    Bukowski’s second wife. She was working in a health food shop when he met her. They argued a lot, but Bukowski appreciated that she cared about him. He gave up his crazy women, bought a house in San Pedro with his writing royalties and married her.

    Linda Lee Bukowski and I drank one night in West Hollywood and we talked. 1981. I was homeless and hanging out at Diane's apartment. She told me a bit about Hank and I knew his name from the L.A. Free Press where he had a column. I had never read his work. After a few hours she drove away. The next day I went to the library and checked out "Women" and I laughed and laughed. He so much loves Linda no matter how crappy he would treat her.

    • @DrumWild
      @DrumWild 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      She treated him like crap, too. There's an interview where he gets angry and starts kicking her. Many edits leave out the precursor to that act, where she calls him a horrible name and proceeds to prod and push his buttons. All the while, she had this evil grin, knowing that she was going to get a rise out of him on camera. In that interview, he expresses how he hates it that she's sleeping at other homes with other people. She tells him that's the way it is and she's not going to change.
      There is no defending how he treated her. However, too many people give her a pass for how she abused him.

      @@GlossaME If you search for "Bukowski getting pissed" on youtube, you should find it. Top commenter is right, in the unedited clip she does tell Hank how she's gonna sleep with whoever she wants to and stay out as late as she wants. She says it all with a smug calmness, and eventually Hank snaps and rages and he ends up kicking her almost off the couch.

      @@DrumWildyeah but have you ever lived with an alcoholic? At least give her some credit. Plus we don’t really know what went on at that home. I don’t even believe she was sleeping with other people. My dad hated going to parties but my mom is an extrovert. Bukowski was a misanthrope and Linda has friends & he probably hated the attention it took away from him.

    I never knew I was a genius, but nothing he says regarding life is a surprise to me. I had a normal happy upbringing, so maybe all his 'revelations' were only such because he didn't realize them 'til later in life, and through alcohol.
    And the video of him "abusing" his wife, why didn't she just leave? He asked her to many times. She was cruel and stayed to bring out his misery. I guess she had the angel fantasy of the angel/devil relationship. If a man asked me to leave a relationship, I certainly wouldn't sit there and listen to another word. So long bye bye.

    I didn`t watch for longer than 1:43... It hurts to hear the woman he was married to referring to his room as "a total mess"; it`s so deeply, disturbingly misunderstanding thecharacter traits of Hank, that makes me pity him for such an everyday experience I might imagine he was having by living with her, because there really should be no condescendence about manifestations of character traits, should it? And by the way: her opinion is just right away ridicoulous. It`s not even close to the edge of beeing a mess. But it says a lot about her character traits...Rest in peace, you genius...
