      its not that hard. the hard part is learning what you need and how / where to get it. Then gaining the experience of how to design and work with plastic.
      If you have a local electronic wastes center, you could get a lot of the components for the printer very cheap. And if you can get someone to print you a few parts you could use ptfe bushings and save in bearings plus it will be a lot quieter or have a few pullies printed and use that along any belt you may find (mxl, t2,5, etc) and also save in belts and pullies.

      THE ROGUE I would suggest to not let it run out of filament. Instead, change it right before the motor pushes the last bit through. Most printers should have an option to change filaments. I know some printers will let you restart printing where it left off, but I think you kin of have to guess where it stopped printing. Hope that helps

  • @davecaldwell5188
    @davecaldwell5188 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've been trying unsuccessfully to make my plane at a different angle on the path. Is there a way to do this so that the plane is close to flat or say rotated around 10 deg as it would be seen from the middle of the side. Does that make sense to you? it didn't seem hard to describe until I started typing lol

    Very cool video Muse, I have a question though. Could you show how to make the diamonds staggered? Like every other diamond was shifted the 'empty' rows between the current ones? That would make it look more like dragon/fish scales.

    • @zacozacoify
      @zacozacoify 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      spysee fan I I understand what you mean correctly, why not make 2 of the paths going up next to each other, each offset and with half as many objects/spikes on them, then rotate that around?

  • @nobocks
    @nobocks 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I got a question : Can you test a to print a pla object and dip it into a acetone + abs "slur", then make it dry and vapor acetone on it to see if it smooth and have a better heat handle ? I think its a good way, saw some theory on forums but i dont have abs at home ( mine can only print pla ).

    • @MakersMuse
      @MakersMuse  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Nobock there's a product called plastidip that does a similar thing, worth trying!

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hypothesize that PLA prints will still heat-warp easily even if you coat them over. Whether you can smooth them like that at least? I have no idea. I expect that as liquid gains surface tension by drying from outside in, it will bridge over the layer gap and it will come out smooth, so you wouldn't need to acetone-smooth it.
      I don't think PlastiDip is suitable, or does anything alike. I recall it's a naturally colourless elastomer (Shore 70A) that doesn't really stick to anything particularly well, in a volatile solvent.

    • @nobocks
      @nobocks 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      last week i painted a jewl with graffity paint and apply a coat with nail polish it start to make the paint bleed after 5 sec and it smooth it very nice. But if you go too slow you got some blobs.

    Would've been cool to print the egg in two parts with a keyed connection for a full egg. Or even do the same thing but with the egg split vertically into two halves, which might be easier on the printer for complex shapes.
    Would also be cool to introduce spiral patterning, instead of just vertical patters, or maybe even do horizontal patterns.

      +Xander Zoolander gotta keep the cad for newbies tutes simple, but more advanced ones coming for sure including threads and multi component modelling

  • @taleg1
    @taleg1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It needs to be hollow and and have a split to remove the top 1/3 with a easy attach and remove mechanisms between top and bottom (maybe twist to release). Then you could fill it with "dragon" candy or sweets.. Even cooler if it was made with two materials, the egg in solid and the spikes in a flexible material.. And maybe slightly transparent....
    Take it as a challenge if you will..
    If I could afford a 3D printer I know I would try to make one just to see if I could (but my money is gone due to long term sickness), but one day...

    Why don't you include the creation of a hexagonal pattern into one of your next tutorials?! I'm trying to cover a plane with hexagons spaced out little, kind of like honey combs. But I feel it's harder with hexagon than with squared... That'd be nice ;)

    • @MakersMuse
      @MakersMuse  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Chris definitely possible but a little challenging! You need to create a linear pattern, then another but at a 45 degree angle using one of the hex edges as a guide, then you can linear pattern the whole lot to fill an area.

    • @HDThorUs

    • @Geilisa91
      @Geilisa91 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curling off the bed or curling from the piece, like the edge printing doesn't lay flat on the last layer?

    • @officialraccoonstudios_2317

    Sooo... after changing the orientation from identical to Path direction, my bodies are still floating about 20mm above the actual path... did i miss something? (instead of a diamond shape, i used a circle of 10mm diameter, extruded with a 45° taper angle if that makes a difference. Otherwise i followed step by step.)

    • @MakersMuse
      @MakersMuse  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      they definitely do intersect, the center of the circle is right on the intersecting path... Guess I'll play around a bit more. If i cant get it to work, I'll try with 123D or onshape... maybe those will get me closer to the one I have in mind.

    • @crossthreadaeroindustries8554
      @crossthreadaeroindustries8554 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know how anybody gets anything with fine detail to print correctly from Sketchup. I created a hex screen pattern for the base of a simple 150x100mm tray and sketchup wouldn't output a printable stl. I went back to fusion 360 and never looked back. I have had not problems with it. It does have a long learning curve but, to me, it is an investment. I lost three weeks of heavy time investment in Sketchup before I realized it was doomed. As I said, I don't know how people are getting away with Sketchup when it failed one of my earliest designs.

      One problem I had was I would save something as a component, and it was fine - printed Ok after using ThomThom's extension. The next time I used the component it was full of faults - that was when I bailed on SU. I think the interface is user friendly, I had a steady rate of progress learning the system as it is heavily supported on youtube, but that kind of error was too much to accept.

    Lots of info here, but you're going waaay too fast.
    And on the second rectangle co-incident... I constantly get an error? Maybe it was another constraint?
    Thanks for this though.. I hope for more.
    Cheers,

      Update, on the 2nd co-incident... I figured out it was the _line itself_ (constraining rectangle vertex) that was the reference. The first one was the line _vertex_ constraining the rectangle vertex.

      Pretty good way to model a cactus too! Just make it less egg shaped.
