Sargent Lipton and Doc Roe are 2 of my top favorite characters in this show. But I like 95% of the characters, there’s only one character I genuinely don’t like.

You should always be wary when you see Bronze stars awarded to officers. It's important to read the actual citation for the award to see if it's fluff or not. Officers are often over decorated and enlisted often snubbed for acts of valor. If the men of easy company said he was like this when he was with them, I tend to believe them.
I had a manager like that in the civilian world, every time something came up, he said he was gonna get on the phone and ask for help. Could not make a decision to save his life. When I became a manager, I remembered this scene and made decisions on my own. Sometimes they were fuck ups that got me yelled at, but they were MY fuck ups.
I've seen security guards doing this shit in a market once, some client was freaking out but misteriously security was doing other things and only showed up after said individual had gone
I love BoB but it really slanders both Dike and Sobel. Implying that Dike was a coward is rather disgusting. He probably a rather average officer compared to men like Winters, but he doesn't deserve the abuse the show gave him. This is especially true of Sobel who, as far as I can tell, was an outstanding training officer.

The books said Sobel WAS a good officer. The show never made him out to be incompetent or foolish. Maybe emotional but all of them got emotional at some point. The only problem with Sobel is that, while a good officer, we wasnt a COMBAT LEADER. apparently from the books he really did struggle with maps and spacial awareness which was pretty accurately portrayed. This is why he was put in command of the school. As for Dike apparently he really was not a good combat leader as the books also report he was removed from the frontline after foy (military records support this). Additionally most of the men did not like him for the reasons portrayed in the show. I wont act like I was there but he was removed from the frontline after foy and I doubt that was because he was just "average" - they wouldnt just remove someone for just being average and definitely not a well connected officer. I dont really see it as slander as they arent really insulting him, they were both capable officers just not combat leaders.

He did survive - and he ended up on 101st divisional staff by the time he left the army, and ended up as the same rank of Lieutenant-Colonel that Ronald Fucking Spiers did. No justice.
@@JagerLange There's a huge difference between a staff officer and a combat officer. He may not have been fit for combat, but they could have gotten some use of him as a staff officer - which would have freed up a potentially more competent officer for field command.

yes, Blithe actually stayed in the Army and became a Master Sergeant and unfortunately passed away while still serving during the vietnam war. norman staunton dike was wounded in the battle of foy before speirs took over and was an aide to general maxwell taylor for a time and was eventually promoted to lieutenant colonel in the reserves. he became a lawyer and worked in the mining business and eventually settled in switzerland with his law practice.
I am always amused, and perhaps irritated by the "Dike Critics". Yes, I am sure there are a few military vets online who know what they are talking about regarding Dike's character. But, I am sure the majority are "war geeks" that think they know everthing.

Dike wasn’t actually like this he personally pulled 2 of his guys out of enemy fire and was shot in the shoulder during the assault on the village
dike was not the coward depicted in the series, he was a hero like the rest of them and earned several medals for bravery
