Just beautiful, I only have a small garden but the borders have overgrown shrubs mixed with bramble, a wild rambling rose and 5 trees. It is a small but a vital haven on a housing estate of 30 years no birds when we moved here 7 years ago everyone seems to like decking and a neat garden. I have put in a log pile, large plastic dishes on slate and granite are my little ponds. Regular feeding, although costing me a fortune in mealworms they can get through a bag in a day and seed. Bird boxes , bug houses and a patio full of pots with flowers and climbers even the wind chimes. I have 2 hedgehogs which have survived the winter in the house I made out of logs and a piece of oak covered with a rubber mat. I have tried to create what you have done at Bealtine Cottage you are a constant inspiration and your videos are so relaxing thank you Collette 🌳🌺

I’m sure that your life is filled with joy because of your kindness and abundant approach to life!

Hi Colette, In case no-one else has said, you have a nest of tree bumblebees (bombus hypnorum). They've been moving across from Europe since about the year 2000, and I used to see a lot of them here in England, but I haven't seen any at all this year so far. So I'm glad they're thriving over with you in Ireland! They don't compete much with our other native bees, as they tend to nest up high in trees, in roofs and in bird boxes, like yours.
Thank you for all your lovely videos, I do enjoy them. What an amazing thing you have done in the last 20 years, I think Bealtaine Cottage and the woodland and the garden are beautiful. Best wishes, Steph.

Definitely feed the birds and help them out! I’ve been feeding the birds and providing water for 20 years along with providing bee houses. My home, which is their home, provides them a safe habitat. I live in the woods and get some very rare migrating birds every spring and summer. They rest, and can get good fuel to propel them for the rest of their journey. Birds are magical. I will never stop helping them. By the way, the Merlin app is awesome!

I totally agree about the birds I live in Cornwall with lots of well established old trees with open fields around me and my garden is a haven for birds and insects , but I feed all year round as the parent birds spend all their time finding food for their babies so I provide an easy meal for them , and by the amount they eat they certainly depend on it during nesting time. I love your flower display Collette nice idea bring in the outside in.❤️

Good evening Colette, enjoyed your video and chat, all is looking good there ,Yes I agree the more we can do to help increase the wild bird populations the better also bees butterflies all important and constant it's not just the flowers and trees it's the whole, and cycle of life. I have lived in my house now 12 years this July, the garden area was just rough grass and broken down fences neglect hung in the air. Now its an abundance of life, I planted trees and shrubs made flower bed using no dig method which had long been a practise my father used when I was a child. I agree the rain has certainly boosted the growth over night it would seem my neighbours are of the same mind we swap notes and plants it's lovely to share I also recommend your channel along with Terri's Danu Irish herb garden. Have an abundant weekend of joy . Hugs and Blessings to you Colette.💚🌹

Such a beautiful flower arrangement. It enhances the living room's coziness. Your gardens are so mature where mine, here in Vermont USA, are in the early stages of growth. Lots of forget-me-nots are blooming, columbine just started opening, and the rhododendron began blooming yesterday. The hellebores have been gorgeous since the snow melted around them. A little bird family has honored my front deck light fixture with their presence again this year. Safe on top, under the eaves of the porch is a great place for their nest. I love this time of year!

Isn’t that the saddest thing for people to get annoyed at the sound of nature? Surely means a dreadful disconnect within the human psyche?

Nice to learn about tree bumblebees. My son looked out of his window over a month ago and saw a huge cloud of bees and suddenly the mass drained into a space under the edge of his slate roof. Well they are there and so high we can’t see what they are. I guess not going in attic this year.

My approach to bird feeding - on days they don't eat what's on my menu for them, I hope they devour insects which try to eat my plants! Peace and Blessings 🌻🏡🕊

Once again, watching your videos of the garden is such awonderful start of my day. Ive been to Ireland & Scotland several times and these videos remind me of so much. I'm hoping to make one more trip over. Unfortunately, we're too old to rent a vehicle in Ireland anymore. So we need to entice one of our kids to come with us & cart us around.😊

The garden!!! I love the late spring to mid summer when the garden as just burgeoning with new growth and flowering out, the bees have lots to do, and the foraging is there for them and the birds. I love your fat and fuzzy bees, though I don't know what kind they are. I can't imagine how they're going to thrive in that small gourd birdhouse. Have you though of getting an actual hive box so the queen has room to grow her colony, and you could harvest a bit of their honey eventually ? You're growing a smorgasbord all around them, so I would think a colony would thrive there. (As if you don't have enough to do already with that massive garden, haha!} Oh well, just a thought. It will be fun to see how the little gourd house works out for them. BTW, I have six Rhodies in my yard; planted out in the perimeter 25 years ago, when at half the size of yours in the pot. They are now ten feet tall and nearly as wide, even though I have dense clay soil and I had to dig 3 foot deep and wide holes, back filled with the rich and slightly acid soil that they like. I imagine if I had better soil for them they'd be twice as big now! If you transplanted yours into the ground it will grow sooooo much and reward you with a plethora of beautiful blooms. They really are the most beautiful plants.

According to Steph in the comment section they are tree bees! Apparently they have migrated from Europe and are happy to set up home here at my cottage! No need for honey as I am vegan.

So pretty. My flowers for Motheŕs Day from my daughter included roses. After taking them out of their plastic wrap I saw that the vendor had butchered the stems. i wouldnt have minded removing some of the thorns that remained, but the ones they had removed had left gouges in the stems. I did what I could but the roses never opened and quickly died. What are some tips for not putting too many flowers in a

How are you doing mrs Colette . Thank you for showing us such magnificent landscapes. As I read about climate of Ireland it’s mild and although rainy all year around . Famous Irish people Kennedy family , president John Kennedy , bram stoker writer of horror character Dracula, James Joyce , samuel becket winner of Nobel prize in literature . Symbol of Ireland is harp musical instrument. Imbolc is Irish festival originally pagan celebration observed from February 1 to sunset on February 2 , it’s mid point between winter solstice and spring equinox, they coined pagan sabbath feast day of Saint Brigid . As I told you before Iam Arabic lady subscriber to several British and American TH-cam channels. Actually i studied English both language and literature. I stil remember play rising of moon written by lady of Gregory Irish playwright, folklorist, known for co founder of abbey theatre , her notable work Irish literary revival . I studied till second year and left college it’s will of god not mine. I hope I can learn a lot from your knowledge. Good luck to you your loved ones.

Your garden looks so lovely. I purchased a bird feeder this year & filled it up with bird food. Ive loved watching the birds feed & seen new varieties of birds i hadnt noticed before. The only problem is that ive started getting rats & I definitely dont want to encourage those. So now I'm torn & dont know what to do. To feed or not to feed, that is the question 🤔
