The lead singer was his wife... the daughter was a recording artist herself and did Grace the stage with her father. Sadly Alex "Dimples" Hinder passed away ealrier this month leaving behind a son and daughter who are both parents in their own right. His music lives on...
@tilakpaul She does have a terrific voice. It's Nell Hinds. She came to the UK in 1958, and Alex 'Dimples' Hinds and Eddie Smith followed in 1960. They formed The Marvels in 1964; they were session singers prior to this. When they toured they were joined by other singers, including Jackie Edwards and Hazel McCauley.
Marvel's I got the great pleasure to be in king spinner dimples was a father to me . To all your beautiful comments makes so proud of I told you today I was thinking bout dimples said is name and I went on you tube and guess what he was there so powerful testament there is a God jus had to share
Hi Could some kind soul out there in the ether world help with the name of the female vocalist. Its pobably someone really well known but forgive me I am a reggae ingonoramus. Her voice gives me goosebumps. A google search reveals a Hazel McCauley as singing with The Marvels but she is introduced as "Nel" in the few seconds not seen in the above TH-cam extract. Thanks
Not bad, but why did they mix up all the lyrics? For example, they left out one of my favorite lines - (Success has gone to your head. You wanna be free...) " Fool, don't you realize, your backbone is me?" It didn't even start with the first verse. Edit: Just listened their cut on the album, "Work your Soul", and it has all the right lyrics, so I guess it's just this performance. I LOVE Edna Wright, but this lady does a good job.
Hi stelladrinka73 That was really sweet of you. Thank you so much . You have made my day! With the surname of Hinds was she she the brother or sister of Alex Hinds? Thanks again. Regards David
Why do UK Jamaican women sing with more soul than women based in Jamaica overall? From Nell Hinds to Beverly Knight, these woman sound similar to Black American soul ladies.
Eddie Smith real name is Edward Smith, he is my dad, may his soul rest in peace.
