  • Rebuilding A Wrecked 2017 Ford F-250 - Frame repair. It was purchased at a salvage auction and needed to be rebuilt. This video briefly describes the process of removing the front half of the frame and welding the new frame member ordered from Ford and joining it to the existing rear chassis. The frame was cut in front of the factory weld, the old pockets removed and the old welds were ground to leave the surface smooth allowing the new pieces to mate together as it was in the factory. The Ford F250 rebuild next video will be the upper oil pan replacement.

    Watching you talk about welding a truck frame reminded me of Johnny Joplin. If you don’t know who that is, ask your Dad. Enjoying these videos.

    Great video. I just got my new front frame section on and loosely bolted to the rear section. I'm trying to ensure I measure square before welding. My front frame did not give me a good point to take measurements off of. Do you think the front-most body mounts and the body mounts under the floorboards are good references? They appear to be located the same on both sides.

      I just saw this but hopefully you realized that yes I would say that the mount would have been a good reference. If the cab mounts/bolts line up it should mean that the rest should be good too.

    Doing the rear section of my 2020 F150 right now and this was great to watch. I have that same looking "C Cut" section I will need to weld after using a come along to cinch it in there. Did you seriously use 50 amps to weld this? I was thinking much lower at around 30.. I have plenty of bad frame to practice on so no big deal.

      Seth, the service needed for both the stick and MIG I have is a 50amp circuit. I do have all the ford specs in a pdf from them. If you would like it shoot me an email at extensivediy@gmail.com and I will send it over. Good luck. All I would add is to be sure your frame was level across from front to back and that you had some known points of how far to seat the frame to ensure your cab bolts will align when you put the cab back.

      @@extensivediy Yes sir, email sent!! Yes, gonna do it exactly like you. For whatever reason I thought you were pushing your machine to it's limit of 50a service. I automatically thought that was a funny way of explaining you had your machine turned up 100%. Sometimes I just need to clear out my brain and ears lol. Thanks a lot for all of your help!

    What did you guys use to remove the cab? A forklift ? I’ve done a 2011 f150 and a 2018 navigator full frame replacement using cinder blocks and 6x6 trusses. I’m going to do a front frame like yours for a 2020 navigator and am trying to figure out an easier way to do it. Don’t have tractors or anything but might be able to rent a forklift.

      SO it is funny you mention the cinder blocks and 6x6's because I wish I had it on camera but we did just that and it was so sketchy once we got it to the height needed, that I ended up borrowing my fathers gantry and then purchasing a second. Doing it that way made it so easy that I wouldn't hesitate doing another. You can rent them as well.

      @@extensivediy yeah it was scary at times and just the way it starts tilting when you are doing it and becomes so unbalanced but luckily made it work. Thanks for the tips. Wish I could and pictures on here haha maybe I’ll start adding TH-cam videos of the rebuilds and progress.

    I bought a f350 from a dealer and they told me it was salvaged but didn’t tell me why so a year later I found out they replaced the front frame and only welded two one inch welds top and side with 1/4 gaps I owe them about 5K left so I told them they’re not going to see no more money from me I paid too much for it and now they want to repo I’m going to see if there’s a law that I could get them for selling me a dangerous truck

    what did you do with the vin number

    • @extensivediy
      @extensivediy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing needed for the VIN for the work I did. The front part of the frame didn't have any VIN and was replaced and inspected by the state agency to get it back on the road.

    Were, or who did you buy your front frame section from?
    I have a frame that I bought to get the rear axle and springs
    I'm gonna try sell the frame if I don't need it for my project. My right horn is down, but I thinks pullable
