100 YEAR OLD NEVER TOLD BEFORE TRIBAL HISTORY - Bakngeb River Cave and Hidak Falls

  • YE TUDA, or Sabay Flang, is the oldest living resident of Sitio Bakngeb in Tboli, and was the first person to settle here. She does not know how exactly how old she is, but we know part of her story happened in 1915, when the River Cave opened up.
And so when I asked about the history of the place, I was surprised to see her dictating about two pages of A4, very slowly, to her grand-daughter. It took almost an hour. Little did I know that she had never told the story in full to anyone before, but after I asked about the history, she felt that she needed to keep the history alive and record it.
It is a story of how the Bakngeb River Cave was formed, how it opened up, and how this place was founded.
So we heard a piece of tribal history, until that day untold - which is something very, very overwhelming.
After that incredible morning, I went to the nearby Tuesday Market which has products from 4 neighbouring barangays, especially the awesome tribal coffee.
Then onwards to Hidak Falls, a place I went back in 2016, which now has a partly improved road. Part of it - we had to dig it so the pickup would pass!
Plenty of tribal dancing near water happened too - all in all a great exposition of the fantastic Tboli culture.

Been following you from your first vlog, even before that doing cameo roles in Kulas-a vlog. In such a short time, you have become a great vlogger. Now you have developed a niche -- a cultural vlogger. You are a great story teller. Salamat sa kanimo.

It just goes to show how "neglected" a lot of history is in the far-flung areas of the Philippines is. they were just glad that someone went there and got to hear their story.

    Kumander Anselm,
This is your calling. More so than than anything else you could ever do. The Fish ponds were an education for you. Put that behind you. Your showing the world about places unknown. You are documenting life of forgotten peoples. Most Filipino's know nothing of this. Yet you got the Tiboli Oracle to only tell her story to you. She knows her time is coming to closure but she must have seen into your soul. Now more than words written on a page; her story has been brought to life.
I think she had a twinkle in her eye for you. I would guess that she would of wanted to have been your Grandmother.
    Kudos for your documenting this.🙏🙏🙏

Very noteworthy, Kumander D. The traditional dances of the T'bolis, their friendly welcome, the clothes they wore, their good-naturedness in extending to you what they can offer, David's valuable assistance --- these are indeed things to be shown to the world. Raw documentary of a Philippine tribe. Kudos, KD!

Of all the foreign vloggers in the Philippines, you have really started to set yourself apart from the pack. Love this series. Incredible locations, perfect immersion into culture, great narration, and a good balance of Daot in a professional travel series. This deserves so much credit. Great job.
