I have a similar story to you’re sophomore boy where I slap myself every time I think about it because I’m a DIPSHIT!
I had the hots for this girl, we hung around the same friend group so we had talked a bit (casual acquaintances if you will). One day halfway through the semester, we were joking around, I made her laugh and we were getting on great, and she just kinda nonchalantly asked if I was gay (am a girl, am super gay, was also super in the closet) when I tell you I physically lagged, omg I was mortified but I managed to squeak out a “no.” She kinda bobbed her head and seemed disappointed. Come to find out she was gay and I’m fairly certain she was gonna ask me out. In hindsight, I would catch her staring and when I did try to talk with her it always seemed to brighten her up. I wanna choke myself every time I think of that because she was so... ugh, perfect. We’re so dumb when we’re young.
Edit: forgot to mention she moved away literally a couple months after this happened, also this was like 5 years ago so I’m pretty sure it’s too late now 😅
