      Yes, definitely the Palms. Station Casinos spent such a staggering sum on the place, yet it just sits there collecting dust.

    My family is old time Las Vegas, and the business my grandfather started is very well known. I have observed LV for 60 years, and I used to own a home in Green Valley. In my view, I recognized two decades ago that one day tumbleweeds would be blowing into open windows and doors throughout the valley. It was obvious it was fast becoming overbuilt with disastrous results. Gaming is tied to California, and that is pretty much toast! Sad to say, the Las Vegas I knew and loved while growing up and well into my middle age is gone forever!

    I live & grew up in Las Vegas.
    This is still so unbelievable to me.
    I worked in the casinos for 30 years. Looking at the Rio you could shoot a cannon through the place,
    I opened the Rio in 1990.
    I worked there for ten years it was the best time I'd ever had at any hotel I ever worked at.
    We were so busy & treated so well by the Marnell's.
    The employees loved working there & I believe it showed.
    Great memories!
    This never should have happened! Nothing warrants ever shutting down your countries economy!
    This has been devistating for all of us here in Las Vegas.

    • @DM-il1hf
      @DM-il1hf 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      America barely shut down & had 1.2 million deaths.
      Had the US not responded at all to the virus there would have been 5-7 million dead.
      With a proper response, where the president was honest, government allowed to do their jobs & inform the public what to do, we’d have 80k dead.
      80k!!!
      The poor response caused over 1.1 million unnecessary deaths.

    Wow....thats sad to see. I left Vegas in mid 2019 out of pure luck. 5 months later covid destroyed Vegas.
    I wasn't always so lucky though I had bought a brand new house in 2007 in Vegas...a year later the economy died in 2008...I lost my home and I still had 2 kids and a wife to take care of. That was tough.

      Sorry to hear about your loss in Vegas during the 2008 Housing Crash! I too suffered the same fate after 911, I ended up losing a condo I had purchased due to no work. Still remember how Vegas became a ghost town within two short weeks after 911 and of how the layoffs hit everyone very hard. Amazing what took place in short order once the planes stopped. A lot of those smaller casinos are dives, and still are even some of the bigger casinos you can see the company who owned'ed haven't updated or revamped the properties since forever. Just my own opinion from my time living there as a full time resident of Nevada.

    • @Milestomemories
      @Milestomemories  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah some are definitely old, but some like Eastside Cannery and Palms don’t fall into that category. No doubt though most of the casinos are open at this time and it is the under-performers that are on this list no doubt.

    The Palms was a winner in the mid 2000's, that was the hip place to be until The Cosmo opened and took that crowd. Sinking all of that money into an off-strip casino for a re-design made no sense at The Palms. The Rio was another super hip casino for years...very sad to see what happened there as well. In reality, I noticed as a lifetime resident the prices for everything here started increasing in the early 2000's when Mandalay Bay opened and I kept thinking they were slowly destroying everything about what Old Vegas was all about. If and when the casino industry comes back to life, they will have to start catering to Middle America again and locals and be happy with a modest profit...enough gouging. Vegas is going to experience a massive housing bubble burst just like it did 13 years ago as the housing market went insane last year. Hopefully it can come back.

    It's sad to see the Eastside Cannery still hasn't opened. I've had relatives stay there and have even stayed overnight myself. The rooms are clean, modern, and nice but apparently having Sam's Town down the street is enough for Boulder at this point. Even before 2020, Sam's Town always attracted the bigger crowds and the Cannery casino was usually empty.
    I remember when the Palms was the place to be in the early 2000's. Kinda crazy to see how it all went downhill for the Maloofs and the Palms. I understand they now own a minority stake in the Golden Knights and hopefully the Palms can make some kind of comeback in this town too.

    Main Street Station: I love Triple 7 Brewery. Can't wait 'til it reopens again.
    Eastside Cannery: I stayed here for one night in October 2019. You're right the outside looks amazing. The inside looks like crap. It has the saddest gaming floor I've ever seen. Outdated slots, one open blackjack table, an empty craps table, no three-card poker, one restaurant that has Chinese food and American food. However, the suite I stayed in was nice. But, elevator to the rooms has a very faulty security card system.

    Wow, l was hoping not to see the Palms is still closed from a commenter just a month+ ago. I stayed there a lot from 2011 to 13 when the bank had possession of it. The machines were definitely looser than the strip and the buffet was awesome too. Breakfast was just $5 and dinner $10 with a mid-level playing card. Several years later the 100% payback VP machines were removed and the buffet was a lot more expensive. Even the rooms were more as well. The Grand Sierra Resort in Reno was in a similar situation too back from 2010 to 13 when the bank owned it; everything was very reasonable just like the Palms was. Now at GSR a dinner buffet is $30 compared to when they had a rad promo of $7.77 for mid-level players back then - including prime rib.
    The casino markets are always changing and covid completely through a wrench into the equation - And Tahoe was almost engulfed by the Caldor fire which was a double-whammy along with covid. I've been going there since '85 and they were really hit hard by the tribal sprawl throughout California, Oregon and Washington starting in the late 90s. You have to enjoy these experiences while they last because they can be gone tomorrow. Hopefully new opportunities arise soon - after all of the destruction the pandemic has wrought on the industry.
    I'll check out your other videos. Thanks for the tour. I had a trip planned for Vegas in April right after the lights went off and haven't been back since. I'm booking something soon though.

    Across the street from the Palms is the Gold Coast Casino, which has been open for some time. The Gold Coast caters to a different crowd than all the other casinos, as the gamblers are mostly locals and local Chinese, because it is in the Las Vegas China Town. The Gold Coast has a lot of Chinese gambling games and was always busy.

      @Milestomemories  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. I have always loved it for the history, good beer and overall vibe. I think as soon as tourism from Hawaii is more open they'll swing the doors back open. I think the hotel almost exclusively relies on Hawaiians, although I would think the casino could draw in some locals, etc. The few times I've been to California outside of peak times it has been dead. That probably explains why Main Street Station is closed. Not enough business for the 2 properties.

      It would be nice to see some crowds come back. The slow crowds of early June are massive compared to how it has been the past few weeks.

      This time of year is typically slow. Starts to pick up once people start getting tax returns and weather warms. Hope it comes back this spring.

      Its way slower than normal. Cocktail waitress at Harrahs said last year this time 3 cocktails weekdays and 5-6 weekends. Now 1 cocktail waitress entire casino Monday-Thursday. 2 on weekends. My dealer friends say tips are only 20% of normal. I think not only is body count down its also small gamblers

    Would like to see The Palms Casino reopen. Have fond memories of this property and winning some very nice jackpots! If I ever go back to Vegas, this is the casino I would like to go to. Cross my fingers!

      Hopefully when it reopens, it'll reopen with new ownership, or at least new management. Such a beautiful Casino, the rooms are gorgeous, and the top floor's reviews are unbelievable. Unfortunately, that casino has been mismanaged virtually since the day it was opened.

    There is one thing that is nice to see, and that is all of the comments on this video, from locals, visitors, and from people who have never been to Las Vegas, expressing their kind regards and thoughts of this place. Before covid, people talked about Las Vegas as if it were a terrible place that no one liked. It's nice to know that people really do like Las Vegas. Real people live here, we are in this together. Love to everyone from Las Vegas.

    Main Street Station is the prettiest hotel/casino in downtown LV. Needs some good marketing.
