Thanks for the comment, +mojoworld1! I just want to point out that the bit you quoted isn't entirely accurate, in that the contestants on YBYL were no longer being selected from the audience by this point in the show's run. They stopped doing that fairly early on, though they continued for a while to try to give the **impression** to the viewers that they were still getting contestants right from the audience. The odds on finding an Albert Hall through concerted effort are low enough, let alone that he'd just happen to have been sitting in the audience one day. :) The contestant selection process was very careful, and there was a lot of advance preparation before the show. Groucho never met the contestants beforehand, but the staff did extensive pre-interviews.
Groucho Marx - You Bet Your Life Indeed, I am actually aware of how the show worked as well. Most audience participation shows worked on this premise. Other words, I agree about the audience members being previously selected & used, however going by what is written down in the timeline. That is what I believe I stated. Certainly, Albert Hall’s were probably not just coincidentally in the audiences. However, irrelevant in my opinion. We both agree (I believe) that Mr. Hall & Groucho had a great interaction with Mr. Hall on that show, hysterical quips, physical humor and subtle jabs. All of which made for the perfect comedic storm.

I've watched this probably 50 times over the years. Every time this pops up on my home screen. I still laugh as hard as the first time I saw it. THE FUNNIEST YBYL episode I've seen.
Crazy man....I LOVE IT!!! And to think, I was born just eight days after this episode aired! My parents enjoyed watching television, especially funny, comedic programs, so much so that I've always believed while in the womb, I was able to pick up on humor, laughter, and "having a good time" via my mom and dad! Just like the "experts" claim that playing music or reading out loud or even talking directly to the unborn-child can actually cause the child to "be a step ahead" of those who were not purposefully given these direct gifts. Quite fascinating to study. My mom told me she did a lot of these things with/for me (back in 1955) that she didn't always do, as much, with my brothers. My parents knew I was destined for the entertainment world right when I was born: I slipped right out, into a standing position, and did my very first stand-up routine!! Oh, Groucho...you taught me well, you fool!!😉
16:05 last couple. Groucho was prepared to fight when he took off his coat and did his boxing pose. Albert Hall is a funny guy just being himself and his country friendly mannerism.
I thought perhaps Albert Hall was an actor, which were known to be featured periodically on the show, but IMDB documents only this single TV appearance as his legacy. He certainly had a unique set of mannerisms ... I can't imagine working with this guy at a newspaper.
These are gems...Thx to Groucho Marx-You Bet Your Life, for finding these and sharing them...they bring back memories of my Dad on his easy chair, laughing along with me and my siblings at the hilarity of the "one and only.....Groucho." ^/^
People had so much class and tact back then. That 21 year-old woman with Albert Hall had more class, intellect, and refinement then many women 10 to 30 years older, today.
How did I never know this show existed?! It’s such a great show. I also had no idea Groucho was so amazing 😄 The guy with the scary eyes seems like the devil 😭
That first couple are so cute together. I'd love to think they both eloped after this episode. Also Groucho is so good. Funny and edgy but natural and warm. Thanks uploader.
Thank You for posting the videos of YBYL. Its a real pleasure to watch and try see what part of America was like in the 50's. Although the money they win doesn't seem like a lot in 2015, but to adjust for the 60 year difference, the $440 won in 1955 would be about 4,000 in todays dollars. Now I can understand why they get excited when they win a few hundred. I wonder if the IRS was there for their part like they are today. I think its anything over $599 that now requires a lot of forms and SS#'s and the IRS gets paid 1st. TY again for taking the time and effort to post.
I've seen the shorter Albert Hall clip before, and he was hysterical. This one shows the whole episode, and he seemed like a very nice guy. And he was lucky with the partner he had... June was as smart as a whip.
Groucho Marx-You Bet Your Life Love that you've made these available for viewing. My first exposure to the show was on cable TV in the '80's. The Family Channel, I believe it was, used to show them sometime between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. Monday thru Friday. Later I went to the library and found the series collected on DVD and really enjoyed what I saw. The set included bonus features like outtakes and bloopers and even a stag reel sent out to sponsors that while racy for the time would be mild by today's standards. One question I remember Groucho asking was what is the only state bordered by 8 states and was originally the state of Franklin. I could have kicked myself when I forgot it was my own home state of Tennessee! Hope you continue this and please try not to be discouraged by keyboard imbeciles. Thanks again!

Hall on that show, hysterical quips, physical humor
and subtle jabs. All of which made for the perfect comedic storm.
mojoworld1 I was only correcting the information that you quoted, not you personally. I don't know what you know or don't know personally. :)
It is all good natured. No offense taken nor intended. (“< 💬 >”) Were just talking.
@@grouchomarx-youbetyourlife7476If you're still here after eight years, are you saying "Albert Hall" was a "setup?" I want to think it wasn't fixed that's terrible
Thank you for uploading this marvelous episode. Albert Hall (October 1886-August 1964) and Groucho's reactions were hilarious. Like another commenter, I also wonder if Mr. Hall was a tad tipsy before appearing on the show, or if he was just a ham.. As always, many thanks and blessings for keeping the memory of Groucho Marx, George Fenneman, and You Bet Your Life alive and well.
He was just hamming it up, according to George Fennerman on the Best Of a Groucho VHS tape from the 1970's.
Hello, Sister! May I ask how you came by Albert Hall’s month and year of death? Thanks!
@@GrantTarredus I Googled his name and birth date and a lot of his information pulled up
@@pbailey232 Thanks very much!
@@GrantTarredus your welcome!!
That guy should have gone straight to an agent and become a character actor. He's an absolute classic.
DJ, I agree! I can see him in a scene with W.C. Fields. W.C. would have had a field day with that guy.
That's exactly what I thought...How this guy didn't end up in Hollywood I have no idea!
Mr. Hall bears a strong resemblance to Kenneth Copeland, the crazed "HA Ha Ha" preacher and charlatan.
@@citetez Uncanny resemblance but Copeland a far stranger and evil dude
@@petesmith8886 because he’s absolutely insane
I am personally glad you posted these videos they remind me of those days and times with fond memories. Groucho was absolutely one of the comic classics of all time. I watched each and every one and haven't laughed so much in I can't remember. Absolute joy.
He was also halarious on What's My Line.
I sure laughed when the elderly lady talked about not being able to get a rise out of her husband - Groucho’s expression was priceless‼️
The 50s were pure class. This was around four months before James Dean tragically left us and six months before Marty McFly time travelled into classic Hill Valley. Grouchos quick wit and deadpan humour is timeless
I never laughed so hard as I did on this episode with the redoubtable Mr. Hall
Agreed: He's uniquely hilarious
Nor did I.
That guy was a hoot!! I wondered if he was a paid actor.
@@halibut1249 - Absolutely not. Back then people were free to be themselves, and were. There was no zealot ready to scream at him for offending them. This is exactly the sort of thing we have lost.

Albert Hall, the funniest man on T.V.!
I had tears coming down my eyes.. I'm not one who laughs alot. I was caught off guard.
This is one of the first TV show I remember from my childhood.
Groucho was brilliant. He knew Albert Hall was the meal ticket that night and he played off of him perfectly.
At 5:50. "That's like living in Las Vegas and going all the way to Cedar Rapids to play bingo for a church bizaare". That's a great line I'll have to use sometime. 😂😅🤣
The Hall segment reveals the power of comedic timing, and what a master Groucho is of it.
thank you so much for sharing this. I seriously cried laughing so hard!!! made my night....
Nice to see some sane comments being added to this video for a change. . . glad you enjoyed it. This is one of the funniest YBYLs I've ever seen.
couldnt agree more, i sent it to a bunch of my friends who thought the same :)
Excellent. Thanks very much.
16:05 last couple. Groucho was prepared to fight when he took off his coat and did his boxing pose. Albert Hall is a funny guy just being himself and his country friendly mannerism.
I've watch the Albert Hall segment about twenty times and laugh as hard every time.
Mr. Albert Hall is a giant gem 💍 I would love to have met him in person. I’m sure I’ve seen characters done like him in some Marx brothers movies.
Timeless humor and effectively addictive...
wow... the first girl was so naturally pretty
Great episode! The guy should've been hired as an actor immediately and put in either comedy or horror films. Great expressions on that guy.
I thought perhaps Albert Hall was an actor, which were known to be featured periodically on the show, but IMDB documents only this single TV appearance as his legacy. He certainly had a unique set of mannerisms ... I can't imagine working with this guy at a newspaper.
How wonderful!
Oh to have a good laugh while the world goes mad!
These are gems...Thx to Groucho Marx-You Bet Your Life, for finding these and sharing them...they bring back memories of my Dad on his easy chair, laughing along with me and my siblings at the hilarity of the "one and only.....Groucho." ^/^
Thanks for this show, I enjoyed it when I was a kid and am having a great time watching it again:D
I'd love to see Albert Hall do the "Slowly I turned" routine.
Absolutely! OMG, he'd be incredible.
A 3 Stooges' bit ? Yeah, no doubt he'd be xcln't at it. What about, this guy playing "Johnny" the lost brother in "Arsenic And Old Lace" ?
LOL!! 8-)
Great comment!
That would be really fucking creepy with them EYES
Hellham
People had so much class and tact back then.
That 21 year-old woman with Albert Hall had more class, intellect, and refinement then many women 10 to 30 years older, today.
What absolute class these two young people have
How did I never know this show existed?! It’s such a great show. I also had no idea Groucho was so amazing 😄
The guy with the scary eyes seems like the devil 😭
These episodes were later shown in syndication as "The Best Of Groucho"-This is a bonafide classic.

Thanks for posting this...my all-time favorite episode!
I find many people on this show with alot of background that is terrific..and..they come from all parts of the world..
19:40 cracks me up the way Groucho casually just asks 'Homicide?' XD
Groucho and his brothers ROCK!!! I've almost died laughing a few times; I can't get enough!!!
Thank you so much for uploading these classic shows.
Loved this one! Thanks for posting, gave me such a great laugh!

This Is One Of The Best Episodes.
GOD, made me laugh so hard at the part with Albert Hall! 😂😂😂😂 whew tears of laughter :D
Groucho is another "blast from the past!" What an original comedian - with wit and outrageous humor! His banter with the 'gargantuan' was the best! Who would ever suspect such a character? LOVED IT!
All time favorite episode so funny 😂
Some one should have give Mr. Hall his own show. Doesn't matter the format nor the content, it would be just as entertaining.
This was one of Groucho's funniest episodes. I'm grateful for these uploads, thanks!
