In my opinion the B&B is simply the best. I’ve used almost everything that is available to me in my area. Nothing compares to B&B. I use it exclusively.
Great video, I used Kingsford for years and recently started using B&B and I agree with your findings. The B&B is great, also smells better when you first light it too. Thanks for sharing!!
Costco runs the Kingsford Pro in a 2 pack of 18# bags for around $20. I always grab a couple bags and have found it to work well in my Akorn as well as kettles. I also like the B&B...basically I get whichever is on sale and both perform well.
I do the exact same from costco. I'm not trashing B&B but I took the time myself to try many different brands and the costco two pack works best for me. Where I am. B&B is 50% more in price. Same price as Jealous Devil
Thanks for the info Tom. Really enjoyed your video. I was trying B&B for the first time and came across your video while the briquettes were lighting in the chimney. Kingsford blue bag has been my go to for years but I couldn't control the fire in my 26 inch Weber anymore. It would either go out or burn up too fast. Tonight I have been able to control the heat like I used to. I will be buying a second bag of the B&B
Tom I'm sticking with my B&B. The closest I have found to B&B is Weber briquettes. Great comparison and thanks for taking the time to do this! Happy Father's Day!
Agreed. The Weber briquettes were expensive here but produced a very good smoke and were long burning. They were my choice for briquettes on a long cook, with B&B for everything else.
I totally agree with your findings, Tom! The Kingsford lite fast, burn hot and fast, and burn out fast! I have been using B&B for years, and there is no comparison! I always shut down my vents after a cook and about half of my B&B are preserved! There is nothing left of the Kingsford! Nothing but ash for the next cook! Thanks for the Honest Review! Cheers
Tom - I enjoyed this. Very helpful. I have used the B and B but not the "Pro" bag of Kingsford. I primarily use Kingsford regular. A good test and the video didn't get too long either!
I tried B&B after discovering your channel. Before that I preferred the regular Kingsford blue bag with no complaints. Since then I use B&B. For the most part I use charcoal for quick hot cooks, so price could play a role in any impulse buys in my near future. It looks like B&B has that covered.
When I was first starting out in BBQ, only used Kingsford Blue, buying 10-20 bags when on sale at HD prior to major cooking holidays. Then got my MB gravity fed and switched to B&B. Using B&B lump to start my offset fires.
Thanks for confirming what I've long suspected. I've had great luck with B & B products. I agree and declare B&B the winner. It might be interesting to compare lump charcoal varieties head-to-head. For instance, I've never used Blues Hog brand and know almost nothing about it. I myself have been Jealous Devil briquettes and B&B oak lump charcoal user for years now. I recommend both.
Thanks Tom. Picked up that Masterbuilt portable smoker/grill. It’s got a small firebox, so needed something hot, clean, and efficient. Looks like B&B is the way to go..
Great video! Very informative and it flowed really well. I would love to see more head-to-head comparisons when it comes to BBQ, and grilling. Thumbs up, and a sub from me.
Hey Tom! Happy Fathers Day! I can get the kings ford professional at Costco and it’s $29.99 for 2 18lb bags. But I stick with B&B all the way. In a pinch yea the kingsford works but nothing compares to the hotter longer cleaned
I've never tried Pro but stopped using regular blue bag years ago because I didn't like the smell of the smoke. B&B, Royal Oak Natural and back in the day Weber briquettes are all so much better. Thanks for the video. I didn't expect B&B to go that much longer.
i just watched the video on b & b vs. devil charcoal. I believe the b & b only reached 275° but here it reached over 300° so the wind may have played a part. Either way, overall the best appears to be b & b. Id be interested in seeing the b & b char logs. That's actually what I was looking for. I've been using Kingsford regular charcoal for a long time, not knowing these other items really make a difference. Thank you for the great content!
Nice and helpful comparison, thank you. I would like to point out that Costco has the Kingsford professional 2 18 lb bags for just under $25, I have no idea why Walmart is so high.
I have used Kingsford original for years on a kettle snake method but recently tried b&b oak briquettes. The b&b ran so much slower and even. Will switch to b and b
Kingsford Pro runs deals through costco. ~$24 for 2x18# and on sale $18 during various parts of the year. Killer deal. B&B is good, but hard to beat that price.
Love your channel Tom! I have a question for you: I love B&B briquettes, but I’m now looking at the Akorn Auto Kamado that you have and have done great videos on. Have you used B&B briquettes on the Auto Kamado? I know generally speaking lump is preferred in Kamado, but curious since B&B has basically no additives. Thank you sir!
Kingsford may have an edge in lighting quick and getting the Q going fast. But that's about it. If you just got home and need to get some thin burgers and hotdogs going right away... Kingsford may be better for you. B&B is by far better if you want a longer consistent heat and more flavor. I like to use the B&B Logs and sometimes mix the Logs and Briquettes together for a really long, consistent, and hot grill. Mainly cuz I like to do an indirect heat smoke and then flip on to the hot sear. Or I do a hot sear and then shut it all the way down to get the smoke. Then flip and open it wide open to get a sear again and then shut it down for additional smoke. You can't do that with Kingsford. It's a one hot burn and then nothing.
On the B&B, I did not see Duraflame on the back of the bag, I understand B&B has declined since Duraflame purchased the company a few years ago. Can you confirm if this B&B has Duraflame on the bag and anyone have any experience with Duraflame B&B?
I don't know what is with Walmarts prices but here in the east the Kingsford Professional is about 1/2 the price of the B&B. If they were the same or close I would go for the B&B.
I still like the OG Kingsford blue bag. Doesn’t have so much dirty smoke compared to B&B when doing the minion method and smoking something. Value is very high. B&B burns very hot and burns a loooooong time if you’re just doing regular grilling it’s a good option IMHO.
@@bigguy7618 Yeah, I can get two bags of 20 pound blue bags for $20 in my area. Note, just for clarity, this is the OG blue bag not the Pro as stated before.
Great content…. This was helpful. I have been using lump for a long time but recently switched to briquettes when I got the gravity MB800. I started using it in the Green Egg also and it is good. I use the White Bag Kingsford from sams club. I will now buy the BB and test it out. Thanks again as always…
Hotter, longer, cleaner, actually true compared to Kingsford. I picked up the pro model at Costco & was so disappointed. Its seams, I go through more charcoal & get a ton more ash on my cooks. I won't be purchasing Kingsford again & sticking with the B&B. Plus, I like the flavor better that B&B produces.
Hi Tom, Just FYI, the Walmart posted price ($9.97) for B&B must be obsolete. There is no way add the item to shopping cart and it doesn't even say "Out of Stock".. The best price for B&B in 17.6 # bags is $16 at Ace Hardware (Minnesota). Based on your results I am planning to switch to B&B from Royal Oak. Thanks for doing the test. 👍
Put the B&B up against the Walmart Cowboy 2x20# bags. Also, Home Depot's briquet brand Embers, sense they're in that 2x20# game as well... If you have a Home Depot wherever you live. Some people are pretty remote in the BBQ game.
Come on, Tom, Kingsford said what it's made from: 100% natural ingredients! You know, like natural oak, arsenic, cockroaches, alder wood, corn starch, etc. I don't know, but by not saying what's in there leaves it open to interpretation...
Well I’ll definitely be buying B&B briquettes for the Akorn Jr. Been using regular Kingsford and been fine. But didn’t realize B&B was so much cheaper.
I've been looking for B&B briquets in the Madison area for the last 2 years and I can never find it! I use the Kingsford Pro a fair bit. I get it at Costco and it's on special in 2-packs there from early spring on. I think I paid $18 for my last 2 pack.
I finally found the B&B orange bag at Farm & Fleet so I grabbed a bag. IMO it was definitely superior to Kingsford in performance. Smoked ribs in my Weber Summit with for ~4.5 hours. Hard to quantify how much I put in to start, but about 2/3 of it was left after I was done. I wouldn’t have had that much Kingsford left in my experience.
I don't care for Kingsford Professional at all. It's probably ok for very hot and fast cooks, searing steaks, etc. I tried using them in a WSM for a long cook, and they burned way too fast. I prefer regular Kingsford Blue, in fact. B&B is where it's at.
B&B oak briquette has the best taste and scent out of every briquette on the market (wish their lump scent/taste was as pleasant as the briquette ) Stinkford is arguably the worst briquette of the big brands, so much white smoke at start

All of it. Their lump is big, nice, chunky stuff, the Char-Logs are truly amazing, and the briquettes are as good as you can get.

Yes! The Jealous Devil Max is very comparable to B&B.
