Jaime's speech in that episode was so good at explaining why he is what he is. Imagine doing one truly good thing in your life and being absolutely despised for it by almost everyone on the continent. Being famous for killing a king that wanted to murder hundreds of thousands by burning them alive. Ned Stark didn't want Jaime pardoned for his crime. Everyone hated him because of it. So he decided to just say "fuck it" and live life as the person they thought he was - a man with shit for honor.

Yeah, the one thing that's important to understand is that he's talking about how Ned treated him just after Jaime killed the King. Part of the reason (not sure HOW much) Jaime is the unlikable person he is today is because of how he was treated in the past.

I think a lot of people get so shocked by Jaime’s moments of character development that makes viewers like him for a brief moment, Bc they don’t realize how likeable he is from the beginning. Yes, he’s a Lannister, and engages in some sexual activities that I personally would advise against, but viewers often forget that most of the “bad” things he does, he does for his family. Him leading the Lannister armies is no different than Robb, him fighting Ned to demand his brother’s freedom is arguable better than Catelyn taking Tyrion captive, etc. And from the beginning of the show, we see a fan favorite character in Tyrion heap praise upon Jaime, and talk about their bond like they would truly do anything for each other. As much as Jaime comes off as the pretty boy arrogant Prince Charming from Shrek, he’s really Tyrion, if Tywin loved him. We just see the show from the Stark perspective, so we are made to dislike Jaime.

No, he DOES do bad things through the show. Exactly how many, what, and when would be spoilers but there are legitimate reasons to dislike him and think he's a bad person. He's an interesting character with likable moments, absolutely, but he's not someone to put on a pedestal.

@@BassBumbass I mean, as unfair as it is for Bran, at that point if Jaime doesn’t push him out the window, he and Cersei probably at the very least get imprisoned for the rest of their lives, if not killed and a civil war starts anyways. Not to mention, Jaime is probably doomed to do it no matter what thanks to spoilery things later on in the show that I don’t want to mention for Nat’s sake involving a certain old man in a tree. So if you want to argue Jaime is an evil person for pushing Bran out of a tower window versus letting everyone he loves and cares about dying, I guess he’s evil.

Jaime is a douche because in his mind it’s easier to be who everyone thinks you are rather than try and prove them wrong. After he broke his vow and killed the king everyone saw him as a slimy villain so he just went along with it. Don’t get me wrong, what he did to Bran is unforgivable but in a way he’s kind of a tragic character.

Why do people not see the reasons for Jaime pushing Bran. I admit adultery is very long (incestuous adultery even more so) however, if you haad the chance to kill one person to save say 5, it would be ethical to do so, especially if you were saving those you loved. Jaime pushed Bran with intent on murder to save his family from then being executed by Robert Baratheon, which would have most definitely happened if Bran had told someone what he saw. It's not a good thing for Jaime to do, not a bad thing either. Just kinda sad.

You could either direct the train towards one person which will result in them dying, or you could direct the train to say five people, which of course in this example would kill all of them. And its the same idea if you could save five people on a train track if you pushed a fat person in front of the train. It's the same thing, you take a life instead of taking more lives.

Hello, Natalie. Regarding at 09:10: Shireen, the little girl who is the daughter of Stannis, has a disease called Greyscale. Greyscale is feared in the Westeros, as it is both very contagious and almost always fatal. Also, the people who contract it get shunned and usually expelled. They are often considered "unclean", even if they survive (like Shireen - this is part of the reason why she is locked int he tower.).
Best is to think of Greyscale as a mixture of our smallpox (for the contagion factor and the usual deadly outcome) and Leprosy (for the social stigma). I will say no more about this disease for now.

You'd think that if he cared about the well being of the city that he might have killed Aerys BEFORE he was able to put wildfire all over the city. This was a tactical move from a tactical family and will get no sympathy from me for trying to kill a kid for seeing him sleeping with his sister.

its funny, the majority of people, including myself, began to love Jamie from the episode were he saved Brianne from being raped/killed and lost his hand and purpose for his troubles, and then the bath scene solidified his character

This show was one of Diana Rigg's last roles. She was incredible in her role, the sharp tongued grandmother of Natalie Dormer. She was badass in Avengers and as a Bond girl. Probably her best roll, ever!!

@Karl Zaraiva I read the books and as soon as books ended and they had a easy to follow guide the show went to shit. You don’t have to pretend to like something that was dog shot just because the first seasons were good. Stop defending bad work anyone with any sense knows the last season sucked. G R R Martin thinks it sucked and he can’t even finish the series.

@Karl Zaraiva WTF??? Are you defending the last season or what? This WAS a grat show, and the first 6 seasons to me were great, but that doesn't change the fact that the last two seasons were a big downgrade in writting and story and characters development. Everyone has the right to defend what they like and complain about what they don't. I mean, we, the people, are who watch and "consume" the product of the series. If we receive a bad product, we can say we don't like it. Sorry if that bothers you, but Season 7 and 8 were bad seasons, with a really bad quality, and that is not an opinion, is a fact. Is not a "childish petty personal nonsense" like you say. I envy you if the last seasons didn't retroactively ruin the whole series for you, because it definetly did it for me and for a lot of people.

Tywin's backstory is fascinating: his father was a weak lord, and the Lannisters were a laughing stock. Tywin built their power and reputation from nothing, using sheer force of will. Knowing where he's come from really lends context to his actions in the series.
