It is a masterpiece. I agree with others here. But this song for me, holds a special place. Roger and his cohorts lyrical and acoustical capabilities collided with my finally having audio equipment worthy of it. This song, on the right headset, or in any well setup audio environment, mmmm mmm mmmm.

Amused to death and Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking are both fine albums, highly recommended. Haven't heard them in a long time, so this is awesome. Waters is an amazing lyricist and as time goes by I'm learning to love his singing more and more as well. Not what is stereotypically perceived as beautiful but amazingly expressive and emotive. 👍👍

On the first song on the album "The Ballad of Bill Hubbard" guitarist Jeff Beck uses his technique of playing melodies by bending harmonics with his whammy bar. Beck first used this technique on his 1989 song "Where Were You" from his "Guitar Shop" album. The album "Amused To Death" also uses Q-Sound - a process where certain sounds and instruments will appear to come from outside of the stereo spectrum if you are sitting in the mid spot between the speakers. Sometimes dog barks sound like they are coming from next door.

I don't know why I've never delved into Roger's solo work much, especially considering I'm a huge Floyd fan. And I've heard most of David's solo work. I'm getting subtle Mark Knopfler vibes in parts, both on the guitar and vocally. Am I crazy? I just may be. The lunatic is on the grass... I really like this, I'll have to download it.

"Amused to Death" and "The Pros and Cons of Hitch-Hiking" are both amazing albums, and wildly different, with 'Hitch-Hiking' featuring guitar work from Eric Clapton and 'Amused to Death' from Jeff Beck.
Nick, I'm curious if you've heard this: In the early 2000s, a fellow on the internet called Chad released a bootleg extended edition of Radio KAOS that incorporated several B-sides and thematically-relevant tracks from the "Where the Wind Blows" soundtrack, with a few interstitials, and I think it makes a pretty wild difference in elevating a somewhat abrupt, unfocused record into something truly special. Check it out if you haven't heard of it, it's called "Project KAOS"!

Waters is presenting this idea whether to choose to do the right thing or be selfish. A genie shows up to grand Waters three wishes. But in his effort to wish change the course of past events that are the source of his current pain, an opportunity of love presents itself. Soon he becomes regretful and contemplates that perhaps he should live with the pain and settle with having a lover in his future. Instead he's left alone with the regret, and the circle repeats itself. Three wishes that solved nothing.
