    Hi Ray.
    In the late 60s i left school and went straight to the National Sea Training School in Gravesend where i trained as deck hand. My first Ship was a Collier running coal from Blyth on the Northeast coast to power stations on the Thames. One of my fondest memories was seeing the local fishing Cobel's coming and going in the North sea. The sound of their Lister engines was unmistakable. At night you could hear them miles away.
    Very calming.
    Happy days.

      Hi Michael, That's interesting. I didn't know that Lister engines were used on fishing boats. They seem to have been used for just about everying on farms etc.

    I love those old engines, I have a Southern Cross EFE 6HP. I restored it over 20 years ago.

    Marvellous site, watching a vintage engine. The sound could lend itself to a music track creation. Things like this are to be relished in today's world of disappearing 20th century bygones.

    If the tap is leaking on the tapper, you can lap it with some brasso. Works well.

    I’d love to own a 8/1 800 rpm diesel but they are VERY expensive here in the USA.

    A knockoff version is built in India, and we have an importer here in Canada. People use them for powering backup generators and other things because of the hit and miss they are very fuel economical to use.

    • @g4nsj
      @g4nsj  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they are excellent little engines.

    LOL Ray! You may not have said it, but we ALL heard it. Now let's hook up that engine to a generator and work POTA. I wonder what class that would fall under. 73 OM.

    • @g4nsj
      @g4nsj  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a genny hooked up is a great idea.

  • @Wyowanderer
    @Wyowanderer ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Old Lister engines don't leak oil or fuel - they're just marking their spot 😀
    Did you rebuild it?
    Thanks for the tutorial!

    • @g4nsj
