Man, you were born to do this! You'd make a brilliant professor or teacher in any academic field. Such a nice, smooth, easy way about how your words flow and the manner in which you explain things. Another excellent job!
This is by far the best review channel on youtube for tools. You actually learn about the tools before doing videos. Most TH-cam tool reviews are people blabbing about pointless things for 5 minutes then showing a few things about the tool for 2. Good job at getting to the point and sticking to the topic.
Good tip about sumping the tank of moisture. Sadly, a lot of people either forget to do this, don't know to do it, or just neglect to and it leads to a really dangerous condition. _Like exploding._
I use a oiless 4 gallon Porter Cable pancake compressor. It has a 1.6 up motor and a max psi of 135. I have had it about 10 years for automotive and woodworking and it has done all I need it to do.Plus it is very affordable at about a 100 dollars. They have changed in size the past few years but there still pretty much the same.
Very compact and portable, I think is a life saver even for emergencies when there is no power. Very nifty unit...Thanks man, as always very interesting review...!!!!
wow, this looks like a great compressor for small jobs. I think professional handyman will love these, especially if they already have some Ridgid batteries. I use a Ridgid 6 gallon, I'm not sure what the model is, but I got it in a combo pack with a 16ga nailer, an 18ga nailer, and an air powered stapler if that helps figure out the model. I have used it professionally for about 4 years now, and it's still going strong
I picked up the Ridgid 18 gauge battery power nailer for $200, mainly to avoid lugging around my compressor. The 20 pound compressor you reviewed paired with the much smaller (on sale 18 ga and 24 ga air nailers both for $99 at Home Depot would have been a better pick for working on cabinets) I have a hard time getting the larger nailer into tight spaces) I saved at least $1,500 by doing the work on my kitchen myself so... The wife will not complain if later the air tools make it into my box. My work crew love the cordless nailer for shooting in trim in rental houses that we are repairing. If you put the tool to work they all quickly pay for themselves. Thank you for the review : )
I have an 80 gallon, 5HP Champion 2-stage vertical that I use for my main shop compressor, a 30 gallon horizontal Champion with a 13 HP Kohler engine, and various other smaller compressors - and I'm still thinking about buying this. Part of the reason is that I'm pretty heavily invested in the Ridgid 18V lineup already, and the sheer portability and convenience of this looks like it would really fill a niche.
Nothing to brag about, but my current Air Compressor is a Harbor Freight 2HP 29Gal 150psi Belt Driven model. Item #61489. I've had mine for a couple years now. My old Montgomery Wards air compressor tank has a leak in it, so I stopped using it and bought a new compressor. The Harbor Freight compressor helped me do all the base trim in my house after replacing the carpeting with laminate flooring, as well as many tire inflation duties, air impact wrenches, etc. The compressor handles all these tasks pretty easily, however it takes about 8 minutes for the compressor to fill up that 29 gallon tank. No big problem there, I just turn the compressor on and do other tasks while it fills up. This compressor is plenty large enough to do all the tasks I need, and to run high demand air tools occasionally.
Really like this for the sake of taking it on the road for tires or even airbags that pickup truck owners can install to help with towing, and any other small potential jobs that could come up. I will not be buying this though because I have all Milwaukee tools and I prefer to stay with one brand, battery system, and charging system. Hopefully someday Milwaukee with come out with something similar and if so I'll be all over it.
JJ Hanson I was just about to say that! I'm not a fan of buying another charger and other batteries from a different brand.. we can only hope Milwaukee decides to make one!
My compressor is a Craftsman 8-gal, dual cylinder, oiled model. the date stamp on the piston housing says 1984, it rolled out of my friend's garage for a cool $20. It tops out at 100 psi so it doesn't have the balls for anything too substantial, but it fills fast with the dual cylinders. The only tools I have are cutoff wheel, air hammer, and of course an air chuck, and it runs them well enough
I've got the ARB twin compressor and it's mounted under the hood of my 1979 Bronco. I attached a 2.5 gallon tank with it as well. I can run most air tools with that set-up.
Once again an excellent review! I have a snap-on rebranded 20g compressor from costco. For the price it's not bad. I find it noisy though and I have to wait for it to build air while using my impact. i just use it for odd jobs in my garage .
That's a cool little compressor. the one I currently have is the ridgid tri stack one that the motor can be seperate from the tank it's great but heavy as hell and always trips my breakers
I am impressed. I have been using a stand alone air compressor to air tires roadside for doing road service this looks like a possible replacement. Keep up the good work , maybe review air hoses?
just got the new cordless miliwakee 2 gallon compressor it's pretty cool broke in on a HD12.0 ran for 37 minutes straight until battery died that's amazing max air is 140 psi until auto shut off.wish it dame with cord option like there fan but it's good enough with 2 HD12.0
just today I thought about if Milwaukee was going to come out with a battery air compressor... As luck would have it Ridge has one First. Looks Awesome. I Purchased back in 2001 my Emglo M800-HC4V 1.5HP 15 Amp Still Runs Great today.
I jst picked one up becouse i have the cordless finish nailer i dint want to buy sumthing with a hose again but ridgid dont have any other nailer beside brad in cordless so i got it just for if i got to shoot a clp of frame nails or roof nails or jst like u said if i need to plug a tire i got thousands of dolors in tools to leave on side of road...i got 2. 9ah battersy Bluetooth so i can see how low thay are rt on my phone and it runs all day now i only have 1 helper n we not installing 100s of doors n windows a day or bilding 30 decks a week so its perfect for us i got a 10 gal corded at home if i need bring out the big boy lol good video jst subscribed
Yes I’m definitely impressed with rigid and is nice to see more option bc at first my only option was dewalt I have nothing against it but like I say is nice to see more options
Nice review, I really want one of these! I currently have a Hitachi 120V EC12 Compressor. It does a great job for small framing jobs and smaller brad and pin nailing. However, it is very noisy!
A Very good & excellent Workshop Addict tool that's needed in everywhere when purposely arises with urgent common sense require in according to what's given in this show and to enable individual demand and to enable subscription without wasting time/money!!! Sule Shangodoyin.
I'm currently using the Harbor Freight oiled 21 gallon compressor. I can't really complain about it given how inexpensive it was. It allows me to run all my automotive air tools at home.
you've got the most thorough tool vids out there. keep up the good work I learn a lot from you. way better then those two other doofuses from Chicago that stand in their garage and argue with each other haha
All you need is a 10' hose, no need for 50'. Sometimes driving 4 framing nails at a time is all you needed, same as removing lug nuts if you're willing to trade speed with time.
Nice unit. I saw Milwaukee at HDepot with 6 & 12 amp hour batteries. Wow. If they had a cordless compressor that would really be great for trailer tires that call for 80 psi.
That looks like it could be a very very useful tool without having to rely on 110. I use the California air tools compressor, Model 5510SE. Would love to see a comparison between the two in terms of quietness.
Home Depot recently had the bare tool ones on the clearance shelf for $50. They still sell the same thing on the website for $180. Not sure if it's being discontinued or they're just not selling well enough in stores that they'll just sell online exclusively. Almost got one but like it's shown here it's too small for taking off lug nuts, which is why I really wanted an air compressor.
+cardsfanbj Home Depot dumps any product that isn't a huge seller within the first month on the shelf --- except Husky items that they own outright. Just like the RIDGID Gen5X miter saw kit....superior to the Dewalt version, but didn't sell as many & never got physical shelf space (only in the holiday promo section & briefly on an end cap prior to being clearanced out). Tools make up a very small percentage of their overall sales, so one item never is a big deal to them.
That actually is pretty cool for such a small unit. I was wondering how light you meant when you said light automotive work. I use a Craftsman 33-gallon 150 psi max, 1.6 hp oilless compressor at home. Similar to the current one at Sears, just an earlier version. I like it. A bit much for my needs but I wanted it when it came out. =)
I'm impressed. I use a electric air compressor with two gallon capacity. And 125lb strength....not sure of type but like the ridged act but loaded with. Ryobi batteries and eqpt. :(
That's the real 'drawback' to cordless tools; you really need a bunch of batteries. He pointed out that Home Despot does have BYGO deals a couple of times a year, so I guess keep your eye out for that.
Nice idea. Those generally top out at 130 watts at most. Usually less. A 130 watt supply would give you 7.2 amps max @18v. I haven't a clue if that's enough or not.
also you should compare that to the DeWalt ModelD55140 1gallon. I've been using that for small jobs at work for years. we even installed 800 square feet of engineered hardwood with it in a pinch one day
Great Video RTR. Im a little off subject but Im chompin at the bit for you to review the new Ryobi Brushless Hammer Drill.. I want to buy it - But im waiting for you to review it first. Is that something in the works?
I'll prob buy 1 just to be able.to.air up tires for relatives on the side of the road or tractor tires and what not but i.defonatly wish it was corded also for sure that would be a huge selling point
It would be cool to stick under a work bench. I’m thinking it should have been 1.5-2 gal. though. It’s pretty close to being just a high end tire inflator.
Do you recommend that I buy a small cordless compressor and use air tools with it? I'm thinking about DeWalt's compressor, because I have most of DeWalt's 20V line up and I have Flex-volt batteries. Usually I just need a brad nailer for really small projects and I have DeWalt's fast charger available. I did buy a cordless nailer but it was lost during shipping, so I took this chance to look for a better solution for a nailer. Any Suggestions? Thanks!
fieldboy674VGN 2 I hope, Ryobi would bring it to Germany too. Ryobis offering here is pretty poor compared to the lineup you get in the US. I usually prefer Makita but Ryobi has some awesome gadgets, like the little compressor or the led lamps.
Ryobi did used to make bottom of the barrel crap years ago but they've stepped up their game . I used to be a Milwaukee guy until I bought a Ryobi combo set on sale at HD. It was going to be for the home only but once I tried the impact driver the 18V Milwaukee tools at work started being replaced with Ryobi. I bought the 18V Ryobi brushless hammer drill recently and its a beast, it really is a good tool. I've been a commercial/industrial construction electrician for 20+ yrs, after the switch to Ryobi some 12yrs ago I've used and abused them almost every day for the last 12yrs without a problem. If I ever had a problem it was my fault from dropping off a ladder/burning the motor from being impatient and trying to cut steel with a 4" hole saw on high speed. Lol!
I think your math is WAY off. I counted $520 to buy the compressor, 2x 5ah batteries, and a dual-sequential charger. The Milwaukee 18ga brad nailer kit is $349, within spitting distance of $200 cheaper than the compressor combo. The real kicker is that the 6 gal Ridgid pancake compressor is just $99.
+EFormance Engineering it will run off of one battery....compressor ($200) + nailer ($70) + hose ($20) = $290 if you are already in the RIDGID lineup. Multiple times each year they have the buy-1-get-1 battery deals for $99....2 Milwaukee nailers = $700+
"...Multiple times each year they have the buy-1-get-1 battery deals for $99...", about RIDGID deals that is true. From Home Depot I purchased two RIDGID 5Ah for $119.
I saw you said that to someone else. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining about something I'm getting for free. But the problem, at least for me, is that when you say you were going to do a video on a subject people will be waiting for it. Take it as a compliment, your reviews and tests are thorough, and well done. So we want to see what you have to say before making a purchase. And waiting for a video that is supposedly getting made but doesn't come and doesn't come, can feel ... like a let down. Hope that makes sense.
Man, you were born to do this! You'd make a brilliant professor or teacher in any academic field. Such a nice, smooth, easy way about how your words flow and the manner in which you explain things. Another excellent job!
foofoo rabbitt totally agree.
i agree he is 1 of the best on TH-cam when in comes to a full reviews of a product

i realize Im pretty randomly asking but do anyone know a good place to watch newly released series online?

Thank you! I am thinking of getting one of these, and your review was the best by far, even 3 years later in 2020.
Did you find one and where I would live to own but can’t find ur anywhere
Former military man, your presentation it right on point.

really impressed with the idea and surprised at it's capabilitys fo such a small tank and with just batteries, I'll be getting one just as a back up
25 year old Bostitch. Built a few homes with it and use it now for every day tasks.
That's a nice compressor for a small job around the house I have a old Craftsman 33 gallon it works great for me I've owned it for 15 years 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼✌️

would you ever consider doing a shop tour? would be cool to see the immense amount of stuff you have
+Ned Schmitt now that would be a LOOOOOONG video....
Real Tool Reviews you should do it, also I was wondering where is your shop? Is it at your house?
It is at an undisclosed location.....I am sure you can guess why.
Yes I’m definitely impressed with rigid and is nice to see more option bc at first my only option was dewalt I have nothing against it but like I say is nice to see more options

Nice for those small nailer jobs. Plus I could use existing Ridgid batteries. What even better is the sell 2x4amp batteris for $99
you've got the most thorough tool vids out there. keep up the good work I learn a lot from you. way better then those two other doofuses from Chicago that stand in their garage and argue with each other haha
Clint Moberly
totally agree! those guys drive my crazy!
Clint Moberly are you talking bout tools in action 😂
fieldboy674VGN
I was. no actual useful information from those guys and no effort put into they're "reviews". A blind apprentice could do better!
Clint Moberly it's chevy chase and jack black.
this is great for atving when you get back to hotels and air tires or do small repairs
Hope Ryobi does a hybrid version.
All you need is a 10' hose, no need for 50'. Sometimes driving 4 framing nails at a time is all you needed, same as removing lug nuts if you're willing to trade speed with time.
What would be nice is an optional 18V power supply that can power the compressor for the times there is 120V available.
They make one, but at $200, its cheaper to get a Bostitch pancake compressor, which has much better performance.
Great review as always.
You should do a comparison between the rigid, makita and the new dewalt. Great videos man!
Can't wait for the Ryobi cordless pressure washer, they produce it for the aussie market and i wish they sell it in the states NOW
that thing is really cool! another excellent review
Thanks for the great review! just curious, what tire inflator were you using in this video?
hey Dan grate video as usual. can I use this to remove wheel lug nuts on a car ?
He used it to do that towards the end of the video.
I'm impressed. I use a electric air compressor with two gallon capacity. And 125lb strength....not sure of type but like the ridged act but loaded with. Ryobi batteries and eqpt. :(
Another great review
Nice review. I just don't see this as an alternative to a cordless nailer. Availability of power is less of an issue than convenience.
Can you review Schwaben tools? They carry some unique tools like the pistol grip locking pliers.
there are corded extremely quiet compressors out in the market wonder when they will come out with a quiet cordless version
I like that little unit
The Seth MacFarlane of the tool world haha nice review sir.
I need this. And a ton more batteries...
That's the real 'drawback' to cordless tools; you really need a bunch of batteries. He pointed out that Home Despot does have BYGO deals a couple of times a year, so I guess keep your eye out for that.
TheJohn8765 what's BYGO?
BOGO = Buy One, Get One
BYOB = Bring Your Own Booze
BYGO = ?
Shame it's not hybrid corded and cordless like the shop fan and work light they sell, then it would be perfect.
you may be able to rig it up to a Dell 19V laptop power supply, depending on the amp draw...
Nice idea. Those generally top out at 130 watts at most. Usually less. A 130 watt supply would give you 7.2 amps max @18v. I haven't a clue if that's enough or not.
Whether it is or isn't, the fireworks would be a nice touch.
nathanddrews I was thinking the exact same thing. As is, I'm not sure it's really worth it or not.
the other companies need to copy the dewalt plug in power pack adapter
Nice. Will you be doing a review and test of the new Gen5x Rigid 1/2 cordless impact?
what happened to the torque wrench comparison series?
I don't make the same types of videos back-to-back....it gets boring. There are more coming up, stay tuned!
Real Tool Reviews 👍
also you should compare that to the DeWalt ModelD55140 1gallon. I've been using that for small jobs at work for years. we even installed 800 square feet of engineered hardwood with it in a pinch one day
great idea could use some upgrades like a fibre glass tank that is lighter and can hold more pressure
Any news if Milwaukee has one coming soon?
+Angelo Loura no clue....but that would make sense.....I'd guess 2 years out....
nice video does makita or milwaukee have cordless?
Is Milwaukee or Dewalt full manufacturing coming back to USA due to new policy?
Great Video RTR. Im a little off subject but Im chompin at the bit for you to review the new Ryobi Brushless Hammer Drill.. I want to buy it - But im waiting for you to review it first. Is that something in the works?
+Rock44260 sure, I can work on that 👍
I'll prob buy 1 just to be able.to.air up tires for relatives on the side of the road or tractor tires and what not but i.defonatly wish it was corded also for sure that would be a huge selling point
And charge the batteries while plugged in and not used.
That ball valve is the weakness in the design. Eventually that will wear down and leak. Warranty covers that?
Have you teated the Ryobi 1 gal cordless air compressor
It would be cool to stick under a work bench. I’m thinking it should have been 1.5-2 gal. though. It’s pretty close to being just a high end tire inflator.
Just bought a second hand AEG(Rigid everywhere outside of australia) mini Wheelbarrel compressor
i like this air compressor... BTW this can be useful for carwash business? like using foam gun?
please let me whats your opinion thanks... :)
Great review and very helpful information. Wish you'd return to the review business with some newer content.
Awesome 💯 TYVM 💯
Same here. Can any explain what happened to this product?
Do you recommend that I buy a small cordless compressor and use air tools with it? I'm thinking about DeWalt's compressor, because I have most of DeWalt's 20V line up and I have Flex-volt batteries. Usually I just need a brad nailer for really small projects and I have DeWalt's fast charger available. I did buy a cordless nailer but it was lost during shipping, so I took this chance to look for a better solution for a nailer. Any Suggestions? Thanks!
Brad nailers would be fine....dont expect to use framing nailers or impact wrenches with it effectively. But low air consumption tools are 100% ok.
How about the new encased porter cable compressor?
Nice to see the review ryobi portable compressor?
Hot Damn! This means the Ryobi 18V version won't be far behind!
Chris Barth hopefully ryobi makes one so i don't have to buy this one
fieldboy674VGN 2 I hope, Ryobi would bring it to Germany too. Ryobis offering here is pretty poor compared to the lineup you get in the US.
I usually prefer Makita but Ryobi has some awesome gadgets, like the little compressor or the led lamps.
It's strange how Ryobi has so much variation between countries. I guess Ebay can solve that problem but its not ideal.
Why do you say that?
Lol!
Where is the Milwaukee M18 compressor?!? I'm getting sick of waiting. May have to get the Ridgid since I have some batteries.
There is an adapter to use Milwaukee batteries on them
do you think you would be able to make a shoot out on the low buck 1/2 impact wrench like ridgid vs harborfreight vs ryobi
I would love that
i heard dewalt might make a flexvolt compressor im waiting on that or either lower price on this
Pretty nice tool it being cordless
does Milwaukee have a cordless compressor as well?
Sounds like it runs quicker with two batteries and slower with the single smaller battery respectively. Is this the case?
Any idea how long it would last with just one 4.0 ah battery...
is one battery strong enough to fill tires...?
what happened to the second Milwaukee mykey review!?
You said you were going to compare torque wrenches from Harbor Freight, HD, Lowes, Snap on, etc.... what happened?
I do not make back-to-back videos on the same subject.....it gets boring. I have more coming up....stay tuned!
I made a video about Lowes & Home Depot Torque Wrenches....did you miss it? (Two of the 4 brands you originally mentioned)....
I must have. Thanks. I look forward to seeing more vids from you including the rest of those wrenches ;)
Here you go.....Home Depot -VS- Lowes .... th-cam.com/video/1P_lpERxjRo/w-d-xo.html
Best videos on YT .....can you do a vid on the Dewalt dch293. Sds plus 1 1/8"
