Great review. I just got my figure today and I really appreciate your detailed review because I did not want to break anything. I had the original release a while ago but sadly had to sell it. I missed that figure. I was content with a re-release but Figma gave us an updated figure and I definitely have no complaints. Thanks again.
Thanks so much! Yeah I'm used to the fragility of SH Figuarts and some older Figma, but this one definitely feels more robust than those. Unsure if it's new manufacturing/materials, or just something special they did for this release, but I love it either way!
I'd like to see a direct, in hand size comparison between this new Guyver figma and 2014 figma Guyver. Like you did with the other figures at the end. But, I still really appreciate the size comparisons here! I feel like I've come to the conclusion where I just can't tell how figures measure up to each other in height, bulk, scale, proportions. When they're still in the package. Mafex Hush Superman looks like his head might be too small in scale compared to Marvel Legends. But, I could be wrong. I need to check reviews on that one, now. For comparisons. I haven't unboxed either Guyver, or Samus (Dread), yet. So, maybe in box changes the perspective? Because, I see that the Guyver you're showing is taller and slightly bigger than Samus (Dread). It looks like it kind of works well next to Marvel Legends. Which is a relief. I'm a goof that likes to crossover franchises. I'm going to set up my Guyver slicing the arm off a geiger alien. (Because, I snapped it off trying to straighten the arm. But, I learned then, that it was never meant to completely straighten.😮💨) (That will be another project, trying to figure out how to add the effect of the alien's acidic blood spilling.) But, what's weird for me is, eyeing them through their plastic windows, Samus appears taller and much bulkier than the new Guyver. For some reason I'm picturing the old figma Guyver as being taller than this new one, as well.🤔 So, I feel all discombobulated, here. I'll be doing a big project on my displays mid April and re-arranging stuff. So, I hope I remember to dig out the 2014 one to compare.
I think part of what makes it difficult is that companies are changing their scale over time as well. Todays Marvel Legends are taller than the ones release before 2015. SH Figuarts are getting taller as well but even that's a mixed bag since I know that depending on the series they'll keep the previous scale. I'd love to see your displays! If you have an IG then please feel free to tag me in any toy photos!
@@ComicallyToysI assume each copy of the figure is 100% identical. Somebody compared the new guyver 1 to Marvel Legends. And it looks like it fits as high scholar with the guyver armor standing next to iron man.
I received mine last month…best 6” scale Guyver 1 I own…just wish they made the hips a bit better so he can do full splits like the previous Figma version . I wish they would make the extended blades in a clear or transparent blade style like the anime as new included accessories
Thanks for confirming! It's been so long since I read and watched it that I just couldn't remember. I really hope they finish the story one day! Then I'll go back and reread the whole thing.
@ComicallyToys he hasn't touched it since 2016, so don't hold your breath. The story was just getting interesting too with a new player who I think is one of the creators themselves
@@SolarinDay Yeah I read something about the author getting depressed or something like that and finding some other work to do and has just been doing that since the hiatus started.
@@SolarinDay I imported the entire manga run from Japan. So, I can at least see the panels. But, i can't read Japanese so I'm missing out a lot of context. LOL
@Psychof1st so you paid for the manga, right? Look for scanlations then, you can do it guilt free as you've given money to the creator. Though I must warn you, a few chapters are missing pages with key plot details.
@@ComicallyToysI don't like the visible cut in the sculpt. Wish they had just made 2 complete solid heads. Or, hid the cut better in a natural seam line. The sculpt itself isn't too off, IMO. This one and the old one have noticeable differences all over the body here and there. But, I'm pretty sure they're both very accurate. Just to different images they used as reference. The head may or may not be the same case. But, I think the creator of Guyver changed his art over time. Or, maybe there were different artists working to complete the issues.
@@Psychof1st I really wish I did have the previous release to compare against, but I can't justify the price considering what I paid for this one! I wouldn't be surprised if it changed a little over time. I think that happens with a ton of long running manga. One of my absolute favorite manga of all time(but isn't especially popular) has a major art evolution over time and looks amazing by the end. Flame of Recca needs a resurgence!
@@ComicallyToys I found another channel that compared the two sizes. And the new one is bigger than the old. Looking through their box window I thought the new one looked smaller. I hope the packaging just makes it hard to tell. The new one shown in that video looked like workable size against Marvel legends. So, I don't think there is such a thing as a release coming at different scales at random. They should be consistent, right? The oldest Bio Fighter Collection was the biggest. Looks even too big for any 1/12 scale line. The first issue/appearance of the guyver 1 armor and 2nd appearance were the same in concept. But, the various shapes and proportions of the guyver 1 head/facial features were noticeably different. The sensor orbs were still near the top. But, the top of the head looked a bit straighter and flatter than the rounder shape the head had from the 2nd time on. So, I wouldn't be surprised if at some point we get a Guyver 1 1st appearance figma. Because, 2014 and 2024 figma guyvers look like they're both going off of different reference images from later in the series. Guyver 2 1st appearance was just a copy of guyver 1. (It might have still had both breathing things on one side of his face.) But, a flash back ret-conned guyver 2's face armor to be different than guyver 1. As far as over time, the changes are very subtle. They get more refined. And some panels look less refined. Like rushing versus perfectionism. Or, like different artists worked on different panels/issues.

Excellent review. Thank you. I've just ordered mine at regular price. Can't wait to add this figure to my sci-fi japanese armors figures.
Thanks! I'm glad you were able to pay regular price! What other figures do you have as part of your sci-fi Japanese armors figures?

The blades in transparent would be awesome!
Great review! Is this the largest Guyver figure available?
Thank you! So it's not the largest Guyver that has been made, but those are no longer in production and will be very expensive on the aftermarket.
