Patch Notes since the release of this guide: 7.1 Patch Notes: Esuna is now instant! Prognosis, Eukrasian Diagnosis and Prognosis all cost 100 less MP. Dosis, Toxikon and Pneuma do slightly more damage. Philosophia now heals in a larger radius.
Ah Sage. My first healer. Funny how it seems complex on the surface, but after you hear an explanation of the abilities, the hardest part is telling one ability apart from another because there’s just so much blue in the icons 😂
For anyone trying Sage that is running out of healing during dungeon pulls: You need to practice how you stack buffs on the tank. Remember that, as a general rule, you need to have EXACTLY TWO buffs active on the tank at all times, beginning as soon as they have rounded up enemies. Specifically, you want to combine a damage mitigation (Kerachole or Taurochole) with either a shielding or regen effect (Physis, Haima, or Soteria). If you only use one of these at a time then you don't give these effects enough time to handle incoming damage, and on the flipside, regularly using more than 2 at a time means you will use up your abilities too quickly. I really struggled with healing output when first learning Sage, and practicing this completely fixed it.
A tip for keeping your mp up. Keep your addersgall timer rolling from the moment you have to use your first one. Druochole is great for this purpose since it has no cooldown, so if you notice you're about to hit 3 addersgall, throw a druochole at someone. You get 700 mp every 20 seconds, whoever you threw the Druochole at gets a good heal, and your timer keeps rolling, and on top of that you can give yourself another addersgall if you have 1 in the chamber so you don't accidentally overcap on them.
@CaetsuChaijiCh indeed, which is why you shouldn't spend *all* of your addersgall and keep at least a couple in reserve for use on Kerachole/Taurochole/Ixochole depending on the circumstances.
The names and icons for abilities has been what has kept me from trying the class. I remember being overwhelmed during the job unlock quest and ran immediately back to white mage and havent looked back. Now that ive started learning dark knight i feel like i can handle giving sage a shot again
I couldn’t play SGE at all when I first tried, too many things at once but my preferred method to learn what everything was is doing deep dungeons. If you only start with one or two spells and see them get added it feels less crazy to learn imo
When I unlocked SGE (last week) and went on to meet Lalah, I’ve completely switched to main SGE to protecc Lalah. At first, I was lost in the alphabet soup and similarly looking icons, but after spamming SGE for a whole week to lv 80, it’s just muscle memory now. Thanks for the guide which gives a lot more nuances to optimizing SGE rotation 🙏
read this and thought it was my own comment somehow because i have definitely said "protecc Lalah" xD but also my SGE story main is more or less the same, except several months ago lol.. that is, i met Lalah, wanted to protecc Lalah but i almost gave up right after failing the first job quest duty so many times (it is quite a challenging one) and it was my first healer job too. but i found @CaetsuChaijiCh's old SGE guide and studied the heck out of it and managed to get thru the duty and have fallen in love with the job since (and thanks to these videos i learned and internalized the proper Greek pronunciations :D)
8:30 another issue with diagnosis is that it takes longer to cast than eukrasian diagnosis for less total health potency diagnosis takes 1.5(affected by spell speed) seconds to cast with the 2.5 recast time. Eukrasian diagnosis takes an eukrasia cast(1 second of gcd) and then it's instant. the same total recast if you count eukrasia+E. diagnosis meaning that the healing from eukrasian diagnosis happens earlier than the heal from diagnosis, so even in emergencies when you somehow ran out of resources(say you dumped basically everything on yourself during a w2w because you didn't target the tank) you're still better off just spamming eukrasian diagnosis than spamming diagnosis, despite using more spells and then I'd argue in normal content, if your shield isnt breaking it means you got time to just heal with Kardia, whereas if the shield breaks, you just use E.diagnosis again I consider diagnosis on par with cure I on the whole meme
You're probably right overall, I think the cases where you would actually need diagnosis for anything at all are exceptionally niche. As you said, kardia is probably fine if the shield isn't breaking fast enough! 😅
Oooh that would be very interesting as well! Although it might feel awkward when there is nothing that needs healing that you just spam healing anyway 😂
Nice guide. I've mostly played WHM and AST as healers. SCH is an enigma to me, but I was eventually able to understand SGE. One of the things that's still odd to me is the MP economy. Is it really correct for me to just be spending an Addersgall when no healing is needed, just to restore my MP? Just using Lucid doesn't seem to be enough. Also, I respect that you want to pronounce the ability names accurately, but I think it would be helpful to also say the name once in a way that's closer to how most players will probably pronounce it (incorrect as it may be). I can imagine having some difficulty understanding which abilities you're talking about if one is just listening to this video while they have the game (or something else) open.
Thank you! Yes it is perfectly normal to just druo yourself for some mp if nothing else calls for it! 😊 Well, I do have the tooltips on screen most of the time when I talk about it to I feel like that means the person listening will have to whip their head around and see what I mean I suppose! 😁 But I get what you mean. Although I specifically made a particular point of using the more wild Greek pronunciations for the addersgall options, as it also makes them stand out more! 😊
Even following this guide I have had my players die in the first 25 seconds of every single dungeon I've tried to run so far. I've leveled EVERY other healing class to 100 and main astrologician. The way my brain works must be special as fuck because I can't figure this class out to save my life. This is what we call a pay for a skip and finish the final 10 levels in Frontline. My second worse class dark knight and third monk are the only ones I gave up trying to level conventionally.
I'd argue sage is the best healer at 50 you got 3 charges of an instant ogcd heal, you barely need to heal in the first place if your tanks are using their mits right cuz you're healing while attacking and everyone is overgeared. you can give your tank a mit if they aren't using one I take 50 SGE over 50 WHM any day
try doing Lost City of Amdapor (lvl 50) as a White Mage and get back to me when you cry and wipe 3 times because you have no instant cast heals and get cure 2 interrupted every single time by random poison and die in the first 5 seconds of the first boss. (totally didn't happen to me)
If any devs see this please never add a class as complicated again.Especially the next healer no class should ever be more complicated as this or even as complicated.

So much blue, and then also the weird names! 😂
FACTS!!!!!!😂
Time to make macros for every skill just to get some colour diversity in that palette.

Great tip. This has helped a ton!! Thank you!
Thank you for mentioning a Sage should check the party list before shielding when paired with a Scholar.
May the spreadlo be with you
Haha! Maybe it'll help a bit! 😁

I learned sage by unlocking it 20 seconds before doing my first ever PoTD 100 stages and got a crash course on how to play a healer
The names and icons for abilities has been what has kept me from trying the class. I remember being overwhelmed during the job unlock quest and ran immediately back to white mage and havent looked back. Now that ive started learning dark knight i feel like i can handle giving sage a shot again
I hope your second try with the job goes better! It is one of those with a pretty high expectation from the start! 😅
I couldn’t play SGE at all when I first tried, too many things at once but my preferred method to learn what everything was is doing deep dungeons. If you only start with one or two spells and see them get added it feels less crazy to learn imo
Great video. First healer I decided to give a shot and love it.
I'm glad my guide could help you get started! 😁

Omg ty! I had asked for a Sage guide a few weeks back and you delivered.
I hope it met expectations! 😁
@@CaetsuChaijiCh it answered a lot of questions I had, ty! :)
I like Sage, and I'll definitely look up this vid when leveling it, but I really want a job that does damage by healing.
Oooh that would be very interesting as well! Although it might feel awkward when there is nothing that needs healing that you just spam healing anyway 😂
please do a rotation guide for dawntrail monk, my friend is struggling with the class. great video as always. xD
Well good news because that one is in the works right now actually! 😁
I'm so happy someone finally pronounced pneuma the right way 🤩
P.S. I'm Greek 🤣
I'm glad I got it right! 😁

? He pronounced everything completely reasonably and clearly.
your greek speeling is really good
Thank you! 😄
Sage from 70-100 but no 1-70? I feel we lost a video xD
Well it's not exactly like I had a tendency to make guides all the way from the start on jobs starting at so high levels! 😅
@@brontome if you REALLY want a 1-70, wait a bit for Weskalber’s video. He does 1-100 in each video

Kinda glad that healers dont *need* roulette to level because this class is terrible at anything lower than 70 lol
I dunno, sage is actually almost as insane as Scholar in the 1-60 range! 😂
I'd argue sage is the best healer at 50

Kardia does the a large amount of the work by itself before 70 and you get Addersgall at like 50. I'm not sure how that is "terrible."
