    Also fun fact: Danny, the lead singer for Voyager, is actually one of the top immigration lawyers in this country. The man's a rockstar while also literally running his own law firm and working for the Australian government at various embassies. Its a wild combo

    Sheldon Riley is my personal winner. His song has moved me more than any other ballad so far this year, so I have to give it to him for that, and I think his live performance will have even more impact. But I don't think he's as sure to win as the odds are predicting. He's got serious competition in Voyager, I think, which is another song I really like so I wouldn't be too devastated if they won instead. Jaguar and Charley are both really popular as well.
    Voyager have the best rock song out of the entire national final season for me. They gave me everything I wanted from Finland and didn't quite get. And added some interesting electronica sounds on top. I think they would give the Rasmus a run for their money if they end up in Turin together.

    • @ESCTom
      @ESCTom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yea it really sucks when you have 2 breakthrough songs in one National final. I wish one of them had been in 2020, which was such a weak year.
      With Sheldon, his vocals are AWESOME, but the song isnt the same level as him i think. Like imagine if Sheldon had been given "Arcade" - he would have WOOOOOOON the whole thing.

    Ahh I've been waiting for you to review Australia ever since Voyager released their song weeks ago. Dreamer is by faaaaaar my favourite song this NF season and if it actually went to ESC it would be one of my favourite entries. Glad you enjoyed it! My favourite is Jude York. I love his dreamy song. He's one of the big surprises of this Eurovision season for me so far. I hope he gains some recognition from Australia Decides because he deserves more people listening to his music. That's the thing I like about Australia btw, I feel like the ozzie fans are more nurturing with their artists than the European ones. We tend to trash our artists if the song doesn't live up to our expectations and it can make them hesitate to participate in Eurovision sometimes (I think)...

    @konstantinospapaioannou2588 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Australia gives me the biggest dilemma this year. Voyager's amazing synthwave with charismatic and eyecatching Danny and the dynamic energy escalating to an explosive ending versus the extraterrestrial voice of Sheldon Riley dominating the purposefully basic ballad Not the same. And I say purposefully because I believe they had the intention of making something so generic in order to give Sheldon's unique voice the full space to expand and shine. Sheldon doesn't need any "tricks" in his songs. No complicated compositions, ethnic touches, outrageous lyrics, catchy rythmic lines, peaks, or whatever else. He is a diamond and his voice is like Mida's touch. Both songs are by far better than all selected songs so far. Only exception River. Let's see....

    • @ESCTom
      @ESCTom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea i agree he doesnt need those tricks, but i think it would have been nice to have a more prominent instrumental or melody, so that it felt less like just a vocal masterclass

      @@ESCTom it's developed over time, as have Voyager. In their earlier days when they were more prog/power metal, not so much. But over the past 8 years or so they've been honing and developing this *glorious* mix of djent prog/80's synthpop and the vocal delivery has changed to go with.

    Let me enlighten you as to why Australia are number 2 in the odds: approx a month ago(late Jan/early Feb) before I went to bed, I checked the odds & Australia was sitting in 18th spot after all the artists were announced. I woke up at 4am with a bit of insomnia & decided to do some ESC catch up & check the odds & found Australia jumped into 4th spot overnight? Why? I then investigated & found 2 songs from Australia Decides had been released overnight 1) Jude York 2) Voyager. I listened to Jude York first...& thought mmm no this cant be why Australia jumped to 4th? so next I listened to Voyager...45 seconds into the song was enough to tell me this was why Australia was in 4th spot.(I made a comment on the Voyager video about it at the time.) Two days later, Australia then moved up to number 1 spot & stayed there for a week and a half. I even took a photo of the odds because I thought it might be the only time ever that Australia was in top spot. Australia then dropped to number two after Brividi was selected & has stayed in number 2 spot ever since.. Sheldon's song was only just released 4-5 days ago on the 18th Feb & Australia dropped down to number 3 spot then a day later back up to number 2 where it has stayed.
    About the band: Voyager have been around a while & have done European tours. They started their Eurovision campaign in 2015 & had been knocked back 2-3 times when they applied for Australia Decides. This year they were finally accepted. The lead singer Danny IS a Eurovision fanatic & actually attended Tel Aviv. And yes I know odds don't mean much right now.. there are still a few more songs to be released so anything can happen! But hope this helps in explaining the confusion surrounding Australia's current odds position.

    • @aussierose
      @aussierose 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ps: The reason why the bookies have Sheldon so high in the odds of Australia Decides is because he has been doing an amazing amount of interviews since the release of his song & his image is everywhere. He previously was on a number of other singing competitions as well and is well known from those. I think the only singing competition he hasn't done is Australia's got Talent would you believe. A lot of people here have started calling him to be Dame Edna Everidge 2.0 because of the wacky glasses he wears but thank god Sheldon's voice is much better than Dame Edna's!! lool His song is great but I fear it will cancel out against River & Brividi if it does go thru from Australia Decides.

      omg lol i love that story 😂, especially the part about screenshotting the odds. I think I did the same when Ireland went to 3rd place in 2018 😂
      ok thats super interesting, so it was because of Voyager then. thanks for that info on the odds! i really cant keep track of these things anymore, cos i need to keep spoilers down maximally before I do these vids. Before this channel I used to check songs out as soon as they were released and check how the odds changed, but now i need to wait til ive time to listen to all entries.
      I kinda love that Danny is a Eurofan and has tried several times. Im actually gonna be a bit sad for whoever of the 2 doesnt get to go

      Completely disagree. The online hype for him is heavily weighted by the presence of his fans in these spaces, but the voting public is much larger and he's not nearly as well known to many of them. Voyager has legacy and name recognition and will get the crowd super hyped as the finale act. Don't get me wrong, Sheldon is a great talent and if he wins then thats cool, but people assuming he's got it in the bag have very heavy blinders on and i fear are being led by bias data that doesn't account for all the people who will be voting but don't engage in the online fandom spaces.

    THANKYOU, I've been saying that about Andrew's since it came out. Its designed to be a club banger, and its a great club banger, but something that works for a DJ spinning in the club is not always the best thing to perform live. I hope he finds a way to stage this so it overcomes that but i don't see how at present, its just not that kind of song.

    Electrify intro reminds me of Shakira's "Ojos Así"
    Charley is too ambiental, messy.
    To The Bottom fizzles out, never builds to anything, sadly.
    Bite me is okay, melody isn't anything special. Didn't go all pop, nor all industrial/electronic. Just there.
    When I'm with you sounds like a run of the mill Disney Radio song. Good.
    Little Fires took quite a while to get to its climax. Perhaps a great song in an album.
    We are one sounds like a Dance Dance Revolution cover for a song in the early 90s. And a bad one at that.
    Not the same sounds like a vocal exercise more than a song.
    Australia's entry reminds me of "Memories" by The Urgency. At least it woke me up. Nice. Not especially great, though.
