great video! i was researching my next roaster and ran across this one. it's 2x my stretch budget, but man it looks amazing and checks all the boxes. it appears the cleaning is pretty straight forward, tho you'd think they'd make it a little easier to disassemble (like 'quick disconnects-type fasteners' instead of all the screws...but then, i gather the full breakdown isn't required that often). again, thanks for this!

Thanks for the vid, much appreciated to see a little more than just people roasting.
You should get some proper hex screwdrivers though. Having the right tools for the job makes all the difference ;)

jakke - thanks for your sage advice - I have a garage full of tools, nothing wrong with using an Allen key - if used correctly, besides there’s no real torque involved in any of the fittings one needs to remove to access the bottom of the Cormorant.

Is this lower area of the roaster all that needs to be cleaned? What about the drum area does that need to be disassembled and cleaned as part of the regular maintenance every four or five roasts?

    • @beanobsessedroasters9073

The lower area needs to be cleaned probably every 20 roasts or so, depends on your roasting style. Never clean the drum. However for a deep clean further disassembly is required, all very straight forward though, unless you are completely ham fisted.

Thanks for sharing. It seems to be a really nice machine. Looks like a sturdy machine. It also looks nimble enough to use in the house with good enough ventilation or in the shed. How do you rate it?
    Cheers from Sweden.

Well truth be told Peter - I absolutely love it. It really is very compact for what is does - roasting indoors would not be a problem - in fact it's how I saw it demonstrated - in Johan's smallish workshop - so long as the exhaust vent is correctly "vented" i.e. outside..

I could really consider it. Looks great, you got controls and control. Been looking at a used Sonofresco but.. Thanks again.
      Cheers, Peter

Seems like the fans would melt. It's pulling roaster gas, no?

    • @beanobsessedroasters9073

holdtheonionsplease The fans are specifically rated for high temperature use - as far as I’m aware they’ve been very reliable. They’re also not an expensive part to replace should the need arise. The Cormorant is a gas roaster with a very efficient IR ceramic burner.

@@beanobsessedroasters9073 Yes, I just noticed that the burner is rectangular and not circular as in my Huky. That has to be a bit more efficient. Great video. Thanks!

I just looked them up at the manufacturers website (Sunon). They are made for working temperatures of 70° celsius max. Amazing that they seem to stand almost triple the heat. I wonder why Johan (creator of the roaster) trusts these cheap (around 20 Euro) plastic toys. But as long as they work ... a real heat resistant vent is MUCH more expensive.

How many roasts in before you feel the need to clean it?

    • @beanobsessedroasters9073
      @beanobsessedroasters9073  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Cullen Colapietro - I normally give the outsides of the fan blades a quick vacuum clean every 10 roasts or so - Full clean every 50 or so roasts. The point is that it’s so easy to clean. If you clean regularly - then it’s a quick and easy wipe down - can be done in 20mins - if you let it build up - it takes longer.

@@beanobsessedroasters9073 Those fans look a lot like computer fans... and we all know how long they last in dusty environments. Did you ever have to replace them and if so, what are the specs?
