Some of these are on my own to be read list but you’ve got a big head start on me age wise Tori 😉 I loved both The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden which are the only two Steinbeck I’ve read, am planning on reading my own first Zola this year Ladies Paradise and have still only read Crime and Punishment and Poor Folk by Dostoyevsky so would like to tackle another big one.

    • @goodstrongwords
      @goodstrongwords  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re the second to comment positive feelings towards Grapes of Wrath, which is honestly so relieving to me as I’ve mostly heard negative things. So thank you!
      Hopefully we’ll both enjoy Zola and more Dostoevsky!

    You should read "The Woman in White and "Great Expectations"

      @goodstrongwords  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jeffreykaufmann2867 Thanks for the recommendations! I have actually already read both and enjoyed them! I do need to read more Wilkie Collins though. I’ve only read that and “The Moonstone”.

    • @jeffreykaufmann2867
      @jeffreykaufmann2867 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @goodstrongwords No Name & Armadale are just as compelling as The Woman in White. I would recommend "The Dead Secret" to someone who has never read a Collins Novel cause it's only 350 pages. I read all 25 of his novels.

    • @jeffreykaufmann2867

      @@goodstrongwords I wish The Woman in White was filmed for the big screen.

      @@jeffreykaufmann2867 Thank you! I will definitely be referring to this the next time I’m searching for a Wilkie Collins novel 😊. I have “The Law and the Lady” on my shelf already so I’ll probably start with that. But I know “Armadale” has long been on my radar too!
      “The Woman in White” definitely deserves the big screen treatment.

      Seems like I succeeded in creating a list with some good variety! I’m excited to see how our preferences match up!

    Read ‘Of Human Bondage’ a few years ago. It’s fairly average 20th cent. Coming of age and then a love story that I didn’t really connect with. ‘Theatre’ by Maugham, however, is amazing!
    ‘Lolita’ is SO good! It’s obviously incredibly difficult, but Nabokov absolutely designed it with great care to show just how many hoops predators jump through to justify their behaviour and as well just how it can destroy the lives of victims. I think it gets horribly mischaracterized because of the film adaptation that completely did the opposite of his thesis. He was even adamant that he did not want a picture of a young girl on the cover which…was obviously not a wish that was honoured…

    • @goodstrongwords
      @goodstrongwords  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I’ll have to add “Theatre” to my list as well. Even if I don’t love “Of Human Bondage”, I like to give authors multiple opportunities.
      I’m so interested to see how Lolita goes for me. I have no idea what my opinion will be but thoughts like this give me hope that it will be thought provoking if nothing else. 😊

    Bros Karamazov is on my list too but I've decided to read all of Dostoevsky first

    • @goodstrongwords
      @goodstrongwords  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought about doing that as well but it’s just been one I’ve been so excited about for so long that I decided to just go for it when I’m ready. 🤣

    Ah, Dostoevsky is my favorite ❤ I read The Three Musketeers last year and it was one of my biggest disappointments. Thinking about it still makes me a bit angry 😅

      @goodstrongwords I love The Count of Monte Cristo so much that I was really hoping this would be a new favorite too.

    start at the top--romola1st , then deronda, then Felix holt-- avoid thinking "radical" has anything to do w politics. Holt is a great great book. I'd read germinal way before terese raquin unless u r a glutton for punishment.
