Wait a minute… Tataru is an omnicrafter. I’ve made a theory before that Crafting, specifically Synthesis, is an unrefined form of Ancient Creation Magic that requires raw materials and rituals (at least pretend you’re using a saw) in addition to a Concept (aka recipe in the log) and aether (aka crystals). *gasp* Could it be that Tataru’s Carbuncle is a true Creation?! She crafted a permanent being!
I would actually categorize Lyse as a Monk+ as she's learned or invented techniques that don't exist under either the Pugilist or Monk schools BUT at the end of Shadowbringers in the Monk storyline she did go on to "officially train" as a Monk which means that by the time we see her again in Shadowbringers she would definitely have that knowledge in her repertoire. Also (and this could certainly just be head-cannon), Lyse is WAY MORE CHILL when you see her again in Endwalker as opposed to how she was in both Stormblood and the little we see of her in Shadowbringers which could point to her simply being more centered after receiving training as a Monk.
Tataru can actually still summon her carbuncle but she still can't control it. During the auspices/four lords questline when she's helping you subdue Soroban, she summons a carbuncle during the fight. It immediately runs away. I'm all for giving Tataru levels of Ninja though. She spent a lot of time among the Doman refugees and not even Estenien could escape her.
Also, anytime she is in the Rising Stones, her carbuncle has a chance of appearing in Revenant's Toll. The carbuncle doesn't appear however, if she is out of that town.
@@SemekiIzuio If I recall, there are three carbuncles that randomly appear in Camp Revenant's Toll. One of which only began appearing once you finished the quest of Tataru trying and failing to control her Carbuncle, so I assume it is meant to be hers.
I feel like you neglected to mention Y'shtola's mastered the ability to single-handedly destroy the soul of a man with a sick burn... surely that has to be some truly obscure black magic at work. Either that or just Matoya's influence.
Fourchenault: "I'm proficient in Nouology, albeit not as much as my son" Also Fourchenault: *Uses Rescue on a chained target* *Casts a Tank lb3 as a healer*
@@FranckyDGio the lore videos made me want to experience the world first hand, it's like hearing about Spain so you decide to visit to see for yourself
I started healing fairly recently, like within the last eight months in earnest and actually knowing what I'm doing, and when I discovered that Urianger's job switches to Lithomancer for the 89 trial, I healed my first trial to watch him dps. It's fascinating how much the Scions' abilities change over time, like how Y'shtola used the black magic spells only in ShB, but once she starts regaining her conjurer status in Zot, she's started healing in trusts when you take damage. When you play as Thancred on ShB, all he has is GNB abilities, but in EW he has his rogue abilities back.
This has been incredibly encouraging for my own character writing, as there are certain groups of people in Roleplay communities that will try to shit on anything remotely out of the ordinary, and it's incredibly frustrating. Combining abilities and knowledge- honing one's personal craft and using the classes and jobs as something of a basis and foundation. We see plenty examples of similar things, even outside the Scions themselves-- Sadu is described as a Thaumaturge, but her abilities are way out there compared to what we've seen an ordinary Thaumaturge do.
Tataru could have defeated Bahamut with just a glare and didn't, she just watched Louisoix put his life down to defend everyone. No wonder everyone thinks she might be related to the voidsent
This is the kinda stuff I consider in roleplay. For example, my character is traditionally a Ninja. But I plan on, through some character development, adding archery to her skillset. This doesn't necessarily make her a Bard or member of the Archers' Guild. She'll learn it from her family, from the Mongo- **ahem** Xaela archers in the Azim Steppe. Of course I can't actually have half Ninja and half Archer skills in gameplay, only through magic of roleplaying. Wish you could mix and match though, sort of like GW2's weapon system.
For trade jobs I have far out leveled Fisher then anything, even combat jobs. Since I started in Udahl but originally bounced off Limsa I joke that my character got on lost and accidentally ended up in Udahl and just made due till he got too Limsa. He'll punch stuff as a monk but really, he's just a humble fisherman 😅
I personally in my headcanon instead of bard, my Aura ninja picked up black mage because some of the spells used by black mages are similar to some of the mudras she would employ. So instead of being a pure black mage, she is secretly using her ninja skills while using some secrets of Black Magic to augment them to black mage levels
I feel you're doing at least a slight disservice to G'raha by not pointing out that the bulk of that century on the First wasn't just spent perfecting his ability as a caster, but specifically Allaghan magics and technology. He's able to wield black mage equivalent magics that were developed by the predecessors to the Mhachi that we base our black magic on. (Presumably his healing magics likewise, I've never run him as a healer). To add on to that, Emet Selch comments that he is intimately familiar with everything the Crystal Tower -should- be capable of. In addition as a "sorcerer of eld" who Hythlodeus indicates was powerful even by Amourtine standards, he likely was familiar with the scope of Allaghan magic yet compliments G'raha on accomplishing a feat (inter-shard teleportation/summoning) that escaped even the Ascians. All of this doesn't even touch on G'raha pulling out the conjured sword and board and, on at least one occassion, using high level paladin skills with them. You could argue that he is magically immitating skills he's seen the WoL use before but even that level of improvisation can be no mean feat.
It's also worth noting that he didn't just gain the memories of his 100 years as the crystal exarch. He also spent decades or even centuries studying inside the crystal tower while he and the descendants of Noah and the Ironworks tried to figure out how to travel across the rift and through time. Couple that with having all the allagan research stored inside the crystal tower, and then 100 years in the first. And then we've seen how quickly he can learn spells when they manage to find a cure for tempering, and he only sees the details for a split second before the computer systems explode, yet he still was able to commit the spell to memory and successfully teach it to other people. He's clearly insanely talented when it comes to spellcrafting and has an almost photographic memory, so add those two together and he's able to perform all kinds of high level spells.
@@camiart_casual oh yeah, it is criminal how little credit G'raha Tia gives himself. The dude is way too humble. Like, just let yourself take the win for once.
Would be interesting to see if we could cross some moves with other jobs (A lot more than the crossjob thing, like idk giving a dark knight actual Inner Release/beserk), but even I don't want to think about the desgin/balancing hell that would be I do also want to believe that since job quests don't really exist past lvl 70 I like to think that 70+ moves are the WoL really trying to push their job and creating their own new moves
what is interesting about "cross job skills" is that for DoL and DoH, they once were filled with cross job skills. So it's not like the mechanism doesn't exist in the game. Same with current "job class" cross-skills. Such as "healer" "dps" and "tank" cross-class skills. They are not "duplicated" between the jobs. They are shared. Theoretically not much, mechanics wise in the programming itself, limits crossing skills except design choices. And I can see why, balance. Otherwise players would cherrypick like they did with crafting to build "the ultimate" combos. Which for crafting really wasn't a big deal. But players would quickly crunch the numbers and build a narrow list of "acceptable" builds that require cross-job skills and those who don't have them will be viewed as an "inferior" X, Y, or Z job. So I suppose I see the reason for limiting cross-jobbing. It's not really an issue for NPCs, but for players, it would be a dumpster fire.
One thing I could point out as a theory: the limitations of the jobs system can be explained in lore with the fact that our WoL only really ever uses tried and true techniques, honed to a certain point. They basically just have learning stats over 9000 meaning they can hone just about anything and be the literal best at it, provided they get the material to learn from it, like a teacher's knowledge(classes masters and job mentors) or the soul crystal(DRK and jobs that came out in SB and beyond, as you gain skills at lvl 50-70 instantly because in-game design reasons and in-lore discipline experience and such). You could assume by that logic they don't need to rely on their resourcefulness to be strong(even though they also are very good at it as an expert adventurer) and thus don't see the need to truly "multiclass"(or use abilities from classes outside what's currently equipped) as a consequence, instead devoting themself to only one discipline at a time to actually learn or make any abilities they have in game.
They also don't have constant hands on tutelage and years of study in any of the classes and jobs, baring personal back stories of course, so they basically have to go with what works with the abilities they don't get from job quests.
There is actually a small, but direct, refutation to the the idea that the WoL only uses knowledge imbued into the soul crystals... what you called 'tried and true' techniques. Specifically, the Dragoon's questline when you 'unlock' Battle Litany. That's because the WoL doesn't actually unlock the ability from the crystal, but literally CREATES the technique themselves from scratch. The lore in and around Job stones is always fascinating. XD Either way, the WoL is a classic case being a 'genius-of-all-trades.' And that it's actually just a game limitation that we don't combine techniques from jobs into a single whole. Actually... the fact that we had cross-class job skills earlier in the games life is basically proof that its a matter of story/gameplay segregation.
@@Krescentwolf Yeah, it's an exception, though it's one that kinda proves my point tbh. They don't really see the need for creating new abilities, and basically stick to what's already in soul crystals, so we don't see much "new" techniques created by the WoL. Basically all honing and very little creativity besides use of terrain and the use of weaving(weird how basically no one besides the WoL uses some form of it, but I guess it's more gameplay limitations rather than an actual unique thing they can do, lol. )
Ehh canonically any technique beyond level 70 is developed by the warrior of light (with the exception of sage and reaper) since in not one instance does the wol work with a teacher or draw from their job crystals. There are a few classes which are explicitly unique fighting styles developed from a combination of schools and adaptation as well (the wol's rendition of drg and mnk)
@@TorManiak One could argue that the fact the WoL learns that quick is based on PREVIOUS knowledge, especially when it comes to role-actions, but depending on what the WoL learned first.
Oh, this was a great video! There are some things that are wrong but I won't go into them, HOWEVER! Regarding Tataru's Carbuncle, there is a neat tidbit that was glossed over. Not only was her original Carbuncle summon wandering around La Noscea, but if you're doing the Four Lords questline in Stormblood, Tataru joins you in one of the instanced fights as an Arcanist with ANOTHER Carbuncle! Meaning her potential for summoning magic is extraordinary in every sense of the word! She's so cool. :-)
also with the fact that tataru can take hits like the WOL means that she has an inmense potential on her aether prolly too big for her to control it rn
I always understood it that rather than raw power, her immense capacity for numbers and efficiency that she normally turns on treasury and information gathering matters allowed her to make a mind-numbingly efficient construct rather than just brute forcing it full of juice. Thus it could stick around as long as it did.
Tataru is a true blue mage. She does every role in the Scions and people don't notice her greatness. She'll be the true final boss XD Just joking, good video, it was fun to watch.
I never knew that Alisaie was taught Red Magic from X'rhun. This whole time I thought she just did all of that with no knowledge because she was that smart. lol
There’s a throwaway line in Stormblood where she mentions she was taught by a wandering red mage (either that or she heavily alludes to X’rhun) Sadly the line doesn’t change if you yourself are a red mage in recognition of you knowing the cat
I want to mention some other ideas of the job system not being the end all be all: One of the ones that sticks out to me is that you if you go into the Coral Tower, the home of the Marauder's guild in Limsa, you'll find emblems for a class we don't get to play and a desk where someone's attempting to sign up to join that guild. That guild is the Musketeer's guild. While not common, we spot a few Musketeers throughout the game. Another one that jumps out to me is the beast tamers you battle against in Bozja. At time of posting, this is a type of class we simply do not get access to. But it's out there. It's an art that exists, and further more, can be taught and passed along.
@@danilooliveira6580 Geomancer is canonicly just the eastern version of WHM but using the same "powersource" as astrologians(aka the stars) their abilitys are mostly just reskinned WHM abilitys, and they even have use staffs...... now we also have Shugenja which is ANOTHER VARIATION OF WHITEMAGES ALONGSIDE GEOMANCERS.. which also is basicaly the same as WHM as far as we saw, just with an extra barrier thrown in... so no... its unlikely we ever see Geomancer or Shugenja as playable classess as they overlap to much with WHM, and the team wants to avoid having the same weapon type on multiple jobs(WHM BLM, and SMN SCH being obvious exceptions)
@@weberman173 but this could be just because they didn't want to create new assets and animations for the NPCs. Because in FF geomancer is a distinct class, in FFXIV it draws its power from the source in a similar way AST draws from the stars.
Urianger cant summon the big three, not because he doesn't know how, but because the smns idea of learning is jumping into eikon blood and checking to see if you can invoke it after the fact. The book is for show, we are not smart.
The job system was so broken in the beginning. I was an op paladin healing tank and buffer at the same time. Left for a year and came back and found they changed it all. No longer was i a jack of all classes tank paladin of life and death
It would be nice as players to have our own way of combining skills and spells into new jobs as well. With Endwalker over, it would be nice to have a way of melding the various abilities we have access too from our job crystals and creating something truly special like a Warrior who could use spears or Halberds, a Monk who could use staves, a mage who can use meelee weapons, or even a White Mage that can use Golemancy like in the days of old.
I speculate that the soul crystals are crystalized memories of Azem to pass on to himself throughout the ages as the WoL. So he can use them when he needs them without having to relearn every combat style all over again, which could have taken many months or years to master. This also explains why the WoL has such a intense reaction from the Soul crystals, they are filled with his own memories imparted by his own soul. Even our WoL, is making brand new Jobs in the 7th Astral era. Machinist and Blue Mage are "yet to be carved with the record of past deeds". Something to consider.
I really don't like this kind of idea at all. Not everything has to tie back to Azem and the ancients, and this sort of thinking rips the credit from the pioneers that developed the techniques passed on within the crystals.
not really, we already have a lore for the soul crystals, Synodic Scribe even made a video about it. they were made by the people that invented those jobs and inscribed their knowledge on those crystals, there are many of them floating around even though they are rare. also I'm fairly sure the Amaroutians didn't have a class, they were all classes at once, and they just developed their own magic without any restrains. meaning Azen's soulcrystal would be a "all-rounder" like graha, I think only Hythlodaeus had a different class, the Soulseer.
@@PowerfulSkeleton @Danilo Oliveira I'm not saying he sat down before he was sundered and made the Soul Crystals in anticipation. The WoL, and by extension Azem's sundered soul has appeared throughout history as he lives and dies, and made a mark each time. I believe Tenzen was one such life. In Shadowbringers and Endwalker, we learned about the metaphysics of the soul and its relationship with the sundering. We also learned about memories and how they are erased upon returning to the Aetherial sea. We know that the Soul Crystals are crystalized memories of the bearer "Of ages passed". Except for Machinist and Blue Mage, which are brand new soul crystals of THIS age. Of which we are doing exactly as I am saying, (in a very meta way). Thus I have come to the conclusion that the soul crystals that are in our possession are possibly the very same soul crystals that Azem has imparted memories upon when he lived as another, in another time. Imagine, Azem had lived as a Lalafell in the city of Mhach during the height of the War of the Magi. Would he have not had a Gem of Shattoto? They were very common for that age. Or Would he have not been a Summoner, during the 3rd Astral Era at the height of Summoning magic? I digress. This isn't even a novel concept. Go read, The Hero of a Thousand Faces, by Joseph Campbell. Like it or not the WoL IS the Hero archetype.
I think its sad how Blue Magic is portrayed as just a meme class. I wish it would recieve a more serious treatment, since some of the stuff you can do with it should be absolutely insane
I think they attempt to explain it away with the "teacher," homie's just out here to connive gil outta people, there's no way he'd teach anyone *everything,* since that would cut into his bottom line. "Have you hit a wall? Just pay me a billion gil more for the next totem! I'll even toss in a BRAND NEW CANE and BETTER CLOTHES! :D"
itwould need to get nerfed into the ground before they would let it mix with other content. Also the queueing issues with dungeons would be a nightmare and buggy as hell.
@@Seanana_ Not what i meant. I meant it less "make it into a serious class" and more like "give it a more serious connotation then it simply beeing a circus act, to entertain the masses". because making a show out of it detracts from the actual potential power behind a well trained blue mage.
I wouldn't say it limits you system-wise, this was covered in the monk job quest for stormblood. having to fight against people who knew anti-monk techniques, the only reason you prevailed is because of your background as a pugilist. similar to the scions and other unique practitioners you come across your jobs are limited to what you've experienced and trained in. and the scions have their own unique backgrounds, there are even bosses and npcs have use unique combinations like a melee weapon with a gun or using a scythe in a way other than a reaper.
Ya know, calling Tataru a weaver, no matter how powerful, is still kinda selling her short (No pun intended, shut up). There is no doubt in my mind that she’s a True Omnicrafter. Also, still miffed that there is no way to get our own Obsidian and Moonstone carbuncles. (Damnit Square, give us more Carbuncle Glam options!!)
This setting truly is a roleplayer's ideal, honestly. You can make just about any sort of character you want, if you can find the right justifications. It isn't even hard to make something unique but keep it down to earth, either. With the right blend of various magical inclinations, one could theoretically be capable of standing toe to toe with some of history's greatest mages, provided the aptitude. Hell, even the tools of the spellcasters in question aren't set in stone. I play a character who's largely Conjurer ++, but she's got a few, select arcanima spells kept on her person as utility. Instead of carrying a grimoire in one hand and a staff in the other, however, she sews the arcane patterns into silken ribbons, tying them to her staff. It's like a physical form of attuning spells, keeping what you have prepared for the day on your person and ready for use. It all just requires you think creatively within the setting!
Loved the video! In regards to Tataru Taru; as the name implies, Tarutaru's(FFXI's Lalafells) had/have a HUGE Manapool even at lower levels making them the perfect Mage Class/Job races....
These kinds of thoughts are why I love being a writer with as big an imagination as my brain allows I could easily write something about a warrior using swords or a monk dropping a stardiver on someone’s head, etc., once they learned all the jobs and got thinking Alas it’d be a fever dream to see it in-game and near-impossible to balance in any capacity given how cross-class ended up going into ShB
Side note I'd like to include just for the sake of thoroughness, and in case anyone is unaware: technically speaking, job crystals aren't required to learn a given job's techniques; they're often defined as crystals that store the experiences and memories of previous holders, so while they accelerate the speed at which a person learns said job and can hold knowledge lost to time if the crystal is old enough there's rarely anything in there that a person couldn't learn the hard way. In my opinion, this ALSO means that the WoL could potentially create some truly unique job abilities through a 'cross-pollination' of skills, given how many job crystals they've learned from and how they're starting to develop and refine their own techniques at this point... though how well future holders of said crystals could follow suit remains to be seen. After all, mastering one's inner beast as a Warrior is taxing enough - combining it with their own Darkside might create something terrifying powerful, but also nigh-impossible to control. It's another limitation of the game that every player's expression of their job is the same, because I would assume each person's individual character and experiences (like what optional side-content you've completed or what jobs you've learned) would affect their growth and result in at least some differences. Imagine a Monk's techniques influenced by the experiences of a Dancer, or a Paladin using Red Magic to imbue their blades with elemental power!
Yeah. Don't they say in the Sage quest it normally takes years to become a Sage? The job crystal just speeds it up if you get the privilege of obtaining one.
@@nycto5335 Yes Sage normally takes an extremely long time to learn because you are learning both to manipulate nouliths as well as actual medicine. Canonically we are fully trained surgeons who can perform any procedure by the time we hit 90 in Sage.
Afaik you do *need* the crystals for a few jobs as stated in the game- Akademic vs Scholar, since the stone has bonus pets you get with it, and any greatsword- welding characters not being DRK because you need the DRK stone or you die or something.
Hot take by me: Was kinda hoping you would say "Jobs help shape the person" or something along those lines, giving personality. Now to the hot take, I believe a person shapes the job itself too giving each other personality and a unique style of that job/class, adding and optimizing certain aspects. One could say class patches are a way of the WoL making their skillset more efficient
Apparently Minfilia learned to fight from Ran’jit and I speculate, since I don’t remember it being mentioned, that she fought against the sin eater plague herself, like an ascian piloting a host body.
That's one of the reason I play around with stuff like Skillswap to visually represent the mix of discipline of my WoL in a roleplay sense. After all, for most jobs once the skill is learned you don't *need* anything, with a few exeptions.
this is something ive been wondering recently. Basically what's stopping someone, lore wise, from pulling from different jobs at once; and you go and make a video about it
I figure that on top of being bathed in draconic aether while being possessed by Nidhogg, Estinien has 20+ years of Dragoon experience on us, so naturally he knows techniques we don't yet. Y'shtola has clearly mastered the elements to such a point she can burn a man to cinders with a few choice words...
the WoL having so many soul crystals and being in so many prophecies is a direct result of Hydaelyns endless meddling. But at the same time, no one else would be able to handle these challenges like the WoL does.
All I want is a melee Dps that wields a Greatsword, I was hugely disappointed when finding out Dark Knight was a Tank! Hopefully they will do something more with the classes down the line so people can scratch that fantasy itch.
Isnt Y’Stola also part Astro? I think I remember at multiple parts of the story where she has used a shield that looks similar to Astro’s Collective Unconscious. I think she has used the full dome once or twice but the partial shield she uses to stave off Zenos while protecting Lyse looks close to the Astro skill too.
@@Salt_Mage In the Bozja quests, Mikoto (as a Conjurer mayhap even Conjurer+ based on Delubrum Reginae) was able to make the same exact shield to protect the airship she was on from a huge falling Garlean gunship, with some major backlash from the impact.
I bet Yoshi-P is watching this honorable mention and is thinking. “Oh yeah, Tataru’s Carbuncle is still out there… Hmm. I wonder what kind of fun Deuz Ex Machina my writers will come up with that.”
Man i love stuff like this, working outside the job system we have in game My friends and i have stories worked out for all of our 14 characters and mine gets training first to Summoner, then Scholar for Stormblood, then Machinist for Shadowbringers, and finally Summoner + Machinist for Endwalker. He mainly uses summoner spells but still keeps the machinist gear on him just in case, so if he runs out of mana or really gets backed into a corner...he's still got a gun and all sorts of other gadgets to help out It's a lot of fun thinking about what could be in the world of Eorzea as opposed to the game of ff14
I love this because I spent far too much time leveling all my trusts so seeing their little quirks always amused me. A couple things that I love, Y'shtola still being refered to as a healer when healers are needed, they never threw away her conjurer history just because of a job change. Another is that I do not for a second believe Urianger is being completely forthright with his combat knowledge, untargeted aetheral manipulation movement and death of the seventh dawn?
I really do like how you explained that fact quite well. While the WoL is able to learn the jobs because they are Just So Special, they're LIMITED to the boiled down skills that are basically handed to them. Not counting the job skills handed to you as you progress past the 70 Job Quests' instructional period. Part of the fun of the lore and world of XIV is the fact that those blending of skills and experiences makes for, often, unique expressions of martial and magical prowess. The theoretical use of those skills in a manner that is not restricted to the defined Job styles is an ocean of possible papers and theories. That being said, I admit to having my own concept of mixing the Job Systems' style with the weapon/combat styles of the DMC games. But that paper is still being fleshed out and nowhere near ready for review. >..< Tataru Taru's Carbuncle still being out there is something I was not aware of... Perhaps she made adjustments to the original Carbuncle spell subconsciously to vastly improve it's efficiency? Or she jus has that deep a reserve of Aether the drain isn't noticeable? Theories for another time... perhaps.
It could also be interesting (if sufficient interesting info is available) to check out how the Ancients fit into and out of the job system, since they are from an era way before guilds even existed (I think it's safe to assume as much ?), with creation magic added into the mix, their unique abilities that sundered souls awakened to the Echo can recall, and Venat being another example of a character able to switch jobs at the snap of a finger. We've seen them time and time again store memories and abilities in crystals too, not unlike how job crystals work. For example, wouldn't the popular activity of creating familiars and other entities out of aether using creation magic fit into a summoner type of category ? Especially since Emet-Selch influenced the creation of the Allagan Empire, the civilization from which our summoners originate, and since it was the Ascians that taught the beast tribes the Primal summoning ritual to begin with. Another thing that intrigues me is how Venat has a Dancer job, using chakrams like our own dancers do, yet she has next to no knowledge of dynamis at that time, so her use of the dance has to be different from how the Kriegstanz and Totentanz concepts operate.
when you take them with you with the trust system they are all all-rounded, save for Hythlodaeus that is a soulseer, meaning the concept of classes may not even apply to them, they just use any and all abilities they learn, create or master throughout their immortal lives. Venat even mentions that she feels her spells on you, meaning spells she created and are very distinct.
This is something I struggled hard with when I was roleplaying in ffxiv. I felt confined by the rules of the job system but I also wanted to abide by them for the sake of some sort of inherent consistency. Tbh I got really tired of trying to make it work and it's amongst the many reasons i gave up on ffxiv rp.
Dont forget in ARR and Heavenward you could drop your soul crystal and use more cross class skills. Tataru's Job is Capitalist :D , she would sell her own grandmother for half a gill.
Great video! I would add that Thancred was also a type of gladiator because he did use GLD skills like the now-removed Flash during the first instanced duty in the Ul’dah storyline. GLDs are described in-game as specialists in one handed blades including the dagger and we actually get to see him switch classes from GLD to ROG when he decided to pick up a second dagger after seeing Yugiri wreck shit.
(Head) Canonically, my character is a Conjurer/White Mage. Whenever there is new content, I always play through it on White Mage first. My character is, also, however, well versed as a Lancer/Dragoon, to the extent that I could easily see her being able to use a spear as a focus for her White Magic, instead of the usual cane/crook
Alternate offer: the reason that your character may not be using conjury while carrying a spear could be that it's noted metal is difficult (or impossible, unclear) to channel whitemagic/conjury through At least, that's my excuse for my own character having similar issues
This a fun dive into the expansive abilities we see the characters utilize! It would be interesting to see a follow-up to this with some of the other characters in the game. A couple off the top of my head: - Raubahn uses gladiator skills, but was a dual-blade wielder, and once we see him in combat, a lot of his aesthetics are fire-based, including a mechanic mimicking Ifrit's Nails in the Ishgard battle royale. - Sadu is a thaumaturge, but augments her spellcasting, both empowering and defending herself, with various automata/golems like the Khun Chuluu. Not quite an arcanist, but something more, since they operate independently and have access to other elements than we see her use in battle.
On Alphinaud having the potential to mix Academician and Sage, it could already be implied thanks to a piece of optional dialogue right after doing Labyrinthos: "If I intend to master these sage's armaments, that will mean learning to imbue them with the same aether that I poured into Moonstone and Obsidian." That means if he experiments with his magic more he'd be the ultimate shield healer. Also in 7.0, if Urianger does actually join the Warrior of Light, I wonder if he'd be able to be chosen as a healer and DPS in dungeons considering his abilities as a Lithomancer... but that's thinking in terms of gameplay.
As a writer that tinkers with lore inspiration from various vidya, I actually wrote a chapter of my crew exploring Dravania with them in jobs of FFXIV. I kept the skills they used within the confines of the jobs I chose, but their skills are far more diverse. Hell, I wrote another chapter where my main guy hopped from weapon to weapon of several jobs and used skills based on those weapons. I had been away from this game for a while at this point, but I basically had him acting out the Shadowbringers trailer over the course of a grand adventure chapter. Watching this video basically told me that if I'm gonna keep this up in my writing, that I can go a little crazy at not stick to one skill set at a time, but keep it within reason.
The way I've tackled jobs beyond the standard system is something like this: only one soul stone can be used at a time, but any number of jobs can be weaved together if the bearer is not reliant on the soulstone to use that job. For instance, if a character's backstory was serving as a samurai for years (ie: we never see Gosetsu use a stone), then pick up a soulstone for another job, after a learning period, the two styles could be incorporated together. Any of the 1-30 classes can work the same way, provided it doesn't interfere with essential mechanics (say...a DRK using a Marauder's axe is nontradional, but doable vs a Red Mage using a massive axe--where the much heavier weapon undermines what the red mage wants to do as is less reasonable).
Fun tidbit: If you look at Thancred during the the very early ARR sequences, he's using the Paladin moveset, so Gunbreaker probably wasn't all that difficult for him to pick up. He got firmly established in Rogue when they introduced Rogue/Ninja and Yugiri. Fun Tidbit 2: I had noticed Urianger's lithomancy and looked it up: It's essentially fortune telling with stones (as compared to Astro using cards), traced back to early people in the British Isles if I remember correctly. Dude is straight up chucking aether rocks at the boss LOL. That and him using spells like Death as an Astro means he definitely has some extra tricks that he picked up, maybe from Louisoix. With Moen, I think she was definitely self taught, or at least had the book knowledge. The quest giver in the Sage questline pretty much learned everything about Gladiator/Paladin from courses in Sharlayan so I can see other Sharlayans learning martial disciplines that way.
Bonus points alone for that 'Gets a new soul crystal for just sneezing the right way'. XD Though, from a lore standpoint, it could be thought of as we are sort of destined for these crystals to come our way/they are drawn to specific souls, or we are drawn to them and seek them out without active awareness. So looking at this, it would be reasonable to think that, given enough free time for study and experimentation, the WoL could also learn to cross the barriers between the jobs they have picked up and mix different elements of their skills, at least from a lore perspective. While the soul crystals provided a much-needed jumpstart for the WoL to tackle the immense challenges that would threaten the star's existence in a very pressingly short amount of time, more reason there would be machinations at work to have these crystals come into our possession, the fact is the WoL had the natural skills to make the most of the knowledge with which they were bestowed. Our characters could spend many more years in pursuit of their jobs and grow them even beyond the knowledge given by the soul crystals and their mentors, and with their talent for learning quickly and rediculous amounts of aether could one day create their own hybrid jobs as Y'stola and Louisoix did. Sadly, the game has to keep things in a set fashion for terms of gameplay, but kind of interesting to think about from a standpoint where we are not bound by the mechanics. My bard could eventually learn to work even more support spells and add healing to his repertoire through what he knows as a white mage. Or more defensive to himself and his allies thanks to also being a Dark Knight.
FF11 did manage to have job classes have a variety of weapons for their job classes but I think FF14 didn't want to have a too similar job system to FF11.
From my vastly limited understanding of things: soul crystals are like... Rare training wheels mixed with express lane speed matrix 'these are the basics' learning. Which... Explain very little about jobs like Blu mage and Machinist. Fun fact, Minphilia is considered a gladiator and does things, novel concept I know, in a side game which is likely noncanon but still. This lesson kind of revs my brain to what will happen when Alisae starts tinkering with Red magic now that she has the time. (Not to mention all the things the WoL will get up to with further tinkering of job abilities.) Alisae can conjure blades, at risk but still, has great skills with the magic side of red mage (according to the mentor, more than her blade work) and the rare academic capability of not particularly caring what others say is possible or not, she'll do it anyway.
Hehehe, us RPers have been using this delicious lore to our own ends. My bnuuy is a spearwoman from Golmore that's somewhere between a lancer and a DRG, since those hops aren't nothing but aether manipulation to make ya legs and arms strong, but she's delving into Tribal and School magics to make her own thing. Or rather, I'm pushing the bounds of lore and aetherology in an attempt to see how far it can go, and she's along for the ride.
- Looks forward to watching a spoiler free video. - Gets to 2:55, and cries I'll be back, whenever I finish Shadowbringers and complete Endwalker. Until then, take my 'Like'.
Oh my gosh, I never considered the full magical might that some of our Scions had. And I certainly had no idea that Urianger could pull off such feats without any summons
i would prefere a closer look to the great company leaders. I mean... Maelwybb uses weapons that are simply not even usable for the WoL. and she's not the only one. there is also a lalafell in the thiefs guild questline using the same weapon - a pistol. one could ague that this is what later became the mashinist, _but_ ! there is still a crossed pistols-flagg right beside of the ones of axes on the marouders-guild hall. Maybe this is a forgotten relict from a time where every base class was planned to get _two_ jobs to choose from, like the arcanist with scholar and summoner. But for the context of this video, this is basicly a proof that there is much more going on beside every class or roll in the world. the same goes for Raubahn who formally wielding two sowrds - or his Son the Lalafell with a "twohander" without any darkknight skill.
Pip is a Paladin who uses a variant from the typical sword and board. Raubahn is a hybrid Paladin/Warrior from the old days who still was capable of dual wielding before losing his arm.
At I know im not the only curious about this alphy got a sliver carbanculke thingy (However you spell carbuncle) ...and it's SLIVER and it GLITTERS and come on min/nin damn sure would've made Lvling min 1-90 more interesting but I guess that ryne/minfilia thing
The WoL has simply taken (several) shortcuts to power. The job stones are crutches - we can master the skills contained within, and use them effectively almost immediately, but only in the way they've been demonstrated. We've sacrificed flexibility for learning speed. By contrast, a "true" master would eventually learn equivalent strength, taking skills from different disciplines, but it might take them the better part of a lifetime to do so. I do wish we could blend classes together with more cross-class abilities, but it would be hell to balance.
a gentle reminder that the our job system used to allow us to use spells from certain other jobs. so it is likely that the Scions and other npcs just simply still follow that system, while we are more limited. also Aside from the WoL it has been hinted several times that the first jobs and Advanced jobs are more equal than first assumed. Like the Puglist not shying away from facing the Monks, or the Puglist training being the Key to defeating anti-monk trained soldiers, etc.
Unfortunately, the old shared skills of 2.0 had NOTHING on what the Scions are capable of. This fact only get more pronounced the more stream lined and homogenized our jobs have become over the years.
it’s important to notice that Krile’s outfit is that of a Devout from ff3, the upgrade to White Mage. so i think that’s fitting to call her a Devout in FFXIV
[[ There is a FFXIV module DnD poor creators had to work so hard making extra rules because multiclassing was a balancing issue. With your research I do double down on saying allow the multiclassing & just make enemies harder. The players could just be regular adventurers without the echo & soul stones bolstering them.. Tataru weaves both threads & either in HQ patterns]]
Dont forget! Tataru Taru's also a culinarian! She's mastered and mastering the true end game skills of the Hand jobs! Just watch out, she might pick up Land skills next and be unstoppable!
There's also the fact that Tataru summoned a second carbuncle during the Four Lords events, despite her initial carbuncle being alive still, which I do believe is also thought to be impossible That Tataru is... one of a kind
I think at this point in the MSQ, the warrior of light isn't drawing from the soul crystal necessarily. We stopped getting "Job" quests... and drawing power and knowledge out of it. It's of my headcannon that the WoL is now actively feeding it and MAKING new abilities themselves. All the stuff we see from 71-90 no one else of that job ever even comes close to. Summoners summon usually the egi of the primals... not the primals themselves. Blackmages quite litterally combine fire and ice together in one move in paradox.
Warrior's of light Echo powers unlocks everything with in those jobs learned from the masters "quest giver" that the masters dont know they can do why the NPC's are limited on abilities than the Warrior of light
I find ironic how Soul Crystals teach the knowledge of many generations. Recordings of the memories and incantations that share a light on the development of such role. Yet the Dark Knight is basically your own emotions telling you stuff and shouting at you. And how while holding the Dark Knight Crystal, your own emotions can talk to you, as seen in the questline. Makes you wonder.
Tbf the wol's drk soul crystal is really weird even for dark knights, and considering that your magic literally consumes half of your soul crystal in the 60-70 questline until you come to terms with things, it's a major outlier. The pally soul crystals on the other hand are not only sentient but are legitimately stupid, literally attempting to kill their user if they don't participate in a dick measuring contest
If you think about it all our in-lore jobs/classes are just assemblies of abilities created and put together by historic people and called that class. Hero's gauntlet mobs and bosses like the Berserker might simply be what would have happened if Warrior or Dark knight had not developed the way it did in the source. We intentionally seem to be limiting ourselves as fighters to abilities either provided by the job stone or class either due to discipline or tradition but lore-wise there's no reason we couldn't use spells or abilities cross-job if the equipment allowed it. We "decided" as adventurers to limit our capabilities to what each job allows. (ignoring dev and balance decisions)
Okay, so the Job Classes are the purest form of a school and that there are a number of classes out there based on the knowledge learned from various schools?
You add this stuff into roleplay and you get all sorts of fun. Roleplayers have long regarded the job system as the basic foundation upon which to build your character's skills. I've seen great ideas, good ideas, bad ideas, and WoW level ideas. But everyone feels that going beyond the job system is the only way to properly rp. It would be boring otherwise.
I think the reason that's the case is because the jobs in FFXIV are uniform. Without the ability, perk, or whatever options you often have with other MMOs people feel compelled to explain how their job could be different from everyone else.
@@SynodicScribe Exactly. They want their characters to be unique. Characters need to grow, learn, and become more than they were. Skills and powers are one way to show that. From the "Paladin" that wants to use two-handed swords, to the caster class wanting to be a "necromancer". Personally, I'm all for it. Roleplayers are often the people that remain with mmos the longest. They make their own content.
*gasp* Tataru! Speaking of side characters we should be worried about. This entire community is sleeping on Rowena. She has enough narrative across the expansions to warrant a vid. Open their eyes, Sribe. Open their eyes.
You forgot to mention Urianger used an Astrolabe as an Arcanist which is a Thaumaturge/Black Mage weapon this is reference to the original concept for Arcanist that was planned for 1.0 where they used Mechanical Staves as their weapons. He also summons an Amber Carbuncle which according to the lore book only he knows how to do because formula is so complicated.
After watching this and remembering the Shadowbringers preview trailer, I actually wonder how does the WoL canonically fight, considering that in the trailer he was able to switch jobs mid combat almost seamlessly
You forgot about Tataru's main job.
Her most powerful job.
The job that crushes and raises entire countries and continents!

Wait a minute…
Tataru is an omnicrafter.
In trying to summon a carbuncle she accidentally created a golem in the form of one?
Just my thoughts ! It rly makes sense if u think about her undergoing monk training
Estinien couldn't escape Krile. He even says "There's no stopping that Baldeseon woman, once she gets the scent of your Aether"
Also, anytime she is in the Rising Stones, her carbuncle has a chance of appearing in Revenant's Toll. The carbuncle doesn't appear however, if she is out of that town.
@@FtanmoOfEtheirys you mean the blue one? Cause that one belongs to the miqote
@@SemekiIzuio If I recall, there are three carbuncles that randomly appear in Camp Revenant's Toll. One of which only began appearing once you finished the quest of Tataru trying and failing to control her Carbuncle, so I assume it is meant to be hers.
Tataru’s carbuncle returns in Sharlayan. It’s one of the most powerful arcane constructs ever created.
I feel like you neglected to mention Y'shtola's mastered the ability to single-handedly destroy the soul of a man with a sick burn... surely that has to be some truly obscure black magic at work.

"Hey, G'raha, why do you get so many skills, you don't own a soul crystal."

Well at least the padjal use a similar trick to make us a sword for palace of the dead^^
@@althelorAnd yet he insists he’s not a talented mage. Dude.
@@camiart_casual oh yeah, it is criminal how little credit G'raha Tia gives himself. The dude is way too humble. Like, just let yourself take the win for once.
Would be interesting to see if we could cross some moves with other jobs (A lot more than the crossjob thing, like idk giving a dark knight actual Inner Release/beserk), but even I don't want to think about the desgin/balancing hell that would be
I do also want to believe that since job quests don't really exist past lvl 70 I like to think that 70+ moves are the WoL really trying to push their job and creating their own new moves
Which is most likely the case. Which means that for some Jobs the WoL has Zero Imagination. lol
what is interesting about "cross job skills" is that for DoL and DoH, they once were filled with cross job skills.

XD
Either way, the WoL is a classic case being a 'genius-of-all-trades.' And that it's actually just a game limitation that we don't combine techniques from jobs into a single whole. Actually... the fact that we had cross-class job skills earlier in the games life is basically proof that its a matter of story/gameplay segregation.
Still kinda wish we could mix and match weapons with classes like we can with other ff titles. I want to use an axe as a dragoon
also with the fact that tataru can take hits like the WOL
means that she has an inmense potential on her aether
prolly too big for her to control it rn
You can actually find her original Carbuncle running around in the Labyrithos zone in Endwalker. It's traveled very far and is shockingly powerful
She may not have control over carby but her aetheric reserves are obscene
I always understood it that rather than raw power, her immense capacity for numbers and efficiency that she normally turns on treasury and information gathering matters allowed her to make a mind-numbingly efficient construct rather than just brute forcing it full of juice. Thus it could stick around as long as it did.
I always wondered about the yellow carbuncle in Idyllshire? In Mor Dhona the blue one responds the miqote but I cam find the summoner in Idyllshire.
Tataru is a true blue mage. She does every role in the Scions and people don't notice her greatness. She'll be the true final boss XD
Just joking, good video, it was fun to watch.
I never knew that Alisaie was taught Red Magic from X'rhun. This whole time I thought she just did all of that with no knowledge because she was that smart. lol
There’s a throwaway line in Stormblood where she mentions she was taught by a wandering red mage (either that or she heavily alludes to X’rhun)
Sadly the line doesn’t change if you yourself are a red mage in recognition of you knowing the cat
X'rhun mentions that Alisaie talked about you during the first Red Mage quest, and that led to him being curious about you.
I want to mention some other ideas of the job system not being the end all be all:
One of the ones that sticks out to me is that you if you go into the Coral Tower, the home of the Marauder's guild in Limsa, you'll find emblems for a class we don't get to play and a desk where someone's attempting to sign up to join that guild. That guild is the Musketeer's guild. While not common, we spot a few Musketeers throughout the game.
Another one that jumps out to me is the beast tamers you battle against in Bozja. At time of posting, this is a type of class we simply do not get access to. But it's out there. It's an art that exists, and further more, can be taught and passed along.
there are also geomancers in the far east, they apparently are a healer class, and we may potentially see them as a playable class in the future.
It's hard being a lore nerd. To see the limitless potential of this world but also must accept we'll never get to experience it.
It's a nice idea, but we have to make peace with the technical limitations of the game.
Not everything has to tie back to Azem and the ancients, and this sort of thinking rips the credit from the pioneers that developed the techniques passed on within the crystals.
not really, we already have a lore for the soul crystals,
Synodic Scribe even made a video about it. they were made by the people that invented those jobs and inscribed their knowledge on those crystals, there are many of them floating around even though they are rare. also I'm fairly sure the Amaroutians didn't have a class, they were all classes at once, and they just developed their own magic without any restrains. meaning Azen's soulcrystal would be a "all-rounder" like graha, I think only Hythlodaeus had a different class, the Soulseer.
@@PowerfulSkeleton @Danilo Oliveira
I'm not saying he sat down before he was sundered and made the Soul Crystals in anticipation.
@@WH40KHero Maybe once we hit the New World, blue mage will have a chance to at least not be a lore meme.
Far have we strayed from the days of Red XIII and his Enemy Skill materia. :(
I wouldn't say it limits you system-wise, this was covered in the monk job quest for stormblood.
having to fight against people who knew anti-monk techniques, the only reason you prevailed is because of your background as a pugilist.
similar to the scions and other unique practitioners you come across your jobs are limited to what you've experienced and trained in. and the scions have their own unique backgrounds, there are even bosses and npcs have use unique combinations like a melee weapon with a gun or using a scythe in a way other than a reaper.
These kinds of thoughts are why I love being a writer with as big an imagination as my brain allows
I could easily write something about a warrior using swords or a monk dropping a stardiver on someone’s head, etc., once they learned all the jobs and got thinking
Alas it’d be a fever dream to see it in-game and near-impossible to balance in any capacity given how cross-class ended up going into ShB
@@khaeldranis2564 “Let me handle this. My name is Warrior of Light M.D.”
Afaik you do *need* the crystals for a few jobs as stated in the game- Akademic vs Scholar, since the stone has bonus pets you get with it, and any greatsword- welding characters not being DRK because you need the DRK stone or you die or something.
Hot take by me:
Was kinda hoping you would say "Jobs help shape the person" or something along those lines, giving personality.
I got so confused the first time I saw a carbuncle wondering around Revenant's Toll.
"Achoo! ... YOWHATTHEFU-"
I barely stifled loud laughter so as not to wake my partner-
I enjoyed this a lot! It was pretty neat, and the comedic timing on your SNZ reveal and Lyse were great!
I don't know if you read these but this reminds of FF11 sub classes which I miss dearly 2nd to 11's summoner
I think WHM used to have a shield of some type as well?
The bubble shield isn’t wholly unique to AST. WHM had one in PvP called Sacred Prism and SCH has Sacred Soil
@@Salt_Mage In the Bozja quests, Mikoto (as a Conjurer mayhap even Conjurer+ based on Delubrum Reginae) was able to make the same exact shield to protect the airship she was on from a huge falling Garlean gunship, with some major backlash from the impact.
To add to Y'shtola she's also expressed skill in arcanism/summoning due to her skills with creating golems.
I bet Yoshi-P is watching this honorable mention and is thinking. “Oh yeah, Tataru’s Carbuncle is still out there… Hmm. I wonder what kind of fun Deuz Ex Machina my writers will come up with that.”
Man i love stuff like this, working outside the job system we have in game
My friends and i have stories worked out for all of our 14 characters and mine gets training first to Summoner, then Scholar for Stormblood, then Machinist for Shadowbringers, and finally Summoner + Machinist for Endwalker. He mainly uses summoner spells but still keeps the machinist gear on him just in case, so if he runs out of mana or really gets backed into a corner...he's still got a gun and all sorts of other gadgets to help out
It's a lot of fun thinking about what could be in the world of Eorzea as opposed to the game of ff14
So basically if ff14 kept using the original cross job system and evolved it
I really do like how you explained that fact quite well.
But that paper is still being fleshed out and nowhere near ready for review. >..<
Tataru Taru's Carbuncle still being out there is something I was not aware of...
One small note-Thancred actually fights with Gladiator skills at the start of ARR, so he also adds some gladiator skills to his knowledge base.
I think that's just because rogue wasn't in the game yet
Huh, I forgot about that. Canonically Thancred did start ARR as a tank, and returned to tanking in ShB. Makes sense :)
I totally forgot about Tataru's Carby, the one quest in Labyrinthos makes so much more sense now!
It's breaking the laws of Carby Physics!
Dont forget in ARR and Heavenward you could drop your soul crystal and use more cross class skills.
Tataru's Job is Capitalist :D , she would sell her own grandmother for half a gill.
Ironic you say that, considering her backstory and how she ended up as the scion receptionist/coinkeeper
Another one worth remembering is Raubahn. He is the only one that wields 2 swords in the game and acts like a warrior.
Great video!
I would add that Thancred was also a type of gladiator because he did use GLD skills like the now-removed Flash during the first instanced duty in the Ul’dah storyline. GLDs are described in-game as specialists in one handed blades including the dagger and we actually get to see him switch classes from GLD to ROG when he decided to pick up a second dagger after seeing Yugiri wreck shit.
rlly do wish theyd include more subclasses/class personalization options
(Head) Canonically, my character is a Conjurer/White Mage. Whenever there is new content, I always play through it on White Mage first. My character is, also, however, well versed as a Lancer/Dragoon, to the extent that I could easily see her being able to use a spear as a focus for her White Magic, instead of the usual cane/crook
Alternate offer: the reason that your character may not be using conjury while carrying a spear could be that it's noted metal is difficult (or impossible, unclear) to channel whitemagic/conjury through
At least, that's my excuse for my own character having similar issues
@@ashsuna7774 a fair point, but spear heads can also be made from bone or horn 😄
Man I really love your lessons. It sometimes takes me a while to get to them but I love every single one.
Glad you enjoy them!
This a fun dive into the expansive abilities we see the characters utilize! It would be interesting to see a follow-up to this with some of the other characters in the game.
A couple off the top of my head:
- Raubahn uses gladiator skills, but was a dual-blade wielder, and once we see him in combat, a lot of his aesthetics are fire-based, including a mechanic mimicking Ifrit's Nails in the Ishgard battle royale.
He becomes a Lithomancer if you're a healer during the Hydaelyn Trust. It's interesting!
@@SynodicScribe I'm aware of that and it interested me too. I'm just wondering if it will carry over to dungeons.
I really like the format you used for this video! I had some good hearty chuckles :)
Bonus points alone for that 'Gets a new soul crystal for just sneezing the right way'. XD
Though, from a lore standpoint, it could be thought of as we are sort of destined for these crystals to come our way/they are drawn to specific souls, or we are drawn to them and seek them out without active awareness.
Tataru main job is actually hidden job "True Endgame Boss".
(Not to mention all the things the WoL will get up to with further tinkering of job abilities.)
Alisae can conjure blades, at risk but still, has great skills with the magic side of red mage (according to the mentor, more than her blade work) and the rare academic capability of not particularly caring what others say is possible or not, she'll do it anyway.
- Gets to 2:55, and cries
I'll be back, whenever I finish Shadowbringers and complete Endwalker. Until then, take my 'Like'.
Cuz of this video I'm coining terms to the mixture classes of Thancred, Y'shotla tc xD
Y'shtola - Grey Mage
Thancred - Gunrogue
Alisaie - Arcmage/Redist
Alphinaud - Scholar/Schage
Urianger - Arcologian/Lithogian
Oooo I wanna be an Arcmage.
It’s also funny that Tataru did try to help WOL during the 4 lords story as an arcanist though she still had some difficulties.
To paraphrase: "He's a GNB + RGE so a Tank + DPS hybrid". But that's redundant!
@@khaeldranis2564 Pippin's attacks in Tower of Zot have DRK particle effects, though.
@@jedimasterpickle3 that doesn’t mean he is a dark knight, Pipin is just… Pipin.
I loved the dual class system in FFXI. I had hoped they would have it again in FFXIV.

I knew she was more than meets the eye. Tataru EX: The tax evader
Great vid as always. Would love to see a 2nd part with other npcs like Raubahn or Merlwyb
Balancing is always a game of numbers. Unless you can master those it's a literal nightmare.
I adore your videos, keep it up
Dont forget! Tataru Taru's also a culinarian! She's mastered and mastering the true end game skills of the Hand jobs! Just watch out, she might pick up Land skills next and be unstoppable!
There's also the fact that Tataru summoned a second carbuncle during the Four Lords events, despite her initial carbuncle being alive still, which I do believe is also thought to be impossible
That Tataru is... one of a kind
What about Yshtola, doesnt she also have a flavor of astrology as she is shown in ARR to know the Collective Unconsciousness bubble shield ability?
Tataru didn't summon her carbuncle, she weave it.

Since the expansion trailers aren't canon we can safely say the WoL doesn't switch jobs mid fight over and over at the very least.
