Lived on Southgate and had some of the Best years of my life living there. Then they built Hallwood Park and things were never the same. That vid just brought back loadsa memories.
I remember videoing Legoland when it was on BBC News Northwest in around August/ 1990. They interviewed former residents. I still have the video tape after all those years and can’t find it on TH-cam. Today, they would make this a Grade 2 listed building if it was still standing. It was designed by a famous architect. Demolition had just started when it was on the news.
Thanks for posting this (over 10 years ago). This was a slightly random youtube find for me - with quite an emotional impact. My old house appears briefly at 04:30. Southgate had problems; but it had character too.
crazy looking at this, i lived in parkers square in the mid 80s for about 4 years as a kid from liverpool i,d never seen anything like it, got some really great memorys. the youth club used to be on the block behind ours.
Welldone for uploading this and I like it so thumbs up. It would've been good if they'd had videoed the destruction of Norton Priory County High School back in 2002. It's good for posterity I suppose especially for those who hated the place but not so for those who may have liked it.
Anyone remember chris Smith and john Burke 78-79 we lived in the green three storey houses rosam grove was OK then but heard it became a shit hole soon after we left, used to hang about with Darren Hill aswell, I used to hate Norton priory school that was a fuckin yomp wen we had to walk it every day fuckin place horrible teachers, used to love the Southgate disco to be fair there was one every week in some part of runcorn, Castlefields, murders haw, etc we prob got out just in time not that we were there for long, good memories though lived in worse places after that....

Hi Joe. I'm beginning an art project on the Southgate Estate and was wondering if I could get in contact with you?
Very interesting! sad an interesting building could not be repurposed or reimagined. What replaced it was... suburban banality
Southgate was a rat run, one way in one way out. All the other estates were better.
