I remember preparing these yams when I helped in the church kitchen. The ladies used milk in the recipe always delicious! But I didn't remember the exact recipe and here you are! Praise God!❤❤👸🏾😁👏🏾👏🏾💯
Thank U Ms. Donna. My name is Patricia. I commented on some of your previous recipes. U remind me of my mom cooking n the kitchen. She's from down south. Some part of Mississippi. Baby of 12 children. My Mom Loved cooking & baking. She cooked from scratch. Cakes, pies, peach cobbler etc. She would cook soul food Southern Style. When she would do her candy yams, she used the same ingredients, haven't tried the heavy cream n yams or baked the yams n the oven. My Mom always fixed it on top of the stove. But this year, I'm going to try your way with the oven. My Mom passed away 7yrs. ago, this pass January 30th. I miss her so much, especially this time of year. God Bless 🙏 U Ms. Donna.
My sister and I just love the two of you cooking in your kitchen. You remind me of our cooking. Thanks for sharing with us. The joy of the Lord shines through.
Thank you so much for sharing. They look beautiful. You are the ONLY lady/person I follow Bundt cake recipes. I think you are a fabulous cook and I’m going to try this recipe as best as I can. Thanks again.
I love that you use your oven a lot my mom use the stovetop but I like to start cooking a day or two early for thanksgiving to save time and those FEET OK 😭😭😭😭
I followed your recipe, just removed from oven, took a little taste and --- I LOVE it !! This is the recipe I've been looking for. My family is going to LOVE these because they good. Thank you ❤️
Just like Grandma made. Thanks so much for sharing. I dont have any of her recipes and Sometimes I learn a new way and Sometimes it ends up being alot like her stuff.
OMG 🤣😘I LOVE watching your videos for the recepies BUT My Favorite is when you say " Hey Errrrbody and tell folks to wash them Nasty Hands!!!! I crack up eeeerrrrrrTime! ❤️💕💖❣️
Thank you for sharing your family recipes. Makes my heart smile thinking of traditions going forward. Blessings to you and all those that came before. ❤
This is my favorite dish to cook for Thanksgiving. Wintertime I cook on a wood cook stove so right after breakfast I fix my sweet potatoes and place in casserole dish then place it on the edge of the burner plates. There they slowly cook all day long with no attention paid to them. Needless to say I've been binging on your videos! Thanks so much.
You’re so right. Holidays are a time when your loved ones are so present in your heart. My mom always did candied yams, but she did it on the stove top and caramelized them. Your recipe looks delicious and your tip on glazing the ham with that made my day. I’m going to try this. Between your apple pie pound cake and these yams, I’ll have to behave myself for a month. Lol. This will be the first Thanksgiving I will spend with my fiancé and you’ve made it extra special. Thank you Donna.
It's Easter morning here in Arizona, 2022, and I just tried this recipe! Ohhh Ms. Donna, I thank you so much for all your mom's recipes! Thank you for sharing with us, you are truly appreciated! Happy Easter from my family to yours. - Sharon
Oddly enough, its my dad and his mom (grand mammy) who were the best cooks EVER. I especially love it when my grand mammy humming her favorite song in the kitchen, because then you know them grubs is going to be BANGIN...😊🤗🤤🤤🤤🤤
Hi Donna I thank God for you and your husband I have tried for years to get my yams to look and taste like that , your mothers recipe took me back to my childhood when grandma would make sweet potatoes for the holidays thank you for sharing and God bless you
Thank you Ms. Donna for sharing your recipes and your home. I made candied yams for Thanksgiving using your tips - adding whipping cream - that made the difference! The dish was a hit and from now on I'll add whipping cream. Before I used evaporated milk; different texture and flavor. We like the light texture. Blessings and thank you again.
Looks so delicious 😋 I’m so ready for thanksgiving and I can’t wait to use my Moms recipes for she makes the yams and dressing. Like you said, “that’s how my Mom did it”. I’m so loving the fact that you take the time out to share your family recipes. Thank you and your family so very for all you do. Blessings 🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽
The same here. The holidays were mu mothers favorite. After my mom passed, the meals were left up to me. I always use to critic myself, because I wanted everything to taste just like hers. My sister told me to make it like I wanted to. It seems that just as I got use to putting my own spin on things, my best friend and only sibling passed this passed this August 2021. I feel so lost now. The holidays will not be the same.
I love love love candied yams 🍠 throw some miniature marshmallows on top it finishes it off just right 🤤🤤just a tip.. use brown sugar to give it that beautiful golden glow 🥰🥰🥰
I agree about the brown sugar. I believe it would make it even better. Also pineapple juice instead of water. Don't think you need cinnamon. Though okay to add along with the nutmeg though at lesser amounts. This is how I would make it. But I understand perfectly following a relative's recipe to the tee.
Hello Ms Donna I watched your video on your candied yams so I made some candied yams following your recipe only I didn’t have fresh yams I only had frozen cubed yams but I microwave them a little bit and added some flour and then I followed the rest of your recipe I must say the yams were great thank for your recipe.❤😊
Good morning to Mrs Donna and Dube number 1 and family and I am praying for you and your family and I love watching your channel because you are a great cook and a great baking 😀 😊 ☺️ 🙂 ❤️ 😄 😀 😊 ☺️ 🙂 ❤️ 😄
I understand both the ‘that doesn’t taste like grandma used to make” problem and the “trying to give someone a recipe but I’ve never used standard measurements for this recipe” issue. I one made my grandma’s chicken salad for some friends and one of my friends wanted the recipe. She was so confused at my instructions that she made me make another batch and sat there watching me and taking notes and measurements so she could make it herself later. Thank you for the recipe, though. My family loves yams, so this is going on the list for whenever we get together again (crazy schedules mean we do holidays whenever we get together. We had one year where we did Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving in January, because that was when everyone could get to the same place at the same time.)
Oh my. I grew up with candied sweets only having butter and brown sugar. I knew you were going to say drizzle over ham. Lol. I'm going to try this and add apples. 🌸
Congrats on 60k+, Donna!❣️🥰👋🏾👍🏾🎊🥰 I just made your candied Sweet Potatoes. They were BOMB❣️ My husband, mother, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. I will be making them again, for Thanksgiving. Thanks for sharing❣️
