  • Before famed board game designer Uwe Rosenberg brought us modern classics like Agricola, Patchwork, and Caverna, he designed this clever little trading card game that's great for players of all ages. It's easy to learn, but here's an instructional video anyway!

    Easily the best demonstration and explaination of Bohnanza. Well thought out and the order of explaination lines up with play order. Great work

    Great video! When reminding players of the "take 3 cards and put them at the end of your hand" I often shorthand it to "take 3 to the rear", which usually results in raised eyebrows. I shan't explain why...

    Also, the 3rd bean field rule seems to have been removed from the more recent printings of the game. I read on BGG that it's because it's not often a beneficial play to pay for a third field and, to avoid misleading players, it was removed.

      That’s interesting! i did come to that conclusion on my own after playing the game many times. Whenever i’d see an opponent buying a third field, i’d get all secretly smug.

    • @Elucidarian
      @Elucidarian 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mine is old enough to include the 3rd field rule, but I only bring it up when teaching the game if someone starts getting further ahead of everyone else, having the leeway to splurge on some added flexibility. It's really only beneficial with a strong, early lead.

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Elucidarian Yeah! There's also the "throw 5 or 6 excess coin cards into the garbage" rule. Use it early, use it often.

    This was not the first version of this game Rosenberg published. 999 Games in the Netherlands published in 1997 a game called Landlevenspel, by Uwe Rosenberg. It is about growing plants and animals, like sheep and cows. The art work is way different and it comes with personal play boards. But the game plays EXACTLY the same.

    Funny enough the german version of the word "Bohnanza" is the same as "Bonanza", whereas "Beananza" would me a bit exotic, but would still be catchy. Anyways we are now trying to learn the game, so thanks for the video :)

    Yes. Great "How to play" video. I am about to start playing with the kids. But I have one rule question. During trading, what happens if several wants/can trade with you at the same time? Is there any rule that you need to start with someone first? If you have to choose, it could be a kingmaking-situation, could it not?

    3-player games always begin with the 3rd bean field. 7:21

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on which version you're playing. i've read two different threads on the subject. One of them says that in more recent versions, everyone gets a 3rd bean field, regardless of player count. In another thread, apparently no one does, and the 3rd bean field has been cut from the game (?)

  • @nixtoshi
    @nixtoshi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In the two player game dynamic where you discard a card and form 3 piles from the deck, can you trade and/or play those cards as well during the trading phase before the end of the turn?

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can plant the cards you turn up in the draw pile and/or the discard pile as the third step in your turn (just before drawing 2 new cards into your hand to end your turn), selling beans where needed to make room in your fields. Any cards you leave in that draw pile (but not the discard pile) are up for grabs by your opponent in Step 1 of your opponent's turn.

    If you have 3 garden beans do you have to immediately harvest or can you add more just to have better space

    • @NightsAroundaTable

      You can plant as many of the same type of bean in the row as you like, and try to harvest when it gives you the most benefit!

    [/s] The worst thing about this video is the direction you fan your hand of cards. I could barely stand to look at it. I wondered what kind of maniac you really are, until I had a realization, and went to back to view a couple of your unboxing videos. Sure enough: You hold that craft knife in your left hand. You're left-handed and it never mattered until now! I guess, this is minor payback for all the times you've had to endure something that was designed or presented for a right-handed audience. That's fair. And I couldn't hold it against you, anyway because southpaws are perfectly acceptable members of society. Even my dad is one of your kind, er, I mean, you people, or, um, HEY, look over there -- I think that's Ned Flanders!
