Awesome views Dave. I remember walking Ben Nevis a few years back, middle of August and it absolutely poured down from start to finish. Me and my pal were soaked through when we got back to the pub at the bottom, along with everyone else.

So many challenging aspects here. A forecaste of 35mph and Nevis summit camp would make many people flinch and just get down. I carry 14.5 kg comfortably and don't know about 18.5 because I've never dared try it! Well I might have 40yrs ago in my youth as I recall some very painful 6 day hikes! Not by choice now. But to get blue skies with extensive lying snow is just too magical. Congratulations on job very well done. JMO

last I went up - probably 10 years ago - ended up I had labyrinthitis working on me - felt like death from the first corner where the bench is. made it to summit but came down and went ultra dizzy. had to go Fort William hospital for stematil. also since covid (and old age) - never feel the same ! but you did it and camped up - so that's a definite winner.

Excellent video! I had probably my best camp ever at Loch Etchachan in April and the weather was amazing. It was part of a 3 day and 2 night trek up 5 Munros. I took an ice axe and crampons and had to use them when climbing Ben Macdui. I’ve not climbed Ben Nevis yet but want to. Now I’ve got a Soulo BL I also want to do some summit camps. The drone footage was great. Thanks again for taking the time to share your adventures.

Someone has commented that the drone shots were the icing on the cake, it looked to me like it was one huge Christmas cake been bitten off by a great giant, but the icing on the top of the cake inside with those magnificent crags topped with cornices. I think you were lucky to get the drone up because it must’ve been fairly windy. Nevertheless that’s got to be some of the best drone footage you’ve got. What do you think? Finally, 18.5 kg to the top of the highest mountain in the UK, and then not even feeling on top of your health, you sound like Sherpa the North. Keep healthy and stay safe.

Awesome, just starting in my wild camping adventures so total beginner, how many years experience did you have before attempting this?

Dave can I just as a question, relatively new to this video lark just uploaded my 4th today. En route I found holding a gimbal all the time a pain with my phone attached. Have you anything you use between shots to hold yours in. Any advice for a new vlogger would be gratefully received. You might like the video living locally to me it's Holden Wood Reservoir over Grane.

Hi Mike. I use a GoPro for filming myself. Just use my phone for static shots. It’s hung from a carabiner on my rucksack on a generic phone clamp.

This looks like April or May in pretty good weather conditions (given the great visibility high pressure) and not typical of mid winter on Ben Nevis. In mid winter storms his lightweight tent would absolutely be destroyed and he would be trying to survive in any way possible. I am only posting this as someone who has camped on Scottish hills and been through a few semi- epics myself including the wind snapping all the poles, losing all sense of direction and having to descend the wrong side of the hill and getting down by the skin of the teeth. Going down 5 finger gully is not fun and you can see why people have died trying.
Everybody can fuck up but you need to be aware of how bad things can go. It's absolutely possible to camp on the top of Scottish mountains but, whatever you do, don’t set off to camp up there from Glen Nevis on a breezy day in February where you can't see the top of the hill. It will be mayhem up top and unless you’re super prepared and have a tent designed for Patagonia you might be taking one risk too far.
For contrast here's a video where a guy got very scared, did not die, but was in a tent about 1500 ft lower on the mountain in a proper Winter storm. If he had been up top I think he might well have died.

      Hey ho amigo! 😊
In regards to the chaps video u left the link of there:
I've watched that TH-cam video a few times, he was very silly to do that. No sense at all! I'm glad he got down safely dispite he lost his tent and kit. Mental.
Ive had a fair few ifies too myself in he hills solo Summit camping in winter but I've always had no panic and known what I'm doing having plan A through to Plan X. Never ever deliberetly put Myself in that position ether and always felt very well with the situation. :) actually enjoy it cuz it's good practice 😂😂 when u know what to do that is haha
Red label soulo is fairly strong id say it could cope very well pitched properly and as in properly 😂 up to 60/70 Mph winds.
I however have the black label version and I have had it in 80 mph winds and it stood extremly strong. Rock solid actually. So personally from experience I feel I can replay on a black label.
The good thing about being on the summit itself of Ben Nevis is that you have an easy save option of just going into the shelter. Yes and the winds can pick up more than 80 mphs and that's a risk u take in any tent that's a good tent would struggle in. Again if you have a plan there u will be fine. But again I wouldn't put myself in that situation, but again it could happen out of the blue which is why u shld be prepared. Then problem fixed :).
But again it's not risk to be taken if you have not the experience. Nor if u do have the experience. Again the shelter there helps a tun. But being mile off the shelter like that lad is silly specially if there is risk of weather changing and being un predictable so never personally choose to go up summits at those times. Like some other mad ppl do.
David is very well experienced and has always got the worst that could happen in mind and a plan if it does happen dispite which tent he chooses. :)
But very good comment I liked it and im sure others will read it and be re assured who are maybe not as experienced as us x
