It’s not just the US that neglects the rest of the world. A video in Japanese neglects the rest of the world because Japan is the only country that speaks Japanese. Videos are made by certain people, for certain people.
As an European, I enjoy that you used the metric system as well so all us non-Americans can understand it. And you made it funny, +1, keep up the very great job!
I know exactly how far away one lightning strike was because I got hit by it! I'm not lying, I have been struck by lightning and I can still remember what it was like, it's one thing you will never forget. There was a blinding white flash, and at the same time thunder louder than I'd ever heard it before, and while that was going on, my entire body felt like I'd plugged myself into an electrical socket. To this day I have no idea how I survived. I still live storms tho.
Strickland should be short with thick black glasses and dark unruly hair! Anyone else having the imaginary version/real life version collision!! I love all of you! Thanks for keeping our minds entertained and learning, even on you tube!
Thanks for the honest feedback, Limezik. If you watch the video, you'll see that Jonathan and I include explanations using both the imperial and metric system. The metric system measurements begin around 1:48.
Lifeguards have used this technique for years. Although you were trying to keep it simple, you might observe that sound does not travel at the same speed at all altitudes and temperatures. As a general rule, the higher up you go, the slower sound travels. That is why lighting that is close sounds like a sharp crack of a whip, while lightning farther away sounds like a rumble--some of the sound gets to you faster. Then you have the issue of sound reflecting off of layers of air and so forth---anyway. . . .
hahaha I thought you were commenting that Vsauce made a video about lightning strike and timing to thunder. I couldnt stop yawning after watching that hahahha
Have you ever wondered how you can figure out how far away lightning struck? Have no fear, today's episode of Brain Stuff has you covered. Watch as Jonathan Strickland and Ben of Stuff They Don't Want You To Know dive in: How Can You Figure Out How Far Away Lightning Struck?
Omg wtf theres lighting in my place and it keeps going from 2 to 4 second and its so loud. Ok its quickly starting to get less loud but it keeps happening from 4 or 5 seconds to 10 or 12
and by the way why thousand millions is embarrassing? maybe for USA, maybe using Kilometers is embarrassing too? oh wait no its not, the whole freaking planet use thousand millions and kilometers.
Imagine having to change EVERY road sign, every map, every "mile" marker, in the United States. It wouldnt only be costly, but incredibly confusing. The international system is WAY better. Having conversions actually leads to scientific mistakes, but it would be a HUGE task. Let us live in peaceful stupidity.
yeahp. But I dont think you have to change everything.. like change is not do from night to morning, you can begin adding the system slowly, what I mean is, instead of changing all the signs just add the km/h too, this will help both USA citizens and foreigners that are used to IS units. and instead of reteaching the system, just teach both systems like we do in here we have to learn the stupid English system because USA use it... which is extremely dumb
I’m trying to sleep but I honestly cant I’m scared to drink water out of my fridge shower and touch water how am I supposed to drink water I’m not gonna drink until the thunderstorm goes away
cuz yea, climbing treez is liek heaps important and stuff hey... yea i bet he is liek supa gud at stuff and stuff hey cuz liek yea!! teh worlld neeeds more poeople who can climb treez..
the thing is.. the English system its dumb, the International system is way better, but someone told me will be to expensive to change to international system... LOL USA so you waste thousand millions on airplanes but you cant change your system because its too expensive? yeah thats really smar.
sure it will cost trillions hahah acording to your system trillions is like a billion in our system... and yeah thousand millions is the right term for normal people... you call billion what normal people call it thousand millions.
You did not just miss a letter. Your whole post was incoherent drivel and just ridiculous. First off, it's not the "English" system, It's the American system. Secondly using the term "thousand millions" is just plain embarrassing. Lastly, the United States is the third largest country in the world with the third highest population in the world. Changing to metric would be an enormous proposition. They have bigger fish to fry. Take your stupidity elsewhere.
Downvoted due to your open disdain for the metric system. I mean what if the time between the strike and hearing the clap was 9s? Your argument falls apart quite quickly and I'm from the UK, so yeah the 5s rule for miles is quite handy but it's only convenient when the time falls into nice 5s chunks.
good work on the metric, most US vids usually neglect the rest of the world :)

There's a thunder storm right now.. REEEEEEE!
It's about 3 seconds. Oh well, tell my kids I love them.
As an European, I enjoy that you used the metric system as well so all us non-Americans can understand it. And you made it funny, +1, keep up the very great job!

lucky for you bro you survived!
now you can run really really fast like the flash, right?
I really hope this never happens to me, it’s the only reason I don’t like thunder
JUST USE THE FRICKIN METRIC SYSTEM LIKE A SMART PERSON
Strickland should be short with thick black glasses and dark unruly hair! Anyone else having the imaginary version/real life version collision!! I love all of you! Thanks for keeping our minds entertained and learning, even on you tube!
I'm American, and I prefer the metric system.

Would love to see a video related to creativity :D
awesome videos keep it up guys ...!
hahaha

How Can You Figure Out How Far Away Lightning Struck?
Awesome video! Just Subscribed!
METRIC PEOPLE THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE SIENCE!
err for metric you count from the lightning to when you hear the thunder, multiply it by 7 and then divide by 5. This will give the correct distance
multiply by 7?? the feck? complicated bs.
Or just divide by 3 like they said lol
Me too, Brian. Excellent idea!
very funny! was laughing for hours
Like in Lighting hours or hours hours?
Im watching this during Corona and it really helps thanks
Why is Ben being nice to the Quizzster
Thanks for doing the metric conversion for confused ppl like me 😂
Good thing you did with the metric system....i was about to calculate on my own painfully....Thank god :D
Thank you for making me laugh during the thunderstorm!! :D
Thank you, very useful!
Well it doesn't really work well for meteor shock waves or something way more common aircraft engine noise.
every white person ever be like
thunder: * exists *
white person: one... two... three... four...
lightning: * exists *
white person: four miles away!
How do you work out how powerful a lightning strike is like the rumble after ?
I use both old english system and metric. I'm 20 in Canada, always switching between the two standards.
Around the Puget sound, there was this lightning storm which happened all night, and each second lightning kept hitting.
Omg wtf theres lighting in my place and it keeps going from 2 to 4 second and its so loud. Ok its quickly starting to get less loud but it keeps happening from 4 or 5 seconds to 10 or 12
Thanks guys
I cant calculate the distance coz like after the light there are more lights and then sound then more thus it is hard for me to find the distance
To cool our brains.
We barely take in more oxygen (if any at all) than just normal breathing when we yawn.
How far does the sound of thunder travel?
Good video :D
Y'all watched this because there's lightning in your area? I watched this because of homework.
I think I hear thunder on almost the other side of my state so I’m watching this now
What if it’s half a second cuz it took less then a second for me
lol i enjoyed this episode
Great stuff
Why just lightning? surely this would work for like explosions or a really loud man
and by the way why thousand millions is embarrassing? maybe for USA, maybe using Kilometers is embarrassing too? oh wait no its not, the whole freaking planet use thousand millions and kilometers.
There was a meteor that fell from the sky but I can't tell where it fell so can we calculate that?!
you wouldn't need to go for 3.3333333333...3333 just 3.333 would be fine since you are within a 1M margin of error

Dude...your not zeus. Hahaha
Lol
Who's watching because there is lightning in your place?
Top of the hill in Onett.
still love storms, not still live storms, stupid keyboard.
nice video
fuck dis, i'm british. we still use miles for distence when traveling.
Americans do too
What's with the swearing swearing is not allowed on here and I found being polite is better
Stephen Snell fucc you mean 🅱️
Thank for dual unit systems ;)
Metric units please.
I don't what I'm doing with mine, either
You guys are just great! THIS VID HELPED 1,000 KG! (which is a metric ton.) THANK YOU! :)
I assumed this works for like nukes too right?
American college student here studying Biotechnology. Fuck the imperial system... metric all the way.
I love it!!!
It's Jamie without his hat :D
Wow you were first
gifted and talented*
Wow, I thought everyone knows this, has our education system really gotten that bad?
I've been doing it wrong my whole life.....lol.
Yeah it's Science if you can spell!
Its actually km per 3 sec.
thanks, i now know that the lightning that striked my house is 1 meter away! god bless 🙏 🙏
Who here from tropical places that is raining right now?
I just wanted to switch to a video which will tell in metric system. And the next moment they mentioned it.
Glad i subscribed hahas

this video doesn't help that stereotype actually.
That was AWESOME
I’m trying to sleep but I honestly cant I’m scared to drink water out of my fridge shower and touch water how am I supposed to drink water I’m not gonna drink until the thunderstorm goes away

Take too long dom
sure it will cost trillions hahah acording to your system trillions is like a billion in our system... and yeah thousand millions is the right term for normal people... you call billion what normal people call it thousand millions.
I wanted to subscribe but then I saw Imperial Units... Lame
I subbed, just to unsub, the hate for metric and the whole thing felt like a science show for 8 year olds.
