Thx mate, glad you enjoyed the video and it was helpful. We're all about showing people tracks to give you an idea if it's one you want to tackle. To do that some idea of where it is definitely helps!!
Thx mate, yeah amazing track, keep an eye out for a video from Krusty from A Guy and His Troopy, I know he was up this way recently and he'll do a great job on the track video. Might be a couple of months till it gets edited.
how is the depth of those water crossing ? I have the jeep wrangler rubicon with 2" lift and 34 tyres , but no snorkel yet. thinking of going there easter weekend.,
Well given it's easter weekend now you better hurry!!! Yeah they're not deep and there hasn't been a lot of rain. Lucky to be half way up your tyres so no snorkel will be fine. Have heard after a week or so of solid rain they can get up but right now you'd be fine. Enjoy, it's a great drive.
@@OffTheBeatenPathAus Thanks for replying quickly. Will be there this Sunday, planning to start the track by 9am from Tambo crossing - haunted stream track point.
@@ILovJeepNo worries, was supposed to be on the road so probably wouldn't have seen this but had some 12v issues so here I am.... Enjoy the drive that's where Dan and I started from it's an epic drive, take your time and enjoy it
Another great video thanks heaps Jason, this is definitely on my bucket list! How long did it take you altogether to drive from the Great Alpine Road to Dawson City? Cheers Ian
Hey Ian, thanks, was a great track and trip with Dan. Time wise hard to say as both Dan and I were stopping for filming but around 4 to 4.5hrs. You could do it quicker though if not filming like us.
Great video mate. I’m thinking of doing this drive soon but I don’t know what else is in the area. Can you suggest any other interesting tracks/destinations to do after getting to Dawson City? Thanks
We headed up to the King Cassilis Historic mining area after this. not that far few ways to get there and heaps of stuff to see if you like mining history.
What a beautiful drive that would have been. Really scenic and tranquil by the looks of it. I would have been stopping every 2 seconds for photos I reckon lol. Some of those crossing would make amazing photos with the tree ferns hanging over.
Yes its state forest through there, not a national park. I use a Hema HX2 for mapping so not sure what paper map it would be on sorry. Anything that covers the area south west of Omeo.
Just lovely. (I watched it on my new iMac). I wonder how long it took those large tree ferns to reach their size, quite a while I reckon. Great effort Jase, many thanks. Cheers, BobbyB.
Yeah they don't grow fast. It's like a rainforest feel for parts of the track. You could definitely take your time driving this one, start at the Alpine Hwy and camp at Dawson City.
Nice video Jase. I wrote a comment last night but is disappeared, I think bc I included a link to a picture to compare the track to when we did it in Dec 22. We had a VERY different experience, it was obvious it was before the track works. Huge drop offs on entry and exit to most of the crossings, one was deeper than the top of my vehicle. A lot of track building and winching. It took us 8 hours in total to go from Dawson City to the Alpine Rd.
Wow yeah I've seen a few videos from a couple of years ago and it was a whole different ballgame. Parks have done a great job, it's very driveable and quite enjoyable now.
Either would work, but I'm probably biased I think starting from the Eastern end like we did is a great way to drive it as the most scenic bit and all the crossings are in the second half, so the track just gets better and better as you drive it. Also lots of options for exiting from Dawson City.
I’ll say it a again, I reckon Dan is afraid of water crossings. Everything is flat out. This track needs to be driven slow, taking it all in. Such stunning country. Full day of filming is required. 💡 that gives me an idea. Lmao. Good episode Jase Cheers
You could definitely take a full day doing it mate. Really could. It's an amazing track and extremely scenic. I'd watch it so get out there and do it mate 🙂
from where we started at the eastern end to Dawson City, took us about 4 to 4.5 hours. But both of us were filming as we both run youtube channels o bit of stopping to film, change batteries, set up cameras etc. Probably save an hour on our time. That said it's a track that's worth taking time on.
Very informative on Track conditions great video. I’ve often wondered why it was called haunted stream. Google is wonderful The Haunted Stream was given its name following the suspected murder of a local identity, Sir Roger Tichborne, better known as ‘Ballarat Harry’. Thank you Jason, great stuff
Beautiful track, maybe we should be practicing better entry and exiting of these crossing to limit erosion damage. that is is dont rush in out of the crossing and practice allowing the water to drain off properly exit up out of the crossing. There is no rush right ? I would like to do this track and take the fishing rod with me…..
Lot of work done by parks to repair this track in the last year or so. Was pretty shallow when we did it, so we weren't pushing much water on the exits but absolutely that's the right thing to do.
Great journey. If I had a 4 wheel drive vehicle I'd definately trek that track.
Thx mate yeah it was pretty epic!!
This is on the list for next year.
Blue Rag, Crooked River and Billy Goats were just ticked off. Time for some Haunted Stream. It looks very fun.
Definitely worth it mate. An amazing track!
Great video, one of the few that shows you on a map where it is, with relevant information. Should be more like this .

Loved this vid. Definitely on my "to do" list. Just the wife and I 99% of the time and it looks like a great drive. Not too difficult.
A great drive and with the track condition as it is now it's not difficult at all. Highly recommend it!

Was back in May this year, just before seasonal closure.
